El Cobre by Oliva
Today I was raking the yard and finally got to spark up an El Cobre that Scott (sofaman) gifted me.
I don't write many reviews. I really only write them when a cigar is at one end of the spectrum or the other, mostly because I'm not much for heaping words on top of mediocrity. I do like to hope that everyone gets to try something that's good, and that bad cigars should die a quick and painful death. :) I'll start backwards by saying that gathering up some El Cobres has become an instant high priority. I can only compare the El Cobre to one other cigar. The El Original. These things will absolutely pollute you. I've been done smoking that cigar for seven or eight hours and the stink is just now starting to let up. The El Original is one of my all-time favorites. I order them from the Keys at Island smoke shop. I've been out for some time now and haven't reordered because I'm so caught up in the slew of cigars that come in and out of here. The El Cobre is so very similar that I'm going to order a box of each so I can compare them side to side. This thing really brought me back to "what I like". I'm a hog. I like gross stuff. If something's bad for me, I always hope it could be worse. This El Cobre fits the bill. I think the best way to explain it is that "it's the cigar that everyone who doesn't smoke cigars thinks a cigar is like." Ya know that face they make? This is what they're really thinking. :D I went and looked up the cigar and saw nicknames about it. "The Lobotomizer" was one. "Bruce Lee" was another. I didn't find it at all strong nicotine-wise. It's definately got enough flavor, fullness, and body to overwhelm a person who isn't a fan of that end of cigars. I could see it making a guy blow chunks. Not from the buzz, but because it totally pollutes your senses. If the thought of the pinnacle of spice, chocolate, caramel, tire, cowsh!t and smoke is of any interest to you at all, you must try this stick. If you get to the other end of it, Try an El Original. If there's anything beyond these guys, I cannot wait to try it. I give this stick a Tripple Eff 10, :tu :tu, and a Cigar Afficianado rating of 7 or 107. |
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
I'm so confused by this review? Do you like it or not? lol.
|
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
been sitting on one of these for close to a year now. this review certainly makes it seem like something worth trying once. maybe it will have the spice, chocolate, and caramel, but the time its been resting will have ditched the tire and cowsh!t.
either way, thanks for the review! it was an enjoyable read stearns |

Robusto "It’s like being kicked in the balls" LOL! Classic line!! I wish they offered these in a 5'er, but I know if I bought a 5'er...I'd end up buying a bundle....or 2.:dr |

They are not that strong once they get some rest in the humi, but they are tasty!
|
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
They still have some kick to them but are not as strong as some others that I have had.
|
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Are these even available anymore? I've been looking for them but so far every source for Oliva that I know is out of stock (and there doesn't seem to be any plans on restocking them either).

Just smoked one gifted to me by the slippery Shilala and absolutely loved it!!
I highly recommend it if you are looking for a magnificent mound of maduro taste!! :tu |
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Pick up a bundle of robustos, they aren't as strong as I thought they would be. I must have fried my taste buds , but all and all a very tasty cigar! I would pick these up again, with out a doubt. :tu

Re: El Cobre by Oliva
I snagged one of these in a pass. I can't wait to try it. Thanks for the review!

I would not even call them full bodied anymore... |
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Yeah, I purchased some of these over a year ago and didn't think they weren't nearly as strong as I had read. I thought the LFD DL Chisel kicked me harder than the El Cobre.
They STILL stink (but such a good stink) just as much as they did back when I first bought them though! |
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
I just smoked another one of these yesterday and it was excellent. Once again, not nearly as powerful as they've been hyped to be, but absolutely delicious, full, and a true pleasure to smoke.
I walked around for ten minutes with the nub in my mouth once it was done. I don't think I've ever done that with any cigar. |
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
just drybox them Scott, the dryer they get, the more power.
|
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Smoking one right now...
Love this little butt-kicker! Scott described it well. I was gifted this one... planning on getting some more. :D The guy who gave it to me included it in a bunch of strong smokes... I think he was trying to kill me - but I really liked this robusto. :tu |
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Whew... half-way through...

Re: El Cobre by Oliva
does anyone sell fivers of these? would like to sample a few before taking the big plunge...
|
Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Keep checking cigarmonster for their "flight samplers" of these.
Or you can just buy a bundle and then resell the rest if you don't like them. But don't worry, you'll like them. |

Re: El Cobre by Oliva
Yeah, I just said cigarmonster as they show up pretty regularly and are cheaper than on the regular site. Cigarmonster is Famous's version of Joecigar. But it looks like you can buy singles on famous so that may be the way to go. Personally I really like the toro size.
