Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Highly
Man, these guys are really high on Gurkhas.
Cigar.com Daily Deal Looking for the best? Gurkha Centurian is about as nice as they come. Originally commissioned by one of the richest men in the world for his daily cigar, Centurian is reserved for the most discerning aficionados. Gurkha is the top manufacturer when it comes to the best tobacco and the most prestigious reputation. Simply put, they are the best of the best and are considered the "Rolls Royce" of the cigar industry. (O' RLY?!) While Gurkha is one of the most prestigious cigar makers in the world, Centurian is their most prestigious cigar blend. Made in sparing numbers, this cigar was originally commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei, one of the world's richest and most powerful men, for his personal everyday cigar. Because no corners could be cut in constructing such a perfect cigar, it is made in a perfecto shape (tapers on both ends) making it a size only the most qualified rollers at the factory can produce. This requirement means you can expect flawless construction, appearance, and taste from this cigar. The 8-year-old Dominican fillers are finished with a Connecticut wrapper allowing for a medium-bodied cigar with a unique and enticing aroma. |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I would consider them the Ford Pinto of the cigar industry. :D

Personally I put K. Hansotia and Rocky Patel in the same category. Too many lines... how could anyone make a consistent quality smoke when they are producing line after line. Rocky would slap his name on a cameroon wrapped dog turd if it put a few bucks in his pocket. I feel K. Hansotia would do the same. Hence the celebrity pimping of his line above. Who cares! OK rant over...bad day...The weather is great and I'm stuck in the office working 12hr shifts . Between you and me Id rather be outside smoking a Gurkha :r |

They have way too many lines to sift through. I did have a Legend perfecto and it was pretty good. I just do not know which lines are their "go to" lines.

I'm not a Gurkha whore, but I do like the Centurians. I also like some of the Rocky Patel's smokes.

Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I think it's just way too easy to get on the "I hate all Gurkha and Rocky Patel" bandwagon. It's like if a few people say they don't like a particular cigar, then everyone wants to say they don't like the brand. If you haven't smoked the cigar, how can you completly write it off. If you have smoked the cigar and didn't like it, then by all means trash it.

Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I like RP cigars. :tu
We're not gonna start this up again are we? |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I've never had a Gurkha, but I do own one.
Tonight may be the night I smoke it and decide which side of this debate to join. |

Good, if they're that good, put all those nasty Davidoff chit-sticks on sale to liquidate them.
Oh, and uh....only email me that special, no one else would want to know. |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
If it helps, I'm not a fan of Davidoff cigars due to their price. They are good cigars, but just not good enough for the money (I also don't light my cigars with $100 bills). I pick Avos over the Davidoffs all day long.

Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I have had a few Gurkhas, and heck, the construction seemed very good. I really cant remember much about them. Also though, the ones that I did try were the same size/blend. With so many Gurkha's out there, I really cannot say I hate the brand since I have only tried on of their sticks.
I have a Gurkha Royal Salute that I have had for about 2 years now. I think after this thread it is a good time to try it out and see what I think about this $30 MSRP cigar. |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I seem to remember Gurkhas being really expensive a few years ago. In fact I think it was kind of a joke because they would always go for much less than MSRP on cigarbid.
anyhow, I got one in a trade a while back. It was very pretty, well constructed. I don't think I was blown away by the flavor but it was far from a cremosa. I always remember the bad ones. :ss |

The last one literally made me sick to my stomach... wanting to vomit isn't a fun feeling and I do my best to avoid it. I tried several of his blends and everyone of them gave me the same gag reflex... so after a few tries I said enough! Regardless of any of his cigars being good or not, a few bad apples is enough to keep me away forever. :pu I compare it to bad food at a restaurant... how many times do you need to get sick before you just won't go back? I just ate at a chili's for the first time in 3 years... and I regretted it. The food wasn't that good, was way overpriced, and made me sick... so I won't ever go back. Some of them might be ok, but the whole chain is dead to me. |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I used to love the Gurkha Double Maduro and RP Connecticut when I started in this hobby. In fact, I loved everything CI would sell me cheap.
Then I found Pepin, and Padron...... The rest, as they say is history. Still resisting the ISOM's, can't afford to go in heat right now. |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I agree that their MSRP's are way out of wack and if I bought them at a MSRP, I would likely be dissapointed, but considering that most of them are actually sold for under $8, I believe that there are some winners in the bunch.

After several different Gurkha lines, I have completely written them off. ;) Only Rocky Patel that I thought was decent was the Olde World Reserve. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'..... |
Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
It's all good. Smoke what you like, one man's trash is another's treasure. I can think of several brands that I don't care for, which others may love, but that's what's so great about this hobby/passion.

Re: Wow. Didn't Know Gurkhas Were Thought Of So Hi
I wanted to like Gurkha, and picked up an assortment of 5ers off of CI. The Nepalese Warrior was the best, when they weren't plugged. A handful of others had the same issue too. Smoked them out of the humidors after that. The bands are a pain to take off as well.
I like RPs, especially the Cuban Blend maduros. Wish the prices were nicer, but that's the hobby for you. |

If they were cheaper, I'd say that the percentage that I had that were plugged VS the ones which weren't wouldn't warrant me writing them off. But honestly, even at $3-5 a stick, it's still pretty spendy for something I'm not too impressed with. Then again I'm one of those who hears $10 stick and think "wtf, is it a cc?" I keep a box of Estaban Carreras in my stash, and those tend to be plugged just as much. But I pick up a box for $20 at a time, so I can forgive. lol |
