Its a good thing the scoring had changed this year or he would have put up about 150 pts:sl:sl:sl

Soo....what was different about the touchdown that Victor Cruz just caught and the Calvin Johnson incompletion earlier today??? Just thought that, even though it helped my fantasy team and the Vikings, it was a terrible call. The rule makes sense that you have to control the ball to the ground on a touchdown catch...but if you catch the ball then dive towards the end zone and cross the plane that's a touchdown. Rant complete.

I saw the Cruz catch. I just hunted up the Megatron catch.
Cruz had full control of the ball, made a "football move", crossed the plane, and the ground kicked the ball out.
Since he had control the whole time, it was a td when he broke the plane.
Now, in the Calvin video, they said he didn't have control. If you don't have control all the way to the ground, and ALSO retain control once you hit the ground, it's not a td.
At full speed it sure looked like Megatron had all kinds of control, but I'm looking at a grainy video with no replay.
The issue between the two plays is control and what constitutes it.
Cruz definitely had control, Megatron supposedly didn't.

Now, there's sort of a second part to this rule. Or maybe another way of looking at part of it.
A wide receiver must complete the catch after breaking the goal line for a touchdown to count, but a running back doesn't have to complete the run for it to count as a score. He just needs to break the plane.
That goes a step further.
Once a WR has made the catch in the field of play, he's now a runner, and for all intents and purposes (regarding this rule), a running back.
Same thing here. Cruz had control in the field of play, turned into a runner, crossed the plane, play done, td. The ground doesn't come in play.
Calvin just plain didn't have control all the way to and including the ground (again, supposedly cause I can't see it), so his catch isn't affected by this part of the rule at all. It's just an incomplete pass.

Lots of words for an incomplete pass, eh? :)
Hope that helps, Matt!!! :tu

I agree with Matt on this one. Watching it in slow mo, Calvin caught the ball with both hands and dove for the end zone. Pretty much exactly the same as Cruz. The ball bobbled a bit upon touching the ground (after crossing the goal line), but remained in his possession, whereas Cruz completely lost possession of the ball upon contact with ground. As a Vikes fan, I was happy to accept it as an incomplete pass at the time. As a fan of football in general, it was a terrible call. Especially given that the same exact situation was called the opposite way later in the day.

Re: Fourth Annual Fantasy Football for Stakes and the Troops

Week 1 bet results:
Mike vs. Matt- Mike owes 5
Mike vs. Mark- Mike owes 5
Mike vs. Shilala- Mike owes 5
Mike vs. Scott- Mike owes 5
Mike vs. Cole- Cole owes 5
Mark vs. Tony- Mark owes 5
Cole vs. Shilala- Cole owes 10

At final tally for week one, we have Mike paying up 20 troop stick, Cole paying 15, and Mark paying 5.

Let me know if I'm missing anything!

chaase321 09-10-2013 11:04 AM

Re: Fourth Annual Fantasy Football for Stakes and the Troops

That's what I come up with too Matt.

And here are the betting balances to date:

Shilala has 125 sticks betting balance
Cole owes 9 sticks
Sofaman has 24 sticks betting balance
Matt has 69 sticks betting balance
Mark has 9 sticks betting balance
Malakai has 35 sticks betting balance
Tony has 21 sticks betting balance
Travis has 2 sticks betting balance
Coach owes 20 sticks
Jarrod has 0 betting balance

Still need entry sticks from:
Matt (Prize entry only)
Jarrod (Prize and Troops)
Coach (Prize and Troops)

Just so everyone knows...when you sent me your entry smokes, I deducted 6 troops sticks from however many you sent to denote as "troops entry" and then used your balance as "betting sticks" So that is how I came up with the above.

Note* Matt, just so you remember, you owed 25 from last year, so that's why your's is at 69 and not 94.

I have an excel spreadsheet if anyone wants to audit me :D :tu

Thanks, Cole. I need to pick up a new printer cartridge to print the usps label to get my entry sticks to you. Should be able to get it done tomorrow.

Shilala...how about 10 troop sticks on this weeks matchup?

What's wrong, you only bet guys you know you can whoop up on?!? :r

Sure thing...how about this one:

Your Best QB and WR combined score against my best QB and WR combined score?

Those two look pretty even.

That made me lol for real, Cole. :D

chaase321 09-16-2013 04:44 AM

Re: Fourth Annual Fantasy Football for Stakes and the Troops

Alright Shilala...looks like we may need to talk this over :D

My bet said "your BEST QB and WR combined score, against my BEST QB and WR combined score"

Well...that means this could go two ways:
1. Your Best Starters
QB (Wilson) 10.98 + WR (Jackson) 42.30 = 53.28

1. My Best Starters
QB (Vick) 41.22 + WR (Jackson) 12.7 = 53.92

I win scenario #1 by the hair on my chinny chin chin

2. You Best Overall (including bench)
QB (Cutler, Bench) 18.50 + WR (Jackson) = 60.8

2. My Best Overall (including bench)
QB (Vick) 41.22 + WR (Decker, bench) 17.70 = 58.92

You win scenario #2 by a few hairs on your chinny chin chin

So...since I didn't clarify as to starters or not when saying "best"...I would have to say, I lost to you yet again :sl

Hey all, want to apologize that I have been gone for the last few weeks. In that time I got married, went on the honeymoon, so I've been completely out of the loop. I look forward to get some bets going this upcoming week.

Got married!!! No wonder you stayed away from some of us married men :r we would have given you a nice :sl and advised otherwise :D

Nah, congrats brother, glad to hear everything is going well, we were starting to worry about you. Thanks for touching base and good luck with the bets...steer clear of Shilala though, I think he is cheating :gary

Re: Fourth Annual Fantasy Football for Stakes and the Troops

Congrats, Jarrod!

Looks like I lost 10 to Shilala...Cole you can figure out who won your bet with Scott...:D

It's week 3! Historically, I've bet everyone this week so I guess I'll do it again. You're all on. 5 of my troop sticks vs. 0 of yours. I pay 5 for anyone who outscores me this week. Good luck to all! (No need to "take" this bet...you can't lose)

shilala 09-17-2013 03:00 PM

Re: Fourth Annual Fantasy Football for Stakes and the Troops

Cole, I thought what you did. I'm gonna let you win this one, but only if you bet me 10 troop sticks this coming week, bet of your choice. Deal?

Sorry about the ass-whoopin, Matt. I wish I'd have saved some of that for our Super Bowl this year!!! :lr

I'll take all comers, bet-wise.
Mark, I'll bet you 10 sticks and spot you 11 points. That's roughly the difference in the week's projection, so we'll have an even slate. Anyone who wouldn't cover that bet needs to rush in for a mammogram.

On other bets, I really dig bizarre stuff. Cole's bet last week was cool. Heck, we could pick any two kickers in the league and highest combined score wins. Anything, and I mean, ANYTHING is cool with me. The more bizarre the better. :D

If you leave a note for them attached to the slip, with your signature and printed name they may leave it...that has worked for me a couple times in the past when signature was required.

I sure hope he won't leave it without a signature, not with insurance on it.
That'd be a crazy silly risk for Tony to take.
On the other hand, they'll deliver it to a neighbor that's home. I did UPS for awhile and we delivered Dell computers every single day. They all needed signature release. We left lots and lots at the old lady's house next door and left a note with the folks that bought it.
Leaving them outside for any reason, even a pre-sign, was not an option, even though UPS allows you to presign.
There's only 3 things we couldn't leave that over-rode the presign. Jewelry, Guns, and computers. Crazy, huh?
