Re: Cigar Photography

Unfortunately, my Macro isn't as good as you guys' newer point and shoots. I really need a new one. I'm still not in focus in this pic. I would still have to come back a little bit.
f/2.8, shutter speed 1/20, ISO 100, no flash. My advice is to play around with the settings so you figure out first hand what each setting does. I usually keep the ISO low unless I can't get a good exposure without raising it.

On my Macro shots, I usually keep my AV around F11 or so. I always shoot in M and RAW. Here's a couple other shots I've done in Macro.

Jumping Spider a little smaller than a dime

This tree frog was about the size of a quarter

I got a hold of my Dad's 100mm f2.8 macro lens. I'm gonna try it out tomorrow.

Holy hell, David, what setup do you have for those macro shots?

Oh, nevermind, I scanned the thread:

Did you format the card while it was in the camera before shooting?

Thanks Dan! For the insect shots, I also use a full set of Kenko Extention Tubes to get roughly 2:1 Magnification (2:1 = 2x actual size). The lens alone will only do 1:1. I just used the lens without tubes, and not at 1:1 for the cigar shots. Might have to try that though, tubes and all on a cigar.
