LOL. You crack me up. You wouldn't bet the division b/c you said they will win that, but you did bet that the reds wouldn't make it the NLCS.

They should win this weak division, so the NLDS is almost a guarantee. Dan swears they are going to make the World Series, but he was to chicken to bet that. ;)

Rumors of straight up trade being laid on the table: Phillips for Cole Hamels. Not sure if this is legit or not.

I don't like it. I like Hamels, but can they sign him long term? Who will play 2nd base? They can't be as good at defense as Phillips and Hamels only helps out every 5 days.

Good trade, considering the Reds biggest hole is pitching. They have a bunch of #3-5 starters and one true starter. They can score runs, and keeping Phillips when this contract expires, is a big question once Votto leaves. Phillips Gold Gloves are well deserved, but last year was a product of home score keeping and having one the year before. :2

Ok, so lets say this trade happens. Who will be our second baseman?

That move reeks of panic by the Phillies. Fear of not being able to resign Hamels, and fear that Utley's not coming back. :2

That's why I don't like this idea. Frazier is about our best option right now.:(
Valaika?
Gregorius?

We've got a good cast of not ready guys, but nothing that will provide Phillips style defense and offense.

You are aware that he does play half of the season on the road and there is no home score keeper to help him out?

I have seen multiple plays at GABP where he should have gotten errors, not saying he should have 20 more, but at least 5 balls that he got a pass on. One he booted it, and then threw it in the dirt past Votto and no error. :hm :2

I don't know, I feel it is a wash. He doesn't get a positive mark when he makes a play that not many other 2B's could even get to.

Even so, he's still worth a sh!t ton of money, and he deserves it. I just hope he doesn't sign that big contract (for us or any other team) and wind up like Uttley.

Come on, take off the glasses. He makes a lot of good plays, but he doesn't make a lot of plays that other 2B's can't. Its like saying that Stubbs gets to more fly balls than other CF's. You need to stop listening to the Reds home broadcast team. ;)

He is a good 2B, and he will probably stay in Cincinnati. The problem is, this is the year they have to win, because Votto is gone either thru free agency or a trade. Hopefully they get a trade and get some value for him. Same with Phillips, if they can't resign him, they better trade him for something. Maybe this trade talk is an indication that Phillips doesn't want to stay. :hm

Cincinnati is a small market team, they can't come up with the scratch that almost any other team in the MLB can. If they buy one big player it forces them to play lesser quality prospects (Stubbs, Bailey) or get over the hill players (Renteria, Rolen). Their farm system seems to be good, but they management has no patience to allow players to develop. They rush everyone to the Big Show and try and develop them on the fly. :bh

It will be interesting to see if Marshall can be a great closer. Chapman will be a nice set-up guy.

Meh. I'd rather see Chapman in the rotation in Louisville than be in the pen in Cincy. After he proves himself as a starter for the Bats, then lets see what he can do for the Reds' rotation later this year or next year.

'Great' and Reds pitching do not go in the same sentence, Cordero was a decent closer, Marshall won't be much better, if at all.

Chapman can't pitch on the reg, and once he gets a few days in a row, he falls apart. The league seemed to have figured out that he doesn't throw many strikes and the 3rd day in a row he is worthless. His best shot is back in the rotation like he was in Cuba, but a high pitch count and as the season wears on, I think he will become even worse. Afraid to say it, but he is showing signs that his arm is already worn out. :td

I haven't given up on him yet, but he's been a bust so far. And that's not completely his fault. The Reds organization has completely mishandled this kid. He should have been groomed for the rotation since day one.

The Reds don't groom anyone. Just rush prospects to the Big Show without developing anything. They are supposed to have a nice farm system, its just too bad they never stay there. :td

Did not see that one coming, especially for such a light number. Free-agency would have gotten him at least $25M more. Brandon Phillips is all but gone now. They have chosen to move forward with Votto as the center of the team. I think it the better move. Hopefully they won't have the money to re-sign Stubbs when he comes up now. :hm

I hope they have really committed to spending the cash to keep the team competitive and don't surround Votto with scrubs because they spent too much money on him. :bh
