I'll switch gears here for a second to say, after being convinced the Avs would take Seth Jones with the #1....I now think it will be MacKinnon. I think the history of D men taken at #1 gives them cold feet.

First text I got after that game last night(copy/paste) "Toews was picked 3rd the year Erik Johnson was picked 1st overall...tell that to anyone wondering why Avs soured on picking Seth jones first overall. "

Of course that is pretty anecdotal, but it gets the point across...

Watching post game on NHL Network looking for the Hog in the crowd. Not sure but I think I saw him wearing a red jersey. Lot of ugly dudes in the crowd so tough to tell.

Probably had on a really nasty lime green one.

Congrats to the Bruins on a great season, and to the guts of Patrice Bergeron.

Seeing the Cup skated in person...priceless. Bucket List complete.

Marc, Jesse, I was in and out of Boston, sorry I didn't have a chance to see anyone.

Re: NHL 2013 Thread

Patrice being basically useless the last two games doomed us, people don't realize what a huge part of the D he is as well as the top scorer, this is why hockey players truly are a breed apart, broken rib, torn cartilage and a for the last game a partially separated shoulder. Damn skippy.

Wow just read Patrice is in the hospital still with a punctured lung.

Horton dislocated his shoulder during OT of game one and played the entire series ..

Even Jagr who's pretty much been known as a self-centered prima dona, really stepped up for the Bruins in the playoffs and went with the team first mentality doing whatever was asked of him (*even if he was a bit slow on changes a couple times), he was hurting the last game as well and kept going back in, I have a feeling 20 years ago he never would have considered playing hurt.

Oh well there's always next year ;)

p.s. told you Rask sucks :r

Hossa has a herniated disc and can't feel his right foot for two weeks.
Bickell a grade 2 MCL sprain.
Toews hides his concussion symptoms.
Handzus broken wrist and torn MCL.

Lots of banged up guys by the Finals every year. kudos to Bergeron for trying in Games 5 and 6, he's a warrior. But both teams had some significant injuries to deal with.

And Crawford does not suck anymore, much to my delight.

....and unlike last time, Tom, the 'Hawks sounds like the 'Hawks will most likely look close to the same when trying to defend the Cup.

GO AVS!

My goalie hoisted the Stanley Cup.

Def wasn't trying to compare or make excuses, I was just shocked that he actually played with a broken rib and and torn cart.

Yes that time of year it's the walking dead, I meant hockey players were a breed apart as in all hockey players, not just the Bs.

No doubt, and I still give huge kudos to Bergeron, I don't know how he even played a shift in Game 6 with a punctured lung, much less 17 minutes....Warrior.

On a more important note, my boyfriend Vincent Lecavalier is a free agent on July 5th. Predictions?

I'd love for him to go to the Red Wings and play with Datsyuk, but I think the Canadiens will make the strongest push.

I would hope Vinnie wouldn't put that kinda pressure on himself, Montreal has pretty brutal expectations. I dunno, maybe he would like the challenge.

Exactly. Nobody wants that contract and the sucks are likely unwilling to eat any of it as I am sure they are near the cap so they will keep trying to find someone.

Re: NHL 2013 Thread

Hawks resign Bickell for 4 years at 4 million annually. He will have a lot of pressure to keep up the momentum he started with the 2013 playoffs.

Hawks have about 9 million in cap space left, not sure if they will target a bigger name UFA or just hold the money in anticipation of new contracts for Toews and Kane in 2014.

Re: NHL 2013 Thread

It would be great to see Toews and Kane continue to play with each other. Just great hockey opposite Crosby and Geno.

Not a good market this year either. Question for D is will Filppula who it looks like they were going to try to replace with Vinny now leave. Looks like another bad off season for the D. Soery Mike got to poke you as you leave for the east.

in cap trouble without a goalie. At least my Isles have plenty cap space but, sadly also no goalie.

I can't believe Garth Snow could not get Schnieder (sp) for Nino and the 15th.

I do think Cal will be a good fit on LI. Nino is a real prima dona so good luck with that. He can be a truly special player if he changes his attitude.

Holy crap blockbuster Bruins / Stars trade today! I can't believe we gave up on Tyler Seguin so fast. Bruins end up with some cap relief and some young prospects.

Boston Bruins Get
Loui Eriksson
Reilly Smith
Matt Fraser
Joe Morrow

Dallas Stars Get
Tyler Seguin
Rich Peverley
Ryan Button

mk05 07-04-2013 03:01 PM

Re: NHL 2013 Thread

Seguin belonged in the Red Wings anyway. Oh well, he regressed thanks to the crappy coaching the past several years. Hopefully we'll see a more focused Seguin.

Several years? He's only been in the league a couple of years, they also haven't had him playing his natural position more than a hand full of games here and there.

He's still a young kid who has plenty of room to grow.

As far as the trade from this Bruin fan point of view, hate to see him go but the one position they are packed at is center, he was the center that produced the least, the Bs also pick up a ton of room under the cap.

The really need to address right wing with no Jagr and possibly no Horton.

icehog3 07-04-2013 03:38 PM

Re: NHL 2013 Thread

The Bruins fans should like Erikkson, he is a true goal scorer. They freed up some cap space as well for some of the UFAs they want to re-sign. I was suprised as well, but the Bruins might end up the better for it.

The kid was a party animal, showing up three days straight hung over wearing the same clothes.
The team tried to talk to him... Thornton had a sit down with him to no avail.
To bad the guy has talent but no hockey IQ.
I wish him well maybe he will wake up and get his head on straight?

Re: NHL 2013 Thread

Just reminded me of a Harry Sinden blame and ship, he didn't score in the playoffs (hitting the post sadly doesn't count), but then again they got the cap relief and a half way decent player back (not to mention so prospects that may or may not turn into anything).
