Re: Cigar Photography
What lens are you using, Brooks? That is an incredibly narrow DOF. I love it!

Re: Cigar Photography
I don't have my DSLR anymore, but here's a pic I took with my rebel xt using a sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 macro/telephoto. I wish I still has it, so I could take some really good cigar pics!

Re: Cigar Photography
Nice, Chris! I had that same lens for my old Rebel (read: film). I loved it. Super sharp. But, when I went digital, it wouldn't make the transition. *sigh*

A higher iso usually causes noise. You can put it into manual mode and adjust the f stop and shutter speed to compensate for a low iso. Iso is how sensitive the camera is to light. The higher the number, the brighter the pic |

Nice shots/stash Dan!

Re: Cigar Photography
Bokeh is that blurring effect that you get past the point of focus. Also called depth of field. Macro does a great job of creating that narrow depth of field on point and shoot cameras. Unfortunately it only works on the close up shots.

Re: Cigar Photography
OK, for the illusione eccj pic I took....
It says the ISO was 800. The f was 3.2. Exposure time was 1/20 of a second. 6mm focal length. I don't know if that is good or not. Give me some advice if I should change one of those values and I will re-try the shot. |

Re: Cigar Photography
I took this shot the other day while walking teh dag. Notice the out of focus fore ground and back ground. The out of focus back ground is what is called Bokeh.

Re: Cigar Photography
Unfortunately, my Macro isn't as good as you guys' newer point and shoots. I really need a new one. I'm still not in focus in this pic. I would still have to come back a little bit.
f/2.8, shutter speed 1/20, ISO 100, no flash. My advice is to play around with the settings so you figure out first hand what each setting does. I usually keep the ISO low unless I can't get a good exposure without raising it. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...gars/006-2.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...gars/006-3.jpg |

Re: Cigar Photography
On my Macro shots, I usually keep my AV around F11 or so. I always shoot in M and RAW. Here's a couple other shots I've done in Macro.
