The Best 007

Watching a mini 007 marathon on USA Netwrok today and decided we needed to definitively answer this question:

Who is/was the best 007?

Here's mine:

My namesake. Thank goodness my Mom had a thing for him or Lord only knows what name I would've ended up with!:r

Re: The Best 007

Sean is my favorite, but Daniel Craig comes off a little closer to how I perceived Bond being in the books.

I agree. He is #2 on my list. A meaner, leaner Bond.

I would say Connery is my favorite.

I never read the books, but I really like the "grittiness" Craig brings to the role. Almost more believable.

Sean Connery is the best 007 IMHO.

Yeah, I would make fun of you if you were named Lazenby... and rightly so. ;)

My thoughts exactly, James.

Re: The Best 007

I really like Craig. Connery is classic, of course, but his Bond is much more detached. Craig is much more committed to the role, IMO. Or maybe I'm just jaded by the fact that Connery is the classic "Bond". Who knows. My vote goes to Craig though.

I think that once Craig gets a few more under his belt, he'll edge our Connery on my list. Yet I am curious - why no mention of Barry Nelson, Peter Sellers, or Woody Allen in your questionnaire?

Re: The Best 007

Connery hands down. I wish we could have had Connery as Bond now with present day special effects and shooting. It would have made him even better.

Craig does portray the novel Bond better then any other Bond, but he will have to become a lot more sinister to match the novel.

Forgot about Barry Nelson (actually think I confused hime with gene barry) and Woody et al go with Mr. Niven in the spoof Royale.:tu

Sean Connery for me, I'm a die hard JB fan. Roger Moore in 2nd.

I like Daniel Craig but am a little disappointed he said it was time for Bond to do a gay scene. Please realize I have NOTHING against homosexuality -- but James Bond isn't gay. :2

Agreed! I really liked Pierce Brosnan... he would be my second choice. :ss

Sean Connery is the classic, Daniel Craig more macho, but my favorite was not on the list!

I should have just listed Casino Royale spoof et al as the last choice!

Re: The Best 007

Was always a close one between Connery and Moore for me with a slight edge to Moore but after the last two Craig could very easily become my favorite if they continue to make them like that.

comparing Moore to Connery is like comparing Adam West to Christian Bale.

Refrain from using the words "dog" and "Bea Arthur" in the same sentence.

Lazenby was the first "other" Bond. I think he gets a bad rap b/c of this. I guess I'll be the only one to vote for him. I like all the Bonds except for Dalton. Dalton friggin' sucked!

Sean Connery hands down the best.

Daniel Craig though is a very close second.

I grew up in the Moore era, to me he will always be Bond even though there are some superior performances by other actors.

Re: The Best 007

My biggest problem with the Moore flicks is their almost-cartoonish devotion to gadgets and $#!+, though I lay this mainly at the feet of Cubby Broccoli. To me the "demise" of the Bond flicks started with To Russia With Love, with that tricked-out briefcase Connery had. That was fine, but it was just the first symptom of a disease. OK, the Aston-Martin in Goldfinger was unrealistic, but cool, and the scene with the laser was much the same. Then with Thunderball we had the yacht that split in two, and the bad guy with the eyeball-transplant. WTF? From there it just got worse. A submarine Lambo? Jaws in space? An invisible Beemer? Gimme a freakin' break here. True, I enjoyed all the movies, but you must admit they got a bit silly. That's why I'm glad Babs Broccoli has seemed to bring Bond back to his roots with Craig. Just :2.
