Nice justin, what kinda a price did you find it at?

Gettin ready to list some PMP .223 ammo tonight on gunbroker. Figure I can rebuy it next year :)

Re: First Firearm Thread.

90 bucks plus like 7 shipping, orderd it 12/27

Re: First Firearm Thread.

not too bad in this market :)

I've got 1200 rnds of IMI m193 coming in from wideners next week. paid .50 a round for it, shipped. Figure if I can sell 1000 rnds of PMP for .80 a round and clear .72/rnd after fees, I'll be ahead of the game :)

Re: First Firearm Thread.

just keep in mind that ammo doesnt ship cheap and it has to go to a UPS hub to ship, UPS store won't do it. make sure you declare it and get the proper ORM-D on the package

spectrrr 01-30-2013 09:42 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

mmm, HUB ONLY ehh... I'll have to check, I'm pretty sure there's one 5 minutes from the UPS store I go to normally... I found what they're calling a "UPS Customer Center" on the camp... only open from 4pm-6pm on weekdays, sounds promising...

Same story with guns I take it? Hub only?

Maybe I'll wait to list the ammo till I check tomorrow.....

emopunker2004 01-30-2013 09:52 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Not sure on guns. Those may have to go USPS of some sort. The reason the ammo has to go UPS ground is because of the HAZMAT issues with flying it. Might wanna try listing the ammo and guns on armslist or something similar locally to save on having to ship it and stuff.

Cancelled my order with Grafs for 200rds of 7.62x54R and bought this instead :D

Re: First Firearm Thread.

nice pickup there, looks like it's in awesome shape :tu
I never did get a Mosin...

mmm, hazmat... lol, cuz the ammo is going to spontaneously combust under the altitude change, lol....

Good suggestion for armslist, can always try there... I'm guessing there's more suckers on gunbroker though :)

Re: First Firearm Thread.

It's 1970s manufacture but yeh it's packed in those hermetically sealed spam cans, **** stays in amazing shape. Thats why i like how my 200rds of 5.56 came in that battle pack. Sealed thick plastic. I could put it in my toilet tank to hide it if i want :r

Do any of you guys run a non mil spec trigger in your AR(s)? I am looking at drop In's and wanted your input.

spectrrr 01-30-2013 10:07 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I've got a few spam cans of 7.62x39mm, love it, never have to worry about the ammo ever. LOL, don't think it would last long in the toilet tank though :r

Normally I just pack it into 50 cal cans w/ a few silica packets. If the seal looks good, I'll rub a little white lithium grease on it and close her up. If the seal looks like it's getting on in a years, I'll scrap off the top layer of rubber and crud with a butter knife, then spread some black silicone rubber gasket maker in a line around the edge. Give it an hour or two to mostly dry, and then close her on up. Worked great so far to preserve any ammo I've got laying around.

Not I. I run a mil-spec, and always will.

Cuz mil-spec works. It's going to be a defense/offense weapon, not a paper puncher or precision rifle. Mil-spec is all I need, I'd rather spend the money elsewhere on my rifle or use it to buy ammo. :2

So... anyone know of a cheaper .357 stub? I have been wanting one for a while now and seems 375 - 400 is the best I have seen... thoughts?

spectrrr 01-30-2013 10:37 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Triggers depend a lot on use. For a defensive or offensive gun, yeah, mil spec all the way. I want a little bit of two stage creep in my pull.

if I was shooting high power matches, then I'd use something appropriate for that (just a lightened/refined mil spec I think).

I'm thinking of shooting 3gun - when I start that, then I'll likely put in a single stage drop in. Why? because it fits the 3gun need.
I wouldn't prefer that gun for use as a home defense gun however. I might just stick the 3gun upper onto a spare mil-spec lower at home in between matches. A light single stage hair trigger is the last thing you want on a home gun.

I run Giessele in almost all my ar's. I use the SSA on anything that I consider a fighting gun and SSA-E on the play stuff. The others are stock two stage triggers from LMT and Armalite. All are non adjustable triggers. I chose non adjustable triggers for less parts to go wrong. I like the feel and control of two stage triggers. It all comes down to personal preference though.

Just estimated my income tax, looks like we'll get back about $2200 this year. :D
We always split that 50/50 so I'll have about $1100 of fun/gun money whenever my FIL gets around to doing his and our taxes

Hey Mikey! Hmm what to spend $1100 on...lol

Aimpoint PRO $380
Troy Forend for AR $190ish
Magpul Front BUS $40
______________________________
$610

So $500 for a shotgun and ammo...lol
Or $730 if I just get the Aimpoint.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Word... Thanks Mike... I like the look of their stub .357 ...

