What lens are you using, Brooks? That is an incredibly narrow DOF. I love it!

I don't have my DSLR anymore, but here's a pic I took with my rebel xt using a sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 macro/telephoto. I wish I still has it, so I could take some really good cigar pics!

Nice, Chris! I had that same lens for my old Rebel (read: film). I loved it. Super sharp. But, when I went digital, it wouldn't make the transition. *sigh*

I'm gonna say it wasn't the 50 f1.8, because of how close the shot is. Unless he cropped it out.

Those were taken with either a D50 or a D80... Depends on which one was wearing which lens that day. Once upon a time before my divorce I used to be into photography and had a good bit of gear. That all changed when I saw the bill for the lawyer. :r :td

Using a 1dsMarkIII with a 50 2.5 macro....the only way to fly :)

Wow! Nice gear.

The gear doesn't make the photog though...

What do you all think of the eccj pic I took? Anyone have any suggestions to make it better or is it fine?

Did you shoot it in manual or auto mode? What was your ISO set at? Its a perfect macro shot IMO. It just seems a little noisy is why I ask about the ISO. I also think the white background blows it out a bit. Otherwise, a very good picture!

I did it in the auto mode. I think the auto mode put it in macro mode. What is ISO? Also, what is noise and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks! I am a noob when it comes to cameras.

He said he shot it with a canon powershot (point and click, not DSLR), I'm not sure it has any manual modes.

save a few hundred dollars and get a macro filter... that's what I used on my shots a few pages back (with my friend's Rebel XS). Macro filters are about $20.
