Finished off the EC Small Batch and picked up a bottle of Woodford Reserve and I've got my brother in law snagging some Weller Reserve and 107 for me.

Found a bottle of 107 at the grocery store by Klugs' house at Shack this year. Only bottle there, nd the guy said he put it on the shelf 5 minutes earlier. Same kinda luck for me with the first Blanton's. Now, if only I could stumble into some Weller FP or some George Stagg. :r

One of the local big stores had a single barrel release yesterday afternoon, people got there when they opened at 8 and waited 8 hours, I got there at 3:15 and waited 45 minutes, we both ended up with the same bottle of Weller Antique 107 (although the people a few behind us did not). I don't know if the "Single Barrel Select" is any different than the normal bottles - I think not and they probably just bought a barrel worth of the regular 107 - but I had a few glasses of it when I got home and it is delicious :al

They also had bottles of 1792 full proof and tomorrow will be selling off their barrel of Blanton's, but I don't think I'll be able to make it to that one :lv

Easy for you to say Mr. Retired :sl

I'm gonna try to make it it just doesn't seem likely. Also need to cut down on my spending, brought Sarah along last night so I could get two bottles of the 107, it wasn't that pricey per bottles but with 2 it really brought the total up, practically came out to twice as expensive

Seems to make sense. Ben. :lr

I know, I've semi got it made. But you never see Blanton's around here, I had to get a bottle from California. And for a barrel selection. Yeah, I'd call in with syphilis. :D

Well they changed the Blanton's release time from 4pm to 9:30am because on Tuesday their parking lot filled up with people waiting for bourbon and the regular customers couldn't park. No amount of syphilis could have gotten me there that early :(

I would have offered gonorrhea and scabies to up the ante! -(P

Last nights pour...maybe one decent pour left in the bottle. This is not one that I will replace.

Finally was able to check off two bucket list bourbons off the list this week to see if they were worth the hype, Weller 12 and Pappy 10 year. I haven’t been able to locate a bottle of either but happened to be lucky in two different places in two different states that had them at the bar. The Pappy was good but I really can’t see it being worth the secondary prices. The Weller 12 on the other hand, I’m in love with. Been trying for the last two years even without trying it to score a bottle and have looked high and low. Does anyone have a source of where I can score a bottle?

Thank you for the heads up. Just tried to order but it says a carrier won’t ship it to me, guessing because I live in Michigan? Have you had luck with that website?

I have never used it.....I just did a quick google search to look at the bourbons you tried and saw it listed.

I went back and looked and the shipping policies are really weird. Cheap prices on a hard to find bourbon, weird shipping policies.....think I'll pass.

Yea definitely seemed odd to me too. I’m hopeful someone around here knows of a place in Eastern Michigan that has it in stock.

Found a bottle of Weller 12 by accident, was out black friday beer shopping and didn't realize one of the stores was doing a whiskey sale, got there 15 minutes before they opened and was second in line, they only had two bottles, one per person

They show up on shelves from time to time, I've heard they're actually attainable locally on a regular basis if you're willing to pay $100+, I'm not interested in spending that much but if I see any more around closer to retail I'll let you know

Based on the absurd range of bottles at reasonable prices and the fact that they never take inventory/ship to anywhere, I'm going to assume it's a sham site. Fun to look through and day dream about though!

Yeah, when I saw Pappy 10, 15:su:tf, 20 and 23 year all in stock at decent secondary prices, I kinda thought the same, Ben.

Weller SR handle, old forester rye and EH Taylor last night

Found some bottles of Old Forester 1910 and 1920 for $55 each, deciding on if I want to go pick either up this afternoon, the 1920 sounds interesting

Is that the "Prohibition Style", Ben?

20 is prohibition style, 10 is "old fine whiskey." Have you had either? The 10 sounds more interesting (double barrel aged) but the higher proof on the 20 apparently brings out some really great flavors, and I feel like I probably shouldn't buy both

I have not. The 1920 peaks my interest and is on the short list to pick up.

Thank you. I went across into Windsor today and managed to score a bottle of Weller Select Reserve but unfortunately they were out of the 107 and 12. I would love to keep it as close to MSRP as possible but would consider a little bit over.

Picked one up on Tuesday as well as a few store pick bottles (BT, Elijah Craig and Knob Creek), once I crack it I'll let you know how it tastes :tu

On Wednesday had pours of a BT store pick, then weller 107 followed by sazerac rye. It was a nice group of whiskeys :al

It's wonderful, nice flavor and some good heat. Couple stores stocked with it here, at $69 which I believe is the MSRP? How much by you?

stearns 01-02-2020 10:13 AM

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Same, somewhere in the $70-75 range. I'll keep that in mind, I'm mainly sticking with bourbon for now other than a few cheaper rye pickups. Whiskey has been my go to liquor for years but only recently did I start actually paying attention to what I drank, so I'm trying to build my knowledge base up and pay closer attention to mash bills and ages and other stuff to really dial in on what I prefer, or at least have a better idea of what to pour when I'm in the mood for a certain profile

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

I'm pretty much in the same position, Ben, maybe a bit behind you in the grand scheme of things. I am a big fan of the cayenne heat I get from some higher proof ryes though.

Went to a new-to-me cigar bar on Saturday, not the best bourbon selection but I did have a pour of Russel's 10 and the Russel's Rye 6. I think the 10 was as vanilla as I have ever tasted in a bourbon, really enjoyed it. The 6 was good as well but not as stand outish

Haven't had the most experience with wheateds either other than a few types of Weller, which I'm a huge fan of and of course plenty of makers mark over the years. I've heard good things about Larceny as well, that one is on my list to try next time I see it out