The .357 has always been a favorite of mine... a lot of punch and the gun doesn't have to be massive like the .44 mag... you throw in you can also shoot or alternate rounds between .357 and .38 and it has my favor...

Any other rounds you guys love or suggest I look into? I have shot most of the standard sizes... .380 /9mm /9mm kurd / .40 / .45 / .38/ .357 mag/ .44 mag...

Im interested in the 10mm.... anyone have anything to say about it?

Remo 01-31-2013 12:47 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Not shot a 10mm but hear good things.

emopunker2004 01-31-2013 12:50 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Better get into reloading if you want 10mm.
1) Pricey
2) Alot of the 10mm loads on the market are underloaded and not maximizing it's potential

Mike I edited my post to say:
Aimpoint PRO $380
Troy Forend for AR $190ish
Magpul Front BUS $40
______________________________
$610

So $500 for a shotgun and ammo...lol
Or $730 if I just get the Aimpoint.

Hm I wouldn't mind a 30-30 Lever Action either

I haven't shot one either but if its pricey and underpowered I think I'll just pass...

10mm is a powerful cartridge, but if you reload you can make it better. Think .40 S&W on roids.

Robulous78 01-31-2013 01:01 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I really didn't notice too much of a difference between the .40 S&W to the 9mm... maybe alittle more punch but not so much that I would go out and buy a .40 over a 9mm... 9mm is cheaper anyway...

you cant go by recoil. let your buddy shoot u with each and see which you like least :r

lol... I take it you have looked into the actual ballistics... what is the real difference?

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Here, go watch. http://www.youtube.com/user/tnoutdoors9/videos?view=0
Nice tests galore.
Either will kill with good shot placement. If you can shoot the 40 as good as the 9 and get good follow up shots, go with the bigger bullet. :2

Remo 01-31-2013 01:09 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Another downside I have heard about the 10mm is that they do have some serious recoil and are a bit hard to control.

Take a look at the Diamondhead VR-S rail. I think that's going on mine. I like the look, and I particularly like the way they designed their barrel nut - no timing issues, looks sturdy as heck.

Here's some close ups of the mounting system and the rail: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_12/58...Handguard.html

Just keep in mine that the inches measurement is for the TOP rail. Add a little over an inch for the bottom.

Samson evolution has good reviews too, but good luck finding one in stock :)

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I'm gonna go with a Samson/raniner evolution if I find one or the Troy alpha.
Think I might just get one of the nef/hawk/norinco 870 clone shotguns. They're great for the money.

/I was looking for the samson quite a bit, couldn't find one. Found a few midwest SS ones though. And it seems diamondhead is more in stock than others, so now I don't have to look :)

$200 is a great pice for a shotty. I've been thinking about one of those myself. Also been looking at a 930 semi auto..

Mike I am 10 mm guy, 10 has no worse recoil then .40 s&w (short & weak, ha-ha) or a small 9.

If I loaded up all my Glocks from G17 thru G30 the only one that stands out is the G27 (.40) the recoil is tad bit sharper. My 10mm Colt Delta has = recoil to my .45 Colt Gold CUP.

Rob if I were going to buy a .40 I would rather the 10mm like Justin pointed out. A lot of std FMJ ammo for 10 has a tendency to not coming close to living up to its potential (because men have turned in pus-ies) But the is a difference in 180 gr. 40 cal is around 1000 fps /350 ft/lbs vs. 200 gr. 10mm is 1050 fps 490 ft/lbs.

The 10mm has the capability to stomp the nuts off the .40, there is good 10mm ammo out there if you are looking for a top level performer. :tu

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Talked to my moms landlady today, who decided to launch into conversation about the letter she wrote Obama with her idea for solving the "problem" we've got now...

She came up with what I thought for a split second was going to be a good idea. She correctly deduced that guns don't kill people. (imagine that)........ BULLETS DO. So to hell with gun control, she's pro gun... but doesn't feel safe around bullets. *DOH* She wants a little portable detector, maybe something that can go in her cell phone, so she can be alerted to the presence of bullets, that way she can leave the room.

I pointed out the pitfalls of increasing ammo costs to the point where people could not afford to train to a level of proficient safety (amongst many other things), and she said "GOOD!!" But don't worry, she's not anti-gun, and doesn't even know why I'm talking about them when she's only talking about bullets.

*sigh* Ron White said it best...
