The Force, Don Winslow. Elite NYPD task force. The system is corrupt; so are they.

The Right Side, Spencer Quinn. Novel of a female soldier in Afghanistan, survives a suicide bombing that kills half her squad and takes her right eye, leaving her with shrapnel in her brain, memory loss, PTSD. Back in the US, she's not a dog person but then a stray unloved dog saves her life and she learns that her best Army friend has died from combat wounds and the friend's daughter has been kidnapped. Interesting plot and well written.

Words of Radiance, Brandon Sanderson. Book 2 in The Stormlight Archive. While only sometimes fatal, with treatment, it's a shame that he suffers painfully from logorrhea.

Not exactly for entertainment, but I'm going through Parasites of North American Freshwater Fishes right now. I have an interest in pretty much all things aquatic and it also proves helpful with fishkeeping.

Re: What are you reading?

Based on comments from last year that The Winds of Winter might finally be coming out later on this year, I re-read the Song of Ice and Fire books (otherwise known as Game of Thrones). I finished them on the day that G.R.R. Martin put out a press release that it should be coming sometime in 2018, 2019 at the latest.

Crime Scene, Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman, father and son. Coroner's Investigators in Alameda County, CA, are sworn Deputy Sheriffs. One investigator re-opens a 25-year-old accidental death case because he thinks the decedant's daughter is hot. Guess what he finds?

Pretty good story, I'll watch for the next book in the series.

Collated, Mark Rosenfelt. Lightweight but amusing. Series character is a reluctant lawyer who has established a golden retriever rescue. The author himself has established a golden retriever rescue and personally keeps 25 rescued goldens. Imagine the size of his looper scooper.
