If I recall he got 126m for 7 years?

He has not done ANYTHING for SF, except give up runs.

The Jays are asking for a lot to get Doc. Possible 2-3 mlb players right now with AAA players on top of that. You will have to give up a lot to get him. But good pitching beats good hitting anyday. Any team would love to have him. One of the best pitchers in baseball today.

The Jays scouts have been doging the Sox Buchholz, Buchholz has a start Friday night in Toronto.
I don't thing Boston will make a serious effort for him the price is to high?
One thing the Sox will do is drive up the price in case the Yanks want him:banger
JP will not let any club negotiate an extension until after a trade, that can be a deal killer for any team?

Lets put it this way......Kenny Williams(GM for the Sox) has said that they(himself and the Jays) have talked together about getting Doc. To get him we would need to give up 3 mlb players right now. John Danks, Gavin Floyd and A. Ram. And possibly toss in our #1 rated prospect Gordon Beckham. Would it be worth it for one pitcher? Maybe. But down the road I believe Gordon Beckham will be an allstar. John Danks and Floyd are part of our starting rotation. So from the point of a Sox fan, I think it is safe to say that we will not end up with him, but whoever does, will being giving up a LOT to get Doc.

Timmy pitched his ass off tonight, but we could not get any good hits. Tomorrow.

Tim Lincecum is the best pitcher in the MLB right now.

Giants need to get out of this slump. Zito pitched well tonight, he did not give up a **** load of runs (just 2), our offense on the other hand. Ugh.

Yankees tonight. A-Rod hit a HR to put them up 1-0 late in the game. Great pitching duel between CC & Verlander.

Alright, let's hear it...who's gonna get Halladay? Anyone goona bite on Matt Holiday? What's your team need before the deadline?

My Mets need a complete pitching staff overhaul (minus Santanna), some hitters with pop, a few RBI guys, and the fences at Citifield brough in about 10 feet...LOL!!!

Bruins Fan 07-19-2009 03:09 PM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Halladay went 9 today to beat the Sox 3-1.
The guy is a very good pitcher, I listened to JP on a pre game interview yesterday, the guy wants the moon with a fence around it.
I don't think the Sox will pay that kind of price?
I am more concerned about our offense,it's spotty at best we need someone to come off the bench to hit a homer.

kelmac07 07-19-2009 03:35 PM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Although Halladay is a great pitcher...I personally wouldn't give away the farm for him.

So the Sox don't want Doc, the Mets don't want Doc - guess that only leaves my Yanks. Anybody want to but a lightly-used stadium. refurbished in the mid-70s? If the Big Dig is finally done, shouldn't be a problem hauling it to Yawkey Way.

Yeah, and the Yankees have never done this sort of thing before, so why start now? :r

If Cashman has the control like he say's he does then they will leave Doc alone. The guy is going to be in his declining years if the Yankees get him now. They already have Andy Pettitte to fit that role.

Not a bad first 1/2 inning for Sanchez pitching, considering he has not pitched since his no hitter.

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

The Yankees won 2-1 after a walk off HR by Matsui. That gives them 3 straight win with a final score of 2-1. The Red Sox are losing so so it may be a 1st place tie fr tomorrow morning.

Smoltz pitched 5 good ones and then blew it out of the water in the sixth. Very ugly inning for the Sox. Dunno why Francona left him in so long.

I keep hearing the Phils are the best match for Halladay, but the Jays sure sound like they're asking for a ton. I heard that Pat Gillick (no longer the GM, but still involved with the Phils organization) is in Toronto scouting him. Jays scouts are (supposedly) all over the Phils teams (MLB, AAA, AA, A) scouting.

Would I love to have him? YES! And the Phillies have several guys who are major league ready that have no place to play (Donald, Marson, Taylor) and have some pretty exciting minor league talent too (Brown), but what pitching would they have to give up to get him? Happ, Drabek, Corasco, Knapp? It's nice to be in the position to talk about it, and even nicer to have the talent other teams want making it possible, but how much is too much for Doc? Man, I don't know...

I can live with it considering his track record of 2 World Series and 1 AL Championship Series that went to game 7.:D

I highly doubt the Jays would trade him in the Division...maybe not even the AL.

Good news indeed. Gonna be back and forth the whole way out I think, we're in for some good baseball the second half (as long as everyone stays healthy!).

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

The AL East will go down to the last day of the season batteling for the Division and/or Wild Card. Either way they will both be in the Postseason and hopefully meet in the ALCS. Baseball needs the Yankees/Red Sox playing each other in the postseason. Those two teams equal big ratings.
