Re: Cigar Bid
Congrats Jared and welcome to the slippery slope

Re: Cigar Bid
I just applied some rudimentary math skills.....I don't have enough room in my humidor!
I guess I will just have to get another humidor...or cooler..or or start the wineador...I suppose there's worse problems to have in life...:) |
Re: Cigar Bid
Dangit...won some Ashton VSGs, Graycliff 1666s, and Oliva G Maduros. Must disable the account....

Re: Cigar Bid
OK I shouldn't have signed up late week but I now have two "wins" under my belt and have been out bid on a fiver of Tats and a fiver of RP Edges! After getting out bid on the Edges I up'ed my bid on some Graycliff Turbos LE's for the win.
Problem, next month we're taking our semi annual trip to central America and I'd like to reserve some room in my humidore! |
Re: Cigar Bid
I can't go on the site anymore...too much temptation. I have over a 100 sticks waiting for me in the US that are likely to cost me 5$/stick to get over to Singapore. Even with that it's WAY cheaper if you can believe it.
I may need some help with the ones I bought for you guys to tell me if they are worth bringing and spending the $5 for although I tried to get what most here had recommended. |
Re: Cigar Bid
last minute snipe....that makes 99 cigars coming my way soon! I gotta stop this maddness.....off to cigar sprint I guess....:D

Re: Cigar Bid
I can personally thank you guys for introducing me to CBid! I a bid on a nice 150ct glass top humi (still waiting and hoping on that one), just won an 18 sampler Gurkha and have a few other bids here and there on some Opus (don't expect to win those). When just starting out in this hobby it seems very easy to want to order EVERYTHING all at ONCE! LoL. I have to practice self control and figure out a way to explain how cigars showed up in our mailbox soon LoL :sl

Many, many newbs to both cbid and cigars can tell you that they won plenty of Gurkhas there...and most of us regret it to a large extent. And, I think you'll also find that Opus is one of the few cigars that routinely go for much more than you can find retail -- with a little sleuthing |
Re: Cigar Bid
Really?? That's very interesting...I was hoping those would be a good haul since I have looked over many posts and peeked in your humi's by way of "show us your humi" thread and always saw a couple Gurkha's in there. I need to head over to Tampa Humidor since I live right here in Tampa. They always have an awesome selection (bought some cigars/humis for my groomsmen back before I was really interested in cigars...funny..I know..and now I envy them since they have humis and I dont!) and their lounge/bar is exceptional. I guess that's what I get for buying before asking the Guru's over here! What should I be looking for? All I have at home are some Ybor City Cigars and La Pearla Dominicana's that I picked up in the DR on my honeymoon (10 in total)

Re: Cigar Bid
Hem, I think that to some degree it depends on 'quality' of your pallet. Mine sucks. Took many years to get to point I am now.
You'll see Gurkhas in my humis, too. Three different paths; some left over from early cbid binges where I bought the hype; some (two?) that I found that I actually enjoy when I can 'steal' them on cbid, and some that arrived via bombs - from other poor botl's who got duped, I guess. They get ripped pretty bad on forums, but I think they have their place. If you have any confidence in your pallet, pick up two or three of something that experienced brothers here are largely happy with - not something released in last 6 months -- that excitement can evaporate -- let others chase LE's. But try a brown label Tat or an Illusione....and see if your taste coincides at all with what you might have read in a favorable review. |
Re: Cigar Bid
When my wife asks me "Did you order more cigars?" I just say "Yeah, but look how much money I saved you." and that makes it all better, for now!

