Re: What beers are you enjoying?
The Vanilla Bean Dark Lord and Oak Aged Dark Lord were fun to try.
Both beers were great, I leaned more towards the VBDL. There is nothing that tastes like this beer. It was thick chocolaty and the vanilla didn't overpower the DL one bit. When I was getting close to the bottom of the glass you could see the small dots of the vanilla bean. Still wish I got some KBS on tap and never heard if the Canadian Breakfast Stout ever came out. |

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Drinking a Dark Horse "Plead the 5th." This is an awesome RIS.
I'm thinking a trip to Southern MI is in order to do some "quality control inspections" at Founders, Dark Horse, and Bells. All three are within 100 miles of one another. Plus, it's only 2-3 hours from there to the Shack Herf. That would be an awesome trip. :tu |

Having a New Belgium Ranger IPA. It's OK. New Belgium makes other beers that are much, much better than this one. I only wish they sold their beer in MA.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Legend Brown is quite tasty. I'm also a fan of Brooklyn Brown.
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Black Boss Porter and a Unibroue La Fin Du Monde (got a couple of them from some lady who I gave a cigar to her husband at the DLD)
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
tried a Chimay red out of the 3 bottle set with the glass (on sale for 14.99 at World Market, had to)
def. my first foray into Belgian beer of any kind, and as a change from all the IPA's and IIPA's, not bad, interesting fruit flavors, like mild apple or orchard fruit, which I am assuming is from the yeast. Can't wait to try the white and the blue next. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
I'm drinking another Deschutes Black Butte porter. I've probably had a case of these since they hit MN last month.
|
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Bells Expedition Stout. I love this beer. Dark Lord Day put me on another RIS kick.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Brown's Whiskey Barrel Aged Porter out of a fresh growler.
Outstanding. Just took a Gold at the New York Tap Fest, and the brewpub is on my way home, :banger Bourbon, vanilla, oak......mmmmmm. All out of a rather small porter at only 6% abv. This is the perfect alternative for when I want that bourbon/vanilla taste but don't want to get blastet by a BCS or KBS. I would call this thin, except it has a ton of flavor. So, I'll say the body is light and drinkable, and the flavor is :tu |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
That sounds like a great drink Vic. :tu

I'm not much on sticking within style guidelines, but the thinness bothers me for some reason, even though it's really flavorful. I think what it is it seems CHEAP to me. It's a fairly low ABV (just under 6%), and the body is thin. Pulling on my homebrew background this says, low O.G., which says not much malt in the mix.:) Or I don't know, maybe I've just gotten so used to BCS, KBS, Nightstalker etc that everything in comparison seems thin, LOL |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
I got a favorite that fits that bill too.
John Henry 3 Lick Spiker Ale. It's an ale but with a bourbon/smokey flavor. It's not thick like a stout or porter. I don't think it's cheap cause it's $11.99 a six pack (:r) which is still cheaper than KBS. It's from Cold Springs MN and could be a daily favorite. |

Wouldnt using sugar have a tendency to increase the abv while keeping the body light though? The abv on this is below 6% |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?

I'm not saying there's no way they used sugar, just that its not likely for the abv and the style. Anything is possible though.....:tu |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Going to have Founders Double Trouble this weekend.
Gonna have to watch how much though, last time these just seemed to flow down way too easy:r |
