I just got home and saw this thread, and without even reading any of the posts, I have to say that Heath Ledger was gonna win, just cuz he kicked off in the middle of a "brilliant"(?) acting career.

I stopped watching the Oscars years ago, because it's just a big popularity contest for the most part (IMHO). Other than the technical awards, I don't think the awards have anything to do with actual merit of the actors or the movies themselves.

Actually, the tv show is just a vehicle to tell the young man's story. Each question brings up a facet of his life. It was a very good movie. I had a chance to see it this weekend before the awards. The only other movie on the list I had seen was Benjamin Button-which was a great movie and I was hoping it would win. To me a great movie is one I would see again and I don't think I would watch Slumdog again, but BB was just magical.

The Dark Knight is so grossly overrated. I'm not even being a hater: I went opening night, then saw it again with my father a few weeks later. I liked it. It was fun. But it wasn't even close to being perfect or "great," I don't care what imdb'ers say from their parents' houses.
