What is it About Davidoff?

I never understood the fascination with them. Had one a long time ago, probably before I understood what a "good cigar" was but I dont remember it being that memorable.

Tell me what you like about them...

Thanks!!

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

Perfect construction, perfect burn, perfect draw, and typically pretty durn tasty. I haven't enjoyed every Davidoff product that I've smoked as much as the one's that are really on, but I've never had one that was bad.

Worth the price point? That's a good question.

What is the typical flavor profile? Much variation between the different blends etc or is there a consistent core flavor?

Nutty, creamy, sweet, with herbs thrown in here and there.

Grassy. My FIL loves them for their grassy flavor. I had a millenium lancero that was great. Tasted like grassy chocolate.:dr

Well, I will certainly agree on that they have perfect construction and an elegant aroma. BUT, they are terribly overpriced for what you get taste-wise! Davidoff appeals to the casual consumer with lots of money. The brand, like Cuban Cohiba and Montecristo, is meant to be expensive but unlike the Cuban brands mentioned, you hardly get anything for your money! :fl

The only Davidoff that I enjoy is Millenium Petit Corona.

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

I've smoked one or two, but never overwhelmed... a lot pricey IMO.

Quality stuff, no doubt.... just not my cup of tea, I remember the ones I smoked being a little mild for my taste. If I want a nice mild cigar, give me a Casa Torano with a cup of coffee in the AM.... nice:tu

Never had one but it was Gordon Gekko's favorite in Wall St.

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

I think Ji summed it up perfectly. Even though I agree that Davidoffs are pricey, for me, it's more than worth it. For the experience it provides me, there is no other cigar that comes close.

If you're looking to get kicked in the nuts by a cigar's strength, move past the Davidoffs. They're exceptionally complex, filled with subtlety and nuance, and a cigar that is best enjoyed when you have quality time to dedicate to it.

I've NEVER been dissapointed by a single Davidoff. Ever. But I've been dissapointed by every other cigar at one time or another. At the risk of sounding too cerebral, I literally find myself having a real experience everytime I light one up. Just like really good cooking, you can taste the love that was put into these cigars. Its all in the construction, aroma, taste, burn qualities, strength, and overall character.

My tastes are wide-ranging. From Macanudo Gold Labels to Illusione Holy Lances. But if I fire up a Davidoff, it's because I have time to really sit down and spend some quiet time, contemplating the days events, and enjoy one. And in the end, it's all about the experience and enjoyment a cigar provides you.

Honestly though, I can see how smoking one knowing how much you paid for it, could actually distract from the enjoyment of it :)

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

The thousand and clasics are flavorfull but mild. The special serise and millenium lines are more of a medinum body with lots of flavor. Then you have the Limited Editions which are just amazing in both flavor and strenght. I agree that they are not for everyone but as stated above if you have the time and money I don't think you will be disappointed with the flavor.

just my :2

The 100th Anni Diadema is one of the best damn cigars I have ever smoked. Friend of mine and fellow BOTL Frank "Jechelman" is in the same camp. I've got a box + 3 singles resting in the humi for special occasions. Priced at $20 + it makes it hard for them in many peoples eyes to stand up to many of the CC's but even if I were offered the choice between a Sig VI or a 100th Anni I would most likely grab the latter. Plus I don't have to worry about those black helicopters. :usa

I've always wondered also but I've never tried one.

I'm always confused to what to try in their line with all the options and the price of each one to try. If I have a bad one at that price it will probably turn me off.

One day........

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

Most of the Davidoff's I have burned reminded me of a very, very good Macanudo Hyde Park as far a flavor but the construction and appearance is without equal.

I guess my only complaint is that you don't always get them with that clean white band that makes them look elegant.

I've smoked 2 from my box. Both damn good.

I smoke one a year on my wedding anniversary (give or take a day depending on circumstances).

Should I take the bands off or leave them on when I bleach them?

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

I love Davi's for their complexity. It's a no fail situation with a Davi. I've never had one that didn't burn purfect, was veiny, or had a bad flavor. If I want something stronger, I'll go for a Fuente or Edge, but when I just want a great smoke, I grab Davidoffs.

I have never had a memorable Davidoff. The only thing I do remember is to never buy one for that price again.
Anyone had their Zino before? I had a B&M owner agree with me on the Davidoff's flavor/price area but tried to convince me to try Davidoff's Zino. Said they were worth it... any opinions?

They really are a beautiful stick, regardless of vitola. The flavors may not knock you off your chair, but they are delicious. Great smokes, in general.

Too expensive to enjoy every day (at least for me), but they are a nice treat for special occasions. I keep a few Tubos in the humi for random great day.

Davidoff Winston Churchill series were the first cigars I purchased and were really good. I have to say consistency and good construction along with good taste. That said, I'm truly curious to see what will happen with the purchase of Camacho cigars.

I'm not a fan of the current Zino lineup, although I can remember smoking a few from time to time when I was a 19 year old punk.

Re: What is it About Davidoff?

I've only had a few Davidoffs, but they are very good smokes. Incredibly consistent, good draw, and nice taste (a little mild for my tastes but good). If they were 5 dollar smokes I'd have several boxes, but at their price I probably won't buy another, since there are other alternatives at that price I like a lot more.

This whole conversation has me :dr....think I will go out and smoke one of those overpriced wonders. A Millennium Short Robusto might just do the trick.
