I say just build it yourself. I just built my first one using a pair of channel lock pliers covers with electrical tape to help prevent scratches. It was easy! Now I have punches because I have more to build.

The only special tool you may need is the ar wrench for the castle nut. But you can easily just use your hands.

If your building, make sure to check/clean all the holes were detents and springs are inserted. Also make sure the bolt catch slot is smooth as at times it's a bit rough in there from the finish.

I dunno about the rate of fire I've never done this or compared it to a full auto. But I do remember shooting a full auto MP5 and I have to say DAYYYUUUUMMMM. But it cost me about $10 a clip (or $10 every like 2-3 seconds) :td

Good times though, and worth it.

You can bump fire from the shoulder too. Here I am with my buddies semi ar bumpfiring from the shoulder while aiming. My AKs are great at bumpfiring, just harder to do it from the shoulder, the light recoil of the 5.56 makes it easy.
But yeah, kind of expensive to do it now. I miss the days of $2 a box 5.56.

I am looking at purchasing this rifle: H&R .44 Mag

We bought land in Indiana and they have dumb hunting laws requiring certain calibers. 44 Mag is one of the approved calibers. What do you think of this gun for deer/turkey hunting?

Can't you get a .30-30 for deer and a 12 ga. for turkey?

I just looked online at Indiana's laws and it looks like I can't use a rifle for a turkey. Guess I'll have to buy a slug barrel for my Remington 870 12ga:
"Legal Equipment:
Turkeys can be hunted only with:
• A 10-, 12-, 16- or 20-gauge shotgun loaded with pellets of size No. 4, 5, 6, 7 or 7½.
• A muzzleloading shotgun not smaller than 20-gauge and not larger than 10-gauge, loaded with pellets of size No. 4, 5, 6, 7 or 7½. Combination loads using shot sizes other than these are illegal.
• Bow and arrow
• A crossbow"

Here is the info for deer:
"Rifles with cartridges that fire a bullet
of .357-inch diameter or larger; have a minimum case length of 1.16 inches; and have a maximum case length of 1.625 inches are legal to use only during the deer firearm season. Some cartridges legal for deer hunting include the .357 Magnum, .38-.40 Winchester, .41 Magnum, .41 Special, .44 Magnum, .44 Special, .44-.40 Winchester, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .458 SOCOM, .475 Linebaugh, .480 Ruger, .50 Action Express, and .500 S&W"

I don't believe a .30-.30 would be allowed. Am I right?

That info is weird. They say "rifle" and then list a bunch of handgun cartridges while omitting a lot of rifle rounds that would fit their definition.
Maybe that section is only for rifles that shoot handgun loads.
Edit: Or maybe that's all they want you to shoot with. Not many large caliber rifle round cases less than 1 5/8" long.

Indiana is a "no rifle" state meaning the only rifles you can use are ones that shoot handgun rounds, which is why they list all those. If I was you, I would use a 12 guage and take both slugs for deer and heavyshot (or similar) for turkey.

You can't shoot turkeys with a rifle in IN. You have to use a shotgun.

Correct. As Ryan said, no rifle state meaning they don't want people's rifle rounds travelling into populated areas. The lower half of Michigan's lower penninsula is the same way; Shotgun slugs and pistol only for firearm deer season. The northern LP and UP are both rifle friendly, but from what I hear (and have seen) there are less deer up there compared to down here lately.

Buddy had one of those in .223, it was surprisingly accurate.

I have a Marlin lever action in .44mag. It's a thumper, love that thing.

Sorry I missed this earlier. I have a 12-gauge Remington 870 Express SuperMag that I shot my button buck with last year. It's a regular smooth bore barrel with a simply bead sight.

Like this:
http://www.remington.com/~/media/Ima..._syn-prod.ashx
I shot a rifled 2 3/4" slug. I hit it in the spine from about 40 yards away. I was aiming for vitals but I hit the spine at the base of the neck. It ricochet downward hitting the upper half of the opposite leg shattering the bone. It dropped where it was standing despite my poor shot.

I will be doing a little more practice this year with it before I take to the field during firearm season. I just picked up a 15.5 ft ladder stand I'll be putting up in the back yard as well. This will make it even safer given the downward trajectory of any errant or passthrough rounds. It also helps get me closer without giving away my postion.

I thought about picking up a cantilevered barrel which when mounted would look like this:
http://www.remington.com/~/media/Ima...0exp_slug.ashx
The cantilevered barrel is thicker, rifled, and has the scope mount rails. They sell combos with both for around $400. However, I paid $250 for mine and the separate cantilevered barrels run around $200.

For that same $200 I can buy a dedicated slug gun and not have to mess with swapping barrels. That is my recommendation for you. If you don't have a good 12-gauge shotgun then buy a combo. If you do have one, just find a good dedicated 12-gauge slug gun. Remington & Mossberg are both really good shotguns that are pretty easy on the wallet.

I have a Remington 870 Express, but it doesn't have a slug barrel. What do you think, buy a slug barrel or just buy a separate gun.

Actually, I think my brother has a Mossberg that has both barrels. Hmmm... :hm

LOL, I got an E-mail about that ammo on sale. Not very good pricing, but it's for "home defense".

Great commercial/trailer though. They put some thought into it.