Re: Cigar Bid
And/or if you're like me and spending a lot of your early days at cbid because the allure of searching for the perfect $3 cigar is strong....then, I guess another approach is also worth your attention.....check out the cheap cigar thread on this forum and seek out some singles and 5ers from those recommended by brothers here

Re: Cigar Bid
Hey you guys, when using Cbid, use this tactic:

Re: Cigar Bid
I have had many of the Gur's in my humidors, most got from C-bid. They have always been worth the $1.00- $1.50 that I have paid for them.
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Welp they can start aging and be for guests and myself since I have nothing else to smoke in the new 150ct humidor I just picked up on Cbid! LoL :noon
|
Re: Cigar Bid
When you all get your packages in from c-bid I wouldn't mind (as I am sure many brothers wouldn't) seeing pictures of your hauls! When I get the box, or bundle I won (can't remember which it is coming in as) I will throw a pic up.
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Geez... I just opened my first account with cigar bid about 2 hours ago and have already won (2) 150 count humidors and about to win 3 more 20 ct humidors. The 150 ct humidors are identical to the ones I already own but got them for 1/2 the price I spent on the others and shipping included. I am hooked already! Wife is gonna give me some nasty looks this week!
|
Re: Cigar Bid
I haven't even bought anything from Satan's Shop yet, and I've already started buying things mentally...
Uh-oh... |
Re: Cigar Bid
^Thats where it starts. I will be in the middle of class and start mentally planning what to buy, where it will fit, and when I will have the extra cash for it.. Slippery slope indeed.
|
Re: Cigar Bid
"I want that Gurkha 5'er, that Fuente 5'er, that VS 5'er, that RP 5'er, well at this point I'm going to need another humidor. I don't like that humidifier or hygrometer, so I'll just order a crystal humidifier and a digital hygrometer. Wow! Look at that cutter! Gotta have that..."
That, plus about another half hour, was my exact thought process earlier... :dr |
Re: Cigar Bid
I'll definitely throw some pics up when my little haul comes in...now that you mention it...I will need a digi hygrometer in the new humi I just won....bbl haha :tu

Re: Cigar Bid
lol... yup it's addicting indeed... just had to get another stinky jr, 2 Xikar lighters to go with my 5 new humidors! I am having a blast tonight. Smoked a Romeo Y Julieta Reserve Maduro double toro and just lit up a Short Story after I made my Crown Royal and diet. What a wonderful life this is!
|
Re: Cigar Bid
I'll def throw some pics up. Looking at getting a coolidor going asap. Need to protect this investment!
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Just put the finishing touches on my coolidor a few moments ago. I threw a CPU fan in it to get some circulation going!

Did you need to cut into the cooler at all? |
Re: Cigar Bid
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Didn't make any cuts at all. Literally hot glued some cedar in, threw a few extra sheets in the bottom. Ran the fan wire through the back of the lid, and hot glued the fan in place, cigars, humi care jars, badda bing, badda boom.
Your talking about a wine-a-dor or a vinotemp. A coolidor uses literally a cooler. It's much cheaper, and from what I have seen does the same thing. It is by far the best "bang for your buck". But it sure isn't the prettiest. |
Re: Cigar Bid
Nice one, Colin!
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Thanks man, I am waiting on a box to be shipped in from c-bid, and tomorrow at work I will probably pick up a few more to throw in there.
|
Re: Cigar Bid
I was considering buying some boxes and doing this myself.
You can get something like 10 empty cigar boxes from Thompson Cigar for like 20 bucks. Was thinking about getting those and actually lining the inside of the cooler for pure aesthetic reasons. |
Re: Cigar Bid
I get them for next to nothing at work. Alot of brothers don't even bother with lining, and just use the boxes cedar. I am sure either way works perfectly.
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Well, I have a design background, so things have to LOOK right for me.
I'm sure a setup like yours would be absolutely functionally sound, but as classy as cigar smoking is, I figure it should look classy, yeah? |

Re: Cigar Bid
Sure, I have a nice wood humidor that everyone that wants a cigar sees, I keep stocked with singles, and basically on display.. But a coolidor is a great way to store boxes and bulk items and not have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars.
|
Re: Cigar Bid
Well that and I really enjoy working with my hands, followed by a celebration cigar, of course.
