How do you shave?

What method do you use for shaving, goes for ladies too :D.

(Edit: Hey mods, I tried adding a poll right after making this post but it said I took to long. Can I still add the poll?)

Re: How do you shave?

I shave in two passes. The 1st pass is with the grain and the 2nd pass is against the grain. I apply pre shave oil, shaving cream using a badger brush, and shave with a Mach3. Follow up with some after shave balm.

lots of shaving cream and a gilette fusion.

Gillette Fusion, in the shower, usually no shave cream.

2-blade bic "sensitive" disposable with Neutrogena for Men shave cream, in the shower. :tu

Re: How do you shave?

I use the Mach 3 Turbo with shaving gel on my face daily and same razor and no gel every other day on my head in the shower. I replace the blade once a week and use no after shave or cologne.

Re: How do you shave?

Use a gilette fusion in the shower. I use head shed first to exfoliate my head and face. use head slick to shave with - great stuff. Shave my head first, then my face. Usually every other day or so. Sometimes, I am scruffy for a few days.

I highly recommend that shave cream. I can use a blade for a month or more now - used to get only 2-3 shaves out of each. That is shaving my head and face, btw.

I shave with a traditional DE (Double edged) razor. In combination with a good lather, and proper pre-shave ritual this is hands down the best way to shave, for some people. For others this will cause irritation regardless of your technique and number of passes. For those people I would suggest simply using a beard trimmer to get a stubbled look without the irritation.

Good places to start if you wanna learn more about traditional wetshaving are:

Re: How do you shave?

Well, my first go 'round, I use a Grizzly bear. But they give ya some serious razor burn if you shave too close, so to get the scraggly bits I usually try a flesh-eating virus. Yep, smooth as a baby's bottom. :D

Re: How do you shave?

Has anyone ever tried to dry their blade after shaving with a hair dryer or something? I have heard from a few people that this prolongs the life of your razor by quite a bit (this is regarding normal Gillette etc. type razors)

Re: How do you shave?

The silly five blade gillette, though I do have an electric for emergencies. Which have been few and far between cause I just let my beard grow out lol.

Re: How do you shave?

I don't shave, it takes too much time. And by the time I have to (wedding or getting facial hair caught in car doors) I need some clippers and then a 3 blade Gillette. :tu

LMAO.... :D

I use a triple blade... used to use the expensive mach 3 ones but they keep jacking the price up so I went to cheaper ones...

How in God's name do you get a hairdryer to remove facial hair?
:D

Re: How do you shave?

Due to a lack of testosterone (or whatever) I only have to do it once every week so I use a cheap Fusion razor. However, if I'm feeling really cheap, sandpaper tends to do the trick.

Same way without the pre-shave stuff. Love my DE razor, will never ever go back to a multi-blade battery powered new razor. Never had better shaves.

In the shower.

Schick Quatro

Aveeno lotion or the generic drugstore brand. It's been years since I have used anything like shaving cream/gel and would never go back. The lotion works ten times better.

I have the Merkur Classic as well.
Nivea or Prorazo cream (I have some Body Shop stuff to try too)
Low end badger brush
Nutrogena Aftershave balm.

Re: How do you shave?

Cheap Braun electric. Since I have a Fred Flintstone beard I have to shave before I shower then splash on some lotion when I get out and shave again. I still end up with 5 o'clock shadow by about 11AM. If I try to use a blade it just gets hung up in my stubble and rips me up. I get no lovin' unless my face is smooth so I guess it's all worth it.

Re: How do you shave?

Mach 3 (I received in the mail on my 18th birthday...that and a post card from Playboy...the joys of turning 18 here) with shaving cream in the shower.

Re: How do you shave?

Gillette Fusion, fresh out of the shower, with hot water. I shave 2-3 times per week (don't mind a little stubble), blades seem to last forever. Can't remember the last time I changed the blade actually.

smokeyscotch 10-21-2008 10:48 AM

Re: How do you shave?

I cleanse with Cetafil Daily Cleanser, Nice helping of Edge for sensitive, One stroke with grain, one against with a Mach3. Followup with a nice astringent. My wife has trained me to "man shave", but I won't go there. I know, TMI. :ss

tsolomon 10-21-2008 10:55 AM

Re: How do you shave?

After a shower with Edge shaving gel and an old Mach 3 razor.

Seanohue 10-21-2008 10:56 AM

Re: How do you shave?

Nivea shave gel, Mach 3, and some aftershave lotion that I can't remember. The bottle is orange though. Anyone else have that one spot on their neck that you tear the hell out of? Can't figure out how to keep it from happening, other than changing the blade everyday.

Ditto. I'll trim with the electric if I absolutely need to. I shaved with a blade for the first time in about a year two weeks ago. It was weird.

No, it depends on what I'm shaving. :ss

Re: How do you shave?

I use a throwaway Gillette and whatever shaving cream I have. I don't shave on Fridays or weekends unless I "have to". I had a full beard for years but the red hair became whiter and whiter and I looked like crap so I shaved it off....now I'm a stud muffin. :ze

A helmet full of cold water and a bowie knife!

Actually a Gillette Sensor Excell. I know the fusion is the next big thing, but I'm not very good with change.

Re: How do you shave?

I was gifted a 4-blade battery-vibrating wunderazor and enough blades to last two years (this was about two years ago). I used that with Mary Kay for-men shaving cream and was pretty happy with it.

I recently switched to working out in a gym in the evening, so I'd shower post-workout instead of in the morning. Since making that switch my wife bought me a three-round-head electric razor and I'm getting used to it. Makes the morning routine much faster!

When I'm staying in the barracks during a WWII reenactment I used a 1940's style double-blade razor, brush, cup, etc.

All work fine for me. My skin is made out of the same stuff they make golf balls out of...

Re: How do you shave?

Rarely.

Seriously, the best shave I can get at home is with the Merkur safety razor but even that leaves tons of ingrown hairs. I'm just going to get a beard trimmer.
