Gutsy move by Leyland, putting Scherzer in and going for broke. Nice job by Max getting out of his self-created jam.

Hope those bats stay lively on Thursday!

Congrats, Adam.

If Verlander can pitch like he did in Game 2 and the team can hit like they did in Game 4, it will be the Tigers. :)

Hey Garry so does everyone for good or ill, look at the Sox game the other night and the #*#&ing "ring" above home plate, guy pops up, it hits a speaker but comes straight down and is caught but they say its not an out guy get's on base eventually, then someone that wouldn't have been up that inning hits a 3 run bomb. At least that call wasn't the direct cause of the loss, let's face it things got pretty sloppy.

I hear ya Adam. I think sometimes it is better to not use the replay then. A's had opportunity to score, but, I feel that had a big impact on the game.

And it did so in foul territory so BY RULE, it's a foul ball.

It seems you complain about everything that doesn't go in favor of the Redsox.

HR call was close. Given the trajectory it was going over the yellow line and it didn't appear Reddick was going to get it. However, with the fan touching the ball now we'll never know. It would have changed the game if reversed but not necessarily the outcome.

I was amazed Leyland left Sherzer in with the bases loaded and nobody out. He definitely came through. That said, I can't believe he put Max in at all. He's been pretty adamant about NOT moving starters up. I think Verlander's showing in game 2 and the fact he'll be fully rested for game 5 greatly influenced that decision.

Speaking of game 5. I'd really like to see V-Mart catch, Miggy DH, Peralta play 3rd, and preferrably Dirks in LF. Avila hasn't hit and Miggy's hurting too much to be effective defensively. Plus, there's a TON of foul territory to cover in LF in Oakland that I know Jhonny can't cover. This could result in the A's trying to run more on V-Mart but I'd take that risk vs a weak fielding 3B and LF. Just my :2

BTW Go Tigers!!!

Me too....I thought it was awesome. ;)

On a serious note....4 camera angles, outfielder never had a shot, it was past time a foot over his glove. Umpires, commentators and analysts agreed with me. But it's moot...it's all about Game 5 now, Garry.

It was over home plate, don't care where it fell it was CAUGHT by the catcher and was ruled a dead ball, actually was ruled dead after he caught it even. Seems that you like to pick at me about everything even if you aren't sure what's going on.

What makes you think I don't know what's going on? I watched the game, too. Rules apply to all teams. Even your beloved Red Sox.

Stop yer whining. I call em like I see em. Besides, if you're willing to talk $hit, you've got to be willing to take some.

Start V-Mart at catcher, Peralta at 3B, Dirks in LF.

On a more serious note, after much speculation and reported pursuit by the Cubbies and Gnats, Joe Girardi has signed a 4-year extension with the Yankees. :banger

And yes, this is more serious than actual post-season games because . . . well, because it is the Yankees. :r

I'd be thinking that way too if I were a Padres fan. ;s :r

I dunno, Dirks in, Avila out? I'm torn, Mike.

Hoping not to have to hear anything more about the Yankess until April, unless it's that some of their players are headed to prison. :r

Sad to see the Pirates season end yesterday. What a year it was for this franchise, especially looking back to the previous 20 years. Kudos to them and their fans. Now I'm left with noone to root for in the playoffs.

Re: MLB 2013 Thread

I'm not in love with V-mart catching so Miggy can DH, but the Tigers clearly need Jhonny's bat in the lineup but can't afford his lack of mobility in that HUGE LF out in Oakland. Avila is a better defensive catcher and catching is tough on Victor's knees I'm sure. I just think this would keep all the important bats in the lineup and put out the best overall defensive configuration available.

BTW Mac, we'll take you as a temporary fan if you want to pull for the Tigers. Plenty of room on this train.

Good series. I blame our loss on game 4. Bases loaded, no outs... couldn't get 1 run across the plate.

I'm sure they'll be traded away pretty soon.

Nice to see Verlander return to form.
It's amazing when a guy struggles a bit, how many declare him done and jump off the bandwagon.

I'm rooting for your tigers, Tom.
That may not bode well for them, as I've become "The Mush" of late. :(

I appreciate it anyway, Dom. Verlander has been unreal in the last two postseason series with the As, a Game 1 lead off homer to Coco in 2012, and 32 scoreless, 5 hit innings since then. Guess he had to show Scherzer he is still the Ace. :D

I would agree. That was the turning point. If the A's get a base hit there, they take at least a 2 run lead and probably the series. Max really turned it on and got those 3 outs.

Thanks Dom. We'll take ya. I watched my Tigers post 119 loses a few years back so I'm really excited about them moving on. JV still has it in him as he proved last night. He's just been inconsistent and a bit unlucky this year. The announcers last night mentioned the Tigers got shut out in 4 games in September, 3 of them JV pitched. He's has some stinkers this year but he also pitched some scoreless games and got ND's instead of W's.

I have to say I'm worried about AJ. He has better numbers against Red Sox pitchers so I hope he can turn it around. Even if Miggy's lacking power, he's still getting hits and can drive in AJ/Tori if they're getting on base.

Overall the ALDS was quite a series. Benoit gave me nervous fits last night. I wish JV came back out but it worked out in the end.

I think with Verlander, Scherzer, Fister and Sanchez, the Tigers have the best 4 man rotation in baseball on paper....when they actually execute it, they're scary good, Garry.
