Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I didn't see a thread for this. Movie opens Wednesday. I've got my tickets already for Wednesday night. Anyone else planning to see it this week?
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
A friend on mine wants me to go with him, but I am leery or attending a summer blockbuster with youth appeal in the first few weeks of release. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to hear the soundtrack.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Honestly, I'll go see it on Wednesday, and probably go see it again once it opens at the IMAX - think they are opening a week, maybe two later, because of Transformers. So I'm not so concerned with the noise level.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Being that it is my favorite book of the series, I would love to go see it, but the Wifey working nights, chances of me finding a sitter to watch the boy, looks like I'll be waiting for the DVD again :c
I just hope that it doesn't detract from the book too much |
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I'll be seeing it wednesday around 7 I imagine.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Likely next Tuesday at the reduced rate showings.

Why did they have to release this the week of my wedding.
This just pisses me off to no end... :( |
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I'll be seeing it this weekend.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I have been feeling like being a terrible person and going wed night and yelling the ending =( I am still bitter that the end of the book was ruined for me because I wasn't able to read it right after it came out.
Good thing I don't really feel like getting arrested and wont actually do this |
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I was set on seeing it tomorrow, but then I read that the IMAX version opens at my local on the 29th. So I will probably wait for that. There is no damn way I'm giving that thieving, over priced theater more than one ticket's worth of money (probably :)). Being a huge Potter fan, I don't know if I can wait another 2 weeks to see it.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
saw it last night at special screening, very good, if you read the books you'll notice some big parts missing.

The more I think about it, the more I think I will see it today after work. HBP is probably my favorite book with OOP being a close second. |
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Well, I saw HBP after work yesterday. Theater wasn't too crowded, so that was good.
Overall, I would say a great movie. I think they missed the mark on many things, but it's the movie, not the book. Did anyone else go and see it. |
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I saw it last night. It was good, but I wouldn't say it was great. It certainly doesn't surpass Azkaban as my favorite of the movies. Some bits were funny, but it seems more like filler, tbh. I dunno. Maybe I will read the book again and then go see it on IMAX?
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I saw it last night as well. I wasn't impressed this time around. It was long and it just seemed like it never got to the point.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I definitely felt like it lacked the momentum and urgency that I got from the book.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
That one part in the movie made me and everyone else in the theater jump like hell though! You know what I'm talking about.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I'm surprised so many people here liked HBP (novel) as much as they did. It wasn't bad, but the last two books of the series felt rushed, as if Rowling were put on a deadline by the publishers.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I did sense urgency, but I took it as time was running out for Harry, just 2 years left of school and so many H*****xes to find. The feeling I got was the ****'s hitting the fan, and things are in motion that can't stop. To me it seemed like the movie didn't convey that at all. To me HBP was the magic world in chaos, but this was seriously underplayed in the flick.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
yea I didnt get any sense of urgency or anything in the HBP film as I had in the other films. I haven't read the novels, but I guess I need too.
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I feel like Rowling got too big for an editor, and that's translating even worse to film than it did for the books. The film wouldn't make much sense if you hadn't read the books, and even so, they spent too much time on fan service, and not enough time on moving the story along. I was extremely disappointed. There were many good moments tho, and my kids, who have memorized the books, enjoyed it.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I wasn't impressed...:( it def was not my fav of all the movies...but then again it wasn't my fav out of all the books either..I'm still a huge fan of the Tri-Wizard cup.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I've struggled watching the last couple of HP movies...I might see it in the theater if the wife's interested in going. Otherwise, I'll have pick it up on BR when it's released to keep the collection going.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
This movie didn't do the book justice. What happened to the private sessions between Harry and Snape? Why was this film called the Half-Blood Prince if it didn't focus on it at all?
|
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I have seen it and It was overall good. You can tell when the writers strike happened because the "feel" of the movie changes about half way through when they switched writers. But other than that great movie.
Ending could have been better though. :ss |

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
After reading all the reviews, I realized I forgot everything in the book. When did that come out? 5 years ago? Started re-reading the book tonight. Cant wait to see the movie.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I saw it on Wednesday and again on Friday. I will focus on the first veiw more than the second because there was a drunk bastard talking during hte whole film until we got him and his family kicked out near the end.
Overall I liked this movie and felt that it flowed from the fifth film into the sixth was excellent. I guess it helped to have the same director and all. The movie will never be the same as the books since there is simply too much information to cover. I thought they did a good job for the most part, even with the additional scenes they imported. I think the end was a bit rushed, particularly dealing with Harry budding relationship with Ginny and the issue with LV history & horcruxes, but I think the lead up to Movie 7 is good. There were some small parts I miss (again thanks to the ahole seated behind me), but might opt to go see it in IMax as well. |

All in all, I was pleased with the movie as I long ago resigned myself to the fact that they'll never be able to fit an entire book in one movie. (Though I am encouraged because I've heard rumors they're doing Deathly Hallows as two movies. That *MIGHT* allow them to fit everything in.) It might have been the movie or maybe just a great night at the drive-in (I saw 4 shooting stars during the movie), but I thoroughly enjoyed this episode of Harry Potter and may even go back to see it again. |

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I liked the movie, I just wish Snipe and Harry had a real battle.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Heather and I went to see it today! My first time!!!
I really liked it!!! BTW Darrell - There is a reason Snape and Harry don't duke it out!!! |
Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Saw it on by birthday a few days ago. Have been reading those books since I was in 4th grade haha. But I thought it was an excellent movie, its not the book but they definitely did the best with what they had. The horcrux scene was fantastic, i was crawling in my seat when they appeared at the cave entrance, all in all definitely worth the money.
