Re: What are you reading?

Well I've been pretty busy but have managed to read:

Wayward by Blake Crouch (You need to read Pines first)
Walk the Sky by Robert Swartwood
Dust by Hugh Howey
Hit and Three (both Chandler Series books) by Konrath/Kilborn
The Enraged by Brett Battles

A lot of the above are series that can stand alone but are much better if you read from the first book - with the exception of Walk the Sky.

Currently I am beta-reading "Eleanor" by Jason Gurley for release around November I think.

I'd also suggest: Mineko - Book of Sisters by yours truly. :D It's on Amazon and Smashwords. I do need a couple of reviews posted on both sites - so if a few of you guys/gals would promise to do that - I'll send you a free copy in either mobi or epub.

Re: What are you reading?

Re-reading Stephen King's The Stand (haven't read it in almost 20 years) but this time I'm listening to it on audiobook because I have a 30 min drive to and from work every day so it really kills the time but listening to it is better than any movie could ever try to be.

"On Saudi Arabia" by Karen Elliot House. Good read it told me a lot about current conditions in the country. Now I'm rereading "The Structure of Evolutionary Theory" by Stephen Jay Gould

Forever Peace by Joe Haldeman.
I tried to read Armageddon's Reef, part one of the Safehold series, David Weber, I think. It was awful. Just plain torturous.
Just finished Armor by John Steakly. Loved it.

Re: What are you reading?

"Life at the Speed of Light" by J Craig Venter. A review of the history and some current trends in genetic engineering. His description of the creation of the first synthetic cell offers an in depth look at the way science is done. Parts of the book are a little over my head but it is written for the layman and anyone who has any interest in biology can get most of it.

Finished up the Thrawn Trilogy, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command by Timothy Zahn.
I blew through Gone (Michael Bennet #6) by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge in 2 days.
Onto reading Year Zero by Rob Reid right now.
We set a goal for our daughter to read 20 minutes every night which is also helping my reading move along too.

That is great! This is the best thing for encouraging kids to read that will last a lifetime.

Nearly pulled the trigger on the nook version of Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard. I've been wanting to read it for a long time but never seem to actually read it. I've yet to figure out what personal deficiency is responsible for this. lol
Guess I'll go bit it and start reading it tonight. :)

Working my way through that myself. Really digging the series. Im jumping between Game of Thrones and "The Audacity of Hops" by Tom Acitelli. Great book on the history of American craft beer.

"Why Is the Penis Shaped Like That?: And Other Reflections on Being Human" by Jesse Bering
Series of essays on evolutionary physiology and psychology. Easy read with some interesting facts about behaviors that aren't generally discussed in polite company. A little anarky on the subject of religion which I could have done without but overall a good read.

Finished Let My People Go Surfing ... good read and the first 2/3 were really interesting. The last 1/3 was pretty preachy but as long as you know that going in (which I'd imagine you would of you know who Yvon Chouinard is) I think it's an all around good read.

Just started The Gold Standard by Mike Krzyzewski. :)

Brave New Worlds. It's a collection of short stories from various authors about dystopian societies. "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson is one, to give you an idea of what's in there. Some of them are pretty damn depressing, but are interesting reads. Even though it's fiction, it gives you perspective on how fortunate we are in this reality to enjoy our freedom.

Currently working on The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Easy read, the kind of story that you can just read along without having to give much thought to the characters or their motivations.

Just finished Killer by Jonathan Kellerman. I always enjoy the Alex Delaware novels.

I enjoyed the A Song of Ice and Fire series so much that I am giving The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie a go. Only about 100 pages into it, and it's "okay" so far.

Book 3 of the Dark Tower series. Very good stuff with typical Stephen King over doing it sometimes but good. While George RR Martin loves to over-describe EVERYTHING Stephen King LOVES to over-dialog EVERYTHING! Love both writers though.

If I could go back and tell my 13 year old self how much I love reading and how much I do read he'd just laugh his @$$ off at the very idea of it. :) Young and foolish I was
