Recommendations on a box purchase...
So, I have a friend commissioning as a 2Lt in the Army in a few weeks. I want to pick up a box of cigars for all of the guests attending his commissioning after-party. There are a handful of us that enjoy cigars regularly, and a few more that will probably smoke but couldn't care less whether it was a Cremosa or a PSD4. Anyway, I'm looking for an affordable but enjoyable box that will cater to a variety of different smokers. Any recommendations? I was thinkin CAO Brazilia (but thats on the higher end of what I'd like to spend). Maybe Sancho Panza Double Maduros? I've never had one but I hear they're pretty good for a cheap smoke. Any recommendations are welcome, I realize that a Maddie might be a little too much for any rookie that decides to smoke for the first time, so I'm very open minded.

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Any Oliva. Maybe O or G natural.
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Hmmm, I concur on the Oliva G. Very inexpensive, very tasty, and mild enough to let a few first timers get a shot at a good cigar.
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
The Olivias would certainly fit the bill... but so would those Sancho Panzas and they sure aren't expensive.

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Any idea on an amount so the suggestions can be tailored to get the most 'bang for the buck'?
edit... I just saw the few weeks stipulation..... that may put a damper on a "for sure" CC purchase arrival. |

Another vote for the Oliva Serie G Cameroon. :tu

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I concur with the O or G. Also would suggest the ~eccj~ for about $85 or a Lot 23 for the lower end for about $55. :tu

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Oliva O maduro (just had one and it was excellent) or some Sancho Panza Double Maduros.
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I agree with the Oliva Seris G camaroon.....or maybe an H. Upmann vintage camaroon
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I just picked up a box of Perdomo Reserve Limited Oscuro, and they are really tasty. I think they would would fit the bill with a price tag of 59.95 (after the CI free shipping code) as well as satisfy new and old smokers alike.
Good luck, and tell your friend Thank You for his service! :tu |

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Another vote for Oliva G's.
While I agree that the Padron X000 series are great smokes I think the Olivas are a little more accessible to the novice smoker taste-wise. |
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Padron 2000 Maddy or Natural always come to mind...just a great smoke for a good price.

Also, I don't think the SPDM is an overpowering maduro. It's actually on the medium side, but pleasantly flavorful. Good luck with whatever you do, and congrats to your soon to be commissioned buddy. Hoo-rah! :usa By "SW Virginia" do you mean either the VT or Radford ROTC programs? My son's in RU AROTC. |
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I definately agree with the Oliva Series G recommendations.
Also, Punch Elites are very affordable and extremely flavorful in the Maduro variety. If you have a bunch of guys showing up, maybe a box of the Punch Rothschilds (also in Maduro). |

Sancho Panza Double Maduros, You can find a box for about 40 bucks. :dr

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I agree with Oliva Gs or Padron 2000!
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Just remembered that the new Oliva Conn. Reserve would be great also. A nice mild full flavored smoke that anyone should like.
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
Great suggestions here. I would also recommend the RyJ Habana Reserve. Mild, and pretty inexpensive with 27 in a box.
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
If you want something really special for a great price I recommend the 601 Habano Oscuro La Punta box of 20 for $88.20 at Lilbrown. This is a fantastic smoke for a great price.

Anyway, I digress. Thanks for the responses. I'm leaning Oliva G, but I'll look into all of the choices listed. Perdomos, Padrons, and Upmanns are particularly intriguing. I'm leaning away from the SPDMs just because I haven't had one personally. I'd like to be able to vouch for whatever I buy. |
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I think you can't go wrong with any of the Padron x000s. Great value cigars. :tu
|
Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I'd say go with the Padron Thousand Series....cant argue with a Padron!

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
I love the Oliva Connecticuts, and I just bought a 5-pack of Sancho Panza Double Maduros to try because of the recommendations on this board. I smoked my first one last night and I loved it...creamy, rich, smooth, not too mild or too strong...just great !! Thanks for the opinions ! I've just ordered a box of them for a great price.

Re: Recommendations on a box purchase...
My stand by box for this type of scenario is Fuente 8-5-8 Maduros. Tasty enough that anyone will enjoy them, inexpensive enough that if the "I'll try one" crowd pitches them you won't cry about it.
