Mets close out the first half with a win over the Pirates this afternoon, 4-2...and avoid the sweep. Gee looked good again...evens his record to 7-7. That's like 7 quality starts in a row for him. :tu

Matt Harvey gets the nod to start the All Star Game. :tu :tu Kudos to Bochy for this. Even though we know it's a make up from last year when Dickey should have started the game and he started his own guy, Cain, because Posey didn't want to be embarrased.

Great All Star game last night. Harvey looked good (after he gave up the double and plunked Cano). Didn't realize he was gonna pitch two innings. Wright was 1-3. AL pitching really shut the NL down last night.

I was proud to be a Mets fan last night. Our two boys did a great job and Citi Field did an awesome job making all the players feel and look like stars.

Gee pitched a really nice game. Couldn't have asked for anything better from him. Parnell blew this one. Looks like we need relievers and a closer.

In other news, if that last ball got past the center fielder, we would have won that game.

Mets beat the Braves 4-1. Torres gives up a HR to the first batter of the game and shuts down the Braves the rest of the way. And the bullpen cooperates this evening. :tu

Mets win the first game of a double header with the Nats 11-0! Woohoo! Murphy had two HRs and five RBI. Davis also got a three run HR in the ninth.

Gee has "Home Runitis" this afternoon (gave up three solo shots) as the Mets drop one to the Nats, 4-1. Didn't help that hitters 4 through 9 went 0-18. :bh

If Dillon Gee could keep the ball down just a little bit and work the outside of the plate a bit more efficiently, he's gonna kick ass. Not that it really matters with the Mets, cause he'll get zero run support and pull a 1.79 ERA and a 7-14 W/L record. :D
I'm pulling for the kid, anyways. At 23 he's throwing impressively in well over 1/2 his starts. He's just a wiggle away from being a really good pitcher. He just needs to be diplomatic and throw some more ground balls.

Gee pitched another gem...only to have the bullpen blow it again. I swear we have the worst bullpen in MLB. Young saves the day in the 11th with a walk off 2 run HR as the Mets beat the Royals 4-2 in a costly game. :tu :tu May have lost Wright for a bit with his hamstring. :td :td

Yup. Another great effort from Gee, all for naught.
I hope the poor kid can get a gig with a ball club that can back him up. The Mets do tend to deal emerging stars to get minimum return so they can pay hearty salaries to underperforming has-beens, so he may just get outta town soon. ;)

That was Minaya's MO...keeping fingers crossed that Alderson doesn't do it. We have some great young pitching and could possibly compete in the near future. Alderson claims he won't make a deal, just to make one. He could have dealt Byrd away before the deadline and didn't do it. Time will tell. We just need a few more pieces and an entire outfield and we should be competitive.
