Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Picked up my first ever bottle of BT for $22 while grocery shopping. It is smooth and easy to drink, but it felt a little "lite" last night. Have a ruined myself with all the 120+ proof bottles? :lr

Thankfully, (I ha to buy a bottle because of professional interest) it is a nice bourbon, is decently smooth with hints of caramel. It would be a bottle I'd buy again. Peace of the Lord be with you. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Angels Envy is decent.
More important...where do you stay when you are in TCI? My girlfriend and I have a been a couple times. We stay at Seven Stars on Grace Bay Beach. TCI is absolutely amazing.... |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I haven't bought the Angels' Envy because I haven't liked many of the finished bourbons I have tried. Only one that sticks out in my mind as having enjoyed is A Midwinter Night's Dram by High West Distillery. That being said, if someone has it where I go, I'd try it with an open mind (and palate).

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Stopped by 3 stores that were along my route today just to see what new stuff they had gotten in, which wasn't anything that interested me. Two of them got in some Weller SR and one some EHT Small Batch, but I am flush of both of those. One got in the Weller 12 Year 1.75 at $400 Neither who had the Stagg at $550+ had sold them...shocking.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Never seen the Weller 12 handle before, if they could cut their price in 1/3 it would be a cool buy
I went to a couple stores yesterday as well killing time in a new part of town, saw a 1.75 of Woodford for $71 and a few bottles of Knob Creek 25th anni at $130. Not bad prices but passed on both, was hoping to find something a little more enticing |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Good luck Ben! If anything has the names Stagg or Pappy in them, grab me one too? :D

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Just picked up another store/barrel pick of EC Small Batch. This one is called "The 9 minute late 9 year old" as opposed to the 10 yr store pick I got before. They let me sample them side by side in the store and the difference was crazy. I had to pick one up. The manager also let me know that they picked out a few more barrels for the store. Weller Full Proof, Buffalo Trace, and 1792 Reserve. I'll probably need all the above lol.

Technically it’s not pappy but it’s a good find if you paid the right price....
Just killed a WLW ‘17 |

Last night had my first pour of Old Ezra 7 Year. Good, but probably only buy a bottle if the price was right.
Got another bottle of Knob Creek Cask Strength for VD, and picked up a couple more Elijah Craig Barrel Proofs…. B519 and C919. |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I had that Stagg Jr a couple days ago....good stuff. I'll keep you guys in the loop if I can get my hands on any extra bottles. They'll be releasing them just a bottle or two at a time from what I understand.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Seeing bottles of EC Barrel Proof pop back up on the shelves, B519 and C919. I have the B but I may go back and pick up a bottle of the C, still holding out hope for a bottle of Larceny BP but they seem pretty nonexistent around here, apparently the biggest shipment to any store in CO was 6 bottles and most places only got one

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
A buddy just dropped of a bottle of Eagle Rare off. Yumm!
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Ben, I like the C better than the B. Which is relative because I like the B a lot.
Have a bottle of A120 in the que as well. Ray, hope you can find some more Stagg, would love to try the latest batch. :dr Steve, can't go wrong with the ER. :tu |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've got a big bottle of ER that I haven't drank on in a while, may have to change that this weekend :D
Honestly I don't think it's anything super special, but it's a solid go-to that will never disappoint, that's hard to come by these days so I never hate on a staple |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I like the Eagle Rare too, but gravitate towards higher proof bourbons mostly these days. Think I've got 1-2 pours left, might have to restock when I see it under $35.
Today's arrival... I know it won't come close to what Ben is opening tonight, but I'm pretty pleased. I've had good luck with the other 2019 releases, and this is the highest proof one of them all. https://i.imgur.com/8irfIJ5.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZNGLej1.jpg |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Went out to a nice dinner Saturday night, looked behind the bar and they had some very interesting looking bottles so I asked for the whiskey menu. I was surprised how "reasonable" most of the prices were, especially for being a semi fancy spot downtown (other than the $100/oz for pappy 20) so I ended up buying an ounce of William Larue Weller after the meal. It wasn't as life changing as I was hoping, and Tom's going to kill me but I thought it was slightly too hot (I believe 128 proof). I added a splash of water to it which improved it, but based on everything I've heard I thought it was going to be more of an eye opener. They also had GTS for the same price and if I was hanging out longer that would have been my next pour, but the food was fantastic so I bet I could convince Sarah to go again and this time I'll skip the cocktail (old fashioned with ER barrel pick) and go for the straight stuff
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Never had the WLW, Ben, but not surprised that you think it may be a little overrated. But I'd still give it a try if I was at a place that served it at a reasonable price. I'll be interested in hearing how the Stagg is when you return.
So did you crack the celebration bottle for the Shrine, or did that get pushed back by the outing? |

Had a celebratory pour of pappy 12, not a newly opened bottle but haven't had any in a while |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've also been leaning towards the higher proofs these days, but the Eagle Rare was kind of a nice change this weekend, although I was hitting a couple of Bottled in Bond 100 proofers along the way.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Since Sarah bought me the WLW I let her try a taste, she could barely get it to her lips before the ethanol got to her. The only whiskey she's ever really loved was Macallan Rare Cask we got for free at an event a year or two ago, I looked up the ABV and it's 86 proof, no wonder 128 was a bit hot :r
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Went out to another place downtown for dinner last night (restaurant week) and they had a similar whiskey menu as the place over the weekend... but about $10 more per ounce of the good stuff. I got a beer instead and when I got home decided to open up my bottle of Bookers Country Ham. Finally a high proof (124.7) bourbon that I really enjoyed neat, only had a small pour of it but I think I'll be having another after work today :al
