KS was a little late getting SN Ruthless Rye IPA, but I finally got ahold of a 12pk today.
It will be my SuperBowl beer if I can keep my hands off of it until then! |

Re: beer hauls
Dave, do you know if they shipped some cases of the CW BBB down to Chicagoland?
I can't believe it but my local beer store still has a few cases of CW BBS. I may have to pick up one more before they're gone. |

Came upon a six pack of Ale Asylum Ballistic (IPA)
http://aleasylum.com/wp-content/uplo.../ballistic.png and a six pack of Ale Asylum Satisfaction-Jacksin (DIPA) http://aleasylum.com/wp-content/uplo...on-jacksin.png Heard good things about Ale Asylum. Really looking forward to diving into these two taste treats. |
Re: beer hauls
From left to right:
DFH Noble Rot (one for me and one for Tony:tu) Cigar City/Bruey Collaboration - Dos Costas Oeste - Lemon wood aged (2) Cigar City/Bruey Collaboration - Dos Costas Oeste - Grapefruit wood aged Cigar City/Bruey Collaboration - Dos Costas Oeste - Cedar wood aged Pugsley (cat not beer) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6...281ab6f2_z.jpg We'll be tasting these on Monday night as part of a smaller tasting group. I'm going to bring a bottle of Sauternes to try along side the DFH Noble Rot to see how it compares to the "classic" Botrytis/Noble Rot wine (not saying the beer should taste like wine, but just to see how they did getting the classic noble rot flavors into the beer). The CCB/Bruery beers should be interesting, they are 9% ABV "saisons" aged on spirals of the described wood. We got to try the cedar aged one a few months ago at a tasting, to say it was intensely flavored would be putting it mildly, we'll see how its shaped up. :tu |

Just visited Marietta's new growler store and came home with a 64oz growler of ST 2xIPA and 32oz growler of Lenny Big Eddy Stout. Having a growler store within walking distance of the house might prove useful and a problem all at the same time :D

Re: beer hauls
Nice, good to see 2012 Bigfoot is hitting now. I've got a 6 pack left from last year I've been sitting on to age. I'll hide some 2012 in the cellar too.

Re: beer hauls
Went to Wholefoods the other day (one of the few supermarkets in my area that sells alcohol BTW) and picked up a couple of special beers for the Super Bowl.
First: Collaboration No. 2 White IPA a beer made by both Boulevard Brewing and Deschutes. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/68746 Second: Wachusett Larry an excellent Imperial IPA put out by a local brewery. I really wish I could get this beer in a 6-pack. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20/51428 |

Re: beer hauls
Drank a bottle of the King Henry last night. I'll be honest, I didn't care for that one as much. Great quality it just didn't appeal to my palate as much.

Maybe if I was able to get more special release SN I'd enjoy them more. The regular lineup is not bad by any means though. |

Also agree with CWS and would add if your just trying the style to try one that is not barrel aged. English style Barleywine, like a vintage Brooklyn's Monster Ale, provide great complexity that is not obscured by the barrel aging contribution. Also, maybe try and American style, some incredible one's out there as well; again maybe not barrel aged. It's funny to me as I love barrel aged beers in general; and while I have enjoyed some barrel aged Barleywine's I mostly prefer them to not have been. But that may be just me. |
