The most reliable lighter
My current lighter is somewhat unreliable. I am looking to buy a new one. What is the most reliable lighter on the market for under 50.00?
Thanks |
Re: The most reliable lighter
Ronson Jetlite - $3 at WalMart or CVS :tu

Re: The most reliable lighter
Anything by Xikar. They come with a lifetime guarantee which is what sold me on them.

Re: The most reliable lighter
My go to is the Ronson Jet-Lite, but my "Bling" lighter is a Vector triple torch. Never fails!:tu

Re: The most reliable lighter
st dupont xtend never fails to light on the first click as long as use vector five times refined!

Re: The most reliable lighter
For me, has to be the pb-207. Most reliable, no frills lighter that will get your cigar lit no matter what the conditions

Though I still stand by my handful of Ronson's, my Zippo Blu is my go-to... I love it, and have never had an issue with it.

Re: The most reliable lighter
For the money I don't know how you can beat a Ronson. Mine have worked perfectly. Never had a chance to try the Blazer.
Table lighter is a Vector Tundra. Fantastic lighter. |
Re: The most reliable lighter
My first PB-207 Blazer lasted 4 years before dying...and each fill lights a couple hundred cigars. I am on my second one now, and will always have one around. :2

Re: The most reliable lighter
Xikar would be the best bet, plenty of styles $50.00 and under. Can't beat the lifetime warranty and the free leather case they send you when you register the lighter at their web site.

Re: The most reliable lighter
I have a huge collection of lighters floating around.
Several expensive lighters like my ST Dupont, Davidoff, Montecristo (ST knockoff), and a couple Porsche Designs that I carry when I want to flash some style. Several daily use lighters like my PB-207, my Colibri Reload (absolutely love this lighter, a year and a half, never had a problem with it), two random Xikars (have no idea where they even came from), and a beat up old Porsche PD4 that has seen better days. All of which are day to day use lighters that I pick up and carry around. Then I have dozens of Ronson's scattered around me. Couple in my truck, tackle boxes, desk, by my keys, couple at work, one right now that I'm modifying on my porch, and a ton of new ones I have stashed somewhere that I can't find.... I'd say get yourself a dozen Ronson's to start with, then maybe graduate into a Blazer or Xikar, then something nicer. Unless you spend a lot of time in company that you really want to impress an image upon, avoid dropping a wad on something really expensive because you'll probably end up managing to scratch your "scratch proof" ST lighter and paying a small fortune to get it repaired! (story for another day...and this is why I keep my good lighters only for use on classy occasions and not during the yard work). |
Re: The most reliable lighter
I don't own an expensive lighter. I don't see any need to. I have three of those "smiley face' lighters. I think they are Xikar. The smiley face is long since worn off but these lighters have never failed me.
I also bought a store display of 12 Jet Lites off of eBay for about $20. I have given about half of them away and the other half are buried in the closet. |
Re: The most reliable lighter
bought 10 ronsons, usually if i grab two one will work fine. a good lighter to have around, like others have said, one that you dont mind giving away to a stranger in need of a light

I expect an occasional dud to surface. One I had wouldn't shut off when I let the trigger go, one had a switch go. Total investment in duds, 5.97. Total investment in Jetlites...about 50 bucks. I have a dozen and a half left. They are just great lil lighters for a very low cost. The only reason I mention the duds is that just as many people have horror stories about their 75 dollar lighter inexplicably breaking, or having trouble with the repair/replace process. I am just saying, certis parabus, go with the Jet-Lite. |
Re: The most reliable lighter
My best bang for the buck lighters are the Tiger brand. I get 3-4 of their dual torch lighters from ebay for around 5-7 bucks each and keep them everywhere I need a lighter. I have one that has lasted 4 years with no problems.

You can also go to dealextreme.com and pick up any of the torch lighter that looks similar to the Blazer's. You can usually find them for $2 and free shipping. The Ronson's I have had have always crapped out. I have had the torch one like MCS describes for over a year now, and I have dropped it multiple times and mistreated it, and it still works like a charm. |
Re: The most reliable lighter
I've got a 3 torch Nibo that my mother gave me a couple years ago, and 4 Ronson Jet Lites. So far, knock on wood, they all work perfectly.

Ha ha ha ha :r I'm a sucker for gadgets. So far, this one has worked flawlessly. I only use triple refined fuel, or better, and it works like a champ. :D |
Re: The most reliable lighter
The most reliable lighters I've ever used are the PB-207s. I'm on my second one now. Lost my first a few years ago. They always work and they'll light a few boxes of cigars before they need to be refilled.
I also have a few dozen other lights lying around, some more expensive, some less expensive. The ones from dealextreme are great for leaving places you're likely to smoke. I keep them in my office, briefcase, golf bag, car, etc. The expensive ones are nice if you don't want to carry a welding torch in your suit pocket. I have one of the Ronsons, too, but don't use it often because I never know how much fuel is in it. I like lighters with clear bodies so that I can see EXACTLY how much fuel is left. |
Re: The most reliable lighter
PB - 207. (Clear) :tu

Re: The most reliable lighter
The PB-207 is my everyday lighter and it works perfectly and lights a lot of cigars between fuel tank refills. The Ronson Jetlite is my other go to lighter - it's in my locker at the B&M - works like a charm.

Re: The most reliable lighter
Get the PB-207 Blazer. Great lighter, very reliable, massive tank for butane. It's well under your budget too. With the money you save you can pick up a few Ronson's if you want to.
I also suggest the clear Blazer. Always know your butane level that way.:tu |

Like many others around here, I also recommend the Blazer PB-207. I bought this lighter over a year ago, and it has worked perfectly for me every time.

Re: The most reliable lighter
Ronson gets my vote as well. When I first learned of them I use to be one of those guys who would pay $100 plus for a "good" lighter and probably went thru at least $1000 plus. When I got my first Ronson 6 months ago I thought that this thing looks good, lights great, takes a recharge wonderfully with 3x fuel and lights first time every time. Next time I went back to the store I bought a dozen of them and am still using the first one I bought but if I lose it or it stops working,,,BFD. As far as I am concerned I have enough lighters to last me the rest of my life and for $36,,,where do you find a better deal?
