I don't think the pitching staff can hold on to that many.

Catillo shows up a day late to Phillies camp. Hmmmm, seems his sh*tty playing wasn't the only thing the Mets released him for.

He even had the nerve to say that the Mets didn't give him a chance. Bye-Bye

Haha, just cigars :D but I think they got rid of some baggage and picked up a couple guys. Not having Santana hurts but barring injuries I think they have some good players and if they get on a roll early maybe they'll even make a trade for a second baseman. Like I said IF THEY STAY HEALTHY

I would take the Yankees Triple-A team over the Mets.

Not sure if that's a bad thing, I don't think it's real serious ( hopefully ) and now with Perez and Castillo gone he might have gotten the boos at CITI during introductions on opening day there

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Opening Day for us today!!!

Dear Mets Fans:

With our 2011 opener tonight in Florida, I want to make this pledge to Mets fans — our team will play the game the right way.

We will always hustle on the bases, run balls down in the outfield and never take anything for granted, no matter the score of the game.

We had a great Spring Training. From day one my message has been look ahead, not backward, and not to worry about what the people outside the clubhouse are saying. If we pitch and play defense like I know we can, we will surprise a lot of people, a lot of people.

I stack our lineup against anyone else's in the league. Getting Carlos Beltran back and hitting cleanup is really big. The way Carlos handled his move to right field was one of the classiest things I have ever seen. Angel Pagan is coming off a great season. While we had a little setback this week with Jason Bay — who was swinging the bat well — going on the Disabled List, he shouldn't be out too long. We believe with the three of them on the field, we have one of the top outfields in baseball.

Our infield is anchored by the two All-Stars on the left side: David Wright at third and Jose Reyes at short. I think David will add on to his numbers from last year and Jose is ready to have a tremendous season. He is one of the most dynamic players in the game. Ike Davis will continue to develop at first base and Jose Thole is one of the fine young catchers in the game. Brad Emaus, a Rule Five pick, got better and better as the spring went on and won the second base job.

On the mound, sure we are going to miss Johan Santana until he comes back, hopefully in mid-year. But this spring, I think we established a solid rotation with Mike Pelfrey, followed by R.A. Dickey and Jonathon Niese. Chris Young and Chris Capuano proved that they are healthy and they really strengthen us on the back end.

We remade our bullpen and we think we have quality arms who throw strikes to get to closer Francisco Rodriguez. K-Rod has just had a fantastic spring and I never have seen him throwing better. People like Bobby Parnell, D.J. Carrasco, Taylor Buchholz, Blaine Boyer, Tim Byrdak and Pedro Beato, another Rule V selection who is from Queens, will give us a solid pen.

I believe we have fortified our bench with the additions of Scott Hairston, Willie Harris, Ronny Paulino (who will begin the year on the Disabled List), and Chin-lung Hu along with Daniel Murphy.

It's been 12 years since I have started a season as a major league manager. I can't tell you how proud I am to be leading the New York Mets and am very excited about the season ahead.

Thanks for your support and see you at Citi Field.

Sincerely,

http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/v...ig_150x781.jpg

Terry Collins

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Dear Mets fans,

Sorry for the last letter, I know I was rambling but me and Ollie were on a real bender....man that guy is great, can't pitch worth a sh!t but fun to be around!...Anyway, Mr. Wilpon gave me an extra $50K to write that crap, seems he still has a boatload of cash from the Madoff deals he made (man, he rocks that "F the Poor" t-shirt his wife bought him in Boca)...But, me and Ollie hit it big in AC...let it all ride on "Red", as that'll be the color winning the NL Esat anyway...WooHoo, ol' Fred can shove it and I'll say what I really think...WE SUCK!....Omar screwed us up real good....Last I saw, can't win without pitching...or hitting...Please, though, do us a favor and cough up some big bucks to sit in those outrageously expensive seats behind home plate at Citi, makes us look bad on TV with those empty....

Hugs,
Terry Collins

It's gonna be a longgggggggggggggggg year.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

I think it's gonna be better than the last couple of years. They have a decent lineup and Pelf, Neise and Dickey will be alright. Just hope Young and Cap stay healthy. Collins will be better than Manuel and there's a smart G.M. Now ownership is a different story.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

2-2 in the bottom of the 7th. Wright has hit a dinger and Neise has looked good. Keeping fingers crossed.

K-Rod tries to give one away but Wright knocks in the winning run in the 10th. Sad thing is that K-Rod gets the win. .500!! :tu :tu

I don't think KROD blew a save all pre season, then his first shot and he blows it. Good win, just wish I was able to see it. :tu

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Mets take their first series of the season...surprised me. Bullpen looked good (except for K-Rods meltdown). Not sure they can hold it together all year. Offense scored some runs in the series...and the weekend's biggest producer...Willie Harris. Someone new each night. :tu :tu

I know they're over 2-1, but wow. I can't believe an SNY employee had the balls to work that bit into the broadcast.

I'm sure he won't be there for long, what a dumb ass. Good way to start the year by taking a series on the road. Last year it took till June to do that. Tuff series coming up in Philly. LETS GO METS :tu
