An incredibly sad day...

Yesterday, I had to put my wonderful friend, Roo, to sleep. She had a huge tumor in her mouth that went all the way to the back, and she could no longer eat. I had no idea that it was a tumor and was taking her in, thinking she had an abcessed tooth. They sedated her and found it. We didn't have her wake up because it would be just too cruel. Bill and I went to say our goodbyes. It's just breaking my heart typing this. Those of you who were at earlier SoCal herfs would remember her. She will be greatly missed and there is a huge hole in my heart today...:(

RIP Roo

Sorry for the loss. Animal or not, they are members of the family that leave a void when these things occur.

Sorry for you loss.
Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thoughts and prayers.

My 14 year old border collie dropped yesterday in the park and I thought it was the end. He is limping around and not himself today and I fear the worst is close.

Well said, Al.

We have been through this as well... just last August.

It hurts so much because we love so much. For me the pain of loss was worth enduring for the love I received from our faithful pet. I hope it will be the same for you.

Blessings on you and your family.

Thanks for all the thoughts and well wishes. I was so lucky to have had her. If you ask anyone who got to meet her, they will tell you how sweet and gentle she was. Last night I smoked a Club Epicure in her memory. I'm lucky because I have two more dogs whom I also adore, but Roo had a special place in my life. I'm just glad the other dogs have each other as it would have been more difficult having just one when Roo passed.

Thanks,

Jenny and Bill

Re: An incredibly sad day...

Brutally hard! But, you did the right thing, and I'm sure she thanks you for it! Remember the happy times, the wonderful life you gave her, and the wonderful times she gave you. God Bless you in your time of mourning!

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes,
please, let me go.

Take me where, to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Those who have had pets and still do,,,,,we understand your pain and loss at this time. There is nothing like a pet that you adore and how they give you unconditional love and affection,,,certainly one of the best gifts this side of life. As much as you are hurting right now imagine not having the gift of that affection that was given freely to you and your family. Warmest thoughts to you at this time.
