Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Out running errands, decided to stop by one local store I don’t check that often. Night need to stop by more. Redwood Empire Pipe Dream and a Bookers 22-02 (lumberyard batch). Yes please. Then hit up my regular store and the had Little Book Chapter 8. So much for not buying much anymore.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Ok, I’ve had a pour of each, still working on the LB. The Pipe Dream is good, if a bit hot. The Lumberyard is a good representation of Bookers. But the LB. Wow! Totally unique because of the high rye. Floral, citrus. Nothing like I’ve had before. :tu

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Very cool finding a '22 Booker's, Bob. I posted in a Booker's group on FB when I found some '16s on a shelf, and some guy starts calling me a liar and demanding I post a receipt. Yeah, Homie don't play those games, F***nuts. :lr
I think Garfield's has an open bottle on LB 8, I am going to have to try a pour. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
If you’re a rye fan, you should like the LB8. But trying before you buy would be a good idea. It’s nothing like what I expected.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Had another pour of the Lumberyard Batch. Damn good stuff. Wasn’t sure I already had this bottle when I bought it. Turns out I have the 22-01 batch.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
There was a time when I was really into ryes, Bob, but that eventually evolved into high proof bourbon. The only rye I really drink now is Whistlepig single barrel picks (still have quite a few). But it's by Freddie Noe so I'll give it a try. Wish I could get my hands on some Booker's Rye. :dr
I like Lumberyard better than Robbie's as I recall. Neither were standouts but both are solid. |

A few half decent pours between Peter Jeff and myself on Friday, between the three of us we managed to fill up the table :al

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Was inspired by a FB post to open a bottle of Booker's Shiny Barrel (2019-02). A great backstory to the name: Bunch of fat guys sampling bourbon rubbing the dust off the barrels with their huge bellies and that is how you know where the good barrels are.
It is my least favorite of the 4 2019 batches. That being said, it's better than all but a couple batches that have come out since 2019. ;) https://i.imgur.com/tbBqPfp.jpg |

Apologies to Colonel Taylor, bird flip to Blanton's, Dave. ;) :r

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Had some of Hugh's wonderful hazmat ECBP, then killed a Booker's Off Your Rocker. Hooray for backups!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
140.2? Wow, I've never had ECBP over 137...and it was incredibly smooth for such a high octane Bourbon.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Last night's post-Thanksgiving dinner pours. My BIL brought the Taylor. He won it earlier this year in a raffle at his HS reunion for $20. So damned smooth and tasty. The Booker's is good; the peanut funk is not as pronounced as the last Booker's I had (which was a few years ago), but is still there.

EH Taylor makes one even more thankful at Thanksgiving, James. :tu

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Thinning out my collection, so gifted my friends son a few bottles last night. He was thankful. :D

I have yet to get a bottle but did have a shot as my very first high proof bourbon introduction. I need to go back to Tampa and Corona cigars to try it again. |

Tony is right, though I rarely get lucky and find Stagg at retail Dave. Secondary prices have settled closer to $150-175 for the batches since '22.

Stopped by my local store to grab the Bourbon County Vanilla Rye, and snagged an Old Forester SiBBP Rye. 130.2 proof. Now to work on the open bottle I have. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Yeah, too much for current Stagg. I'd think about $200 for a few of the older batches (12 comes to mind first).
I opened the 2021 Barrell New Year that I picked up on clearance awhile back. It's the best version I've had. https://i.imgur.com/Kl69sLx.jpg |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I was shocked to see some Booker's on my local AFB. It's the first time in quite a while. At $90, I couldn't pass it up.

Looks like the Bookers run continues.
https://i.imgur.com/cvdJCBtl.jpeg Did find a store with a 24-01 behind the counter. $169, I’ll pass. |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Nice grab on the infinity! Hope to find one as well but seeming unlikely. I did grab a Bookers Reserve on black friday, tough decision between that and OGD 16yr until I looked at the prices and the Bookers was $50 cheaper. Haven't bought any Bookers in years (mostly because they're rarely available out here) but I got to try a sample of this one and really liked it. The bottle will get opened in a future year, stuck it in the back of the cabinet for now

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I stopped into Mabry's (formerly Maisano's) while out doing some Xmas shopping. Grabbed a BT barrel select, a Town Branch Single Barrel (for $50, I won't pass it up), and some ECBP B524.

Nice grabs! I'm curious to hear how the Town Branch is, I tried a single barrel one time that tasted like sour fruit candy, it was wild

For $50 it's worth it. $60+, and I'd rather get a Penelope or Still Austin Barrel Proof, or a KC 12. |

Pillaging Total Wine in Fremont. Bookers 24-04 on the shelf. Actually went back tonight and grabbed another bottle. It’s kind of like the 24-02 IMHO.
