I'm betting on an 8 games suspension. Mario will strip him of ever wearing an "A" again. Maybe even healthy scratch him for a while.

But banning for life? Nah. If Bertuzzi, McSorley, and Gillies can attack someone as brutally as they all did and still play in the league, then Matt "Flying Elbow" Cooke will still be playing.

Penguins won't waive him either, there are 29 other teams out there who would snatch a 15 goal, elite PK'er and laugh at the Pens for letting him go.

His punishment needs to be severe, but Matt Cooke ain't going nowhere.

(This is NOT a defense of Matt Cooke, simply stating my opinion on what I think will happen, and the reality of the NHL.)

Scott I can think of a few teams who's stars he cheapshot that wouldn't want him. Some people who's knees he wrecked maybe. Also some teams would likely be worried depending on the locker room makeup.

Tonight everyone in San Jose is a Blackhawk fan.

Good point. 25 teams would want him :)

Yeah maybe 10, 15max if they want to handle the increased scrutiny that will be on this guy now. He will be under a microscope for the remainder of his carrer. Be serious he is the flame that started all this headshot, blindshot GM meetings. All GMs called for longer suspensions on repeat offenders. They are trying to stop it. Who wants the blindshot headshot poster boy? Sorry but even Mario made himself the biggest hypocrite of the year when he tried to say word one about a team gooning it up. Watch the video Tom and I posted again. You think its a coincidence someone took a shot at Crosbys head Cooke style? Cherry even says this was going to happen in the video. It did. Who wants to subject their Stars to that danger. Averys not even that bad and Dallas waived him.

I can think of 6 teams who wouldnt be able to take him based on injuries and I can think of a lot of teams who I cant see him fitting into the roster. There are teams that may take him, but I think if you stop and think its a lot less then you are estimating. A lot of the teams that might take him have young locker rooms which creates a whole seperate discussion. High level teams why subject your star players to the retaliation attacks see Crosby, why subject your team image to the poster boy of cheap shots? I just dont see it.

One things for sure he will be getting yet another vacation this year. Hey didnt I say that would happen a week or two ago? :r

McSorley never played again in the NHL after the Brashear incident. I will be shocked if Gillies plays again in the NHL. But you are right about Cooke, he will probably get 8 or so.....which is a joke, they should give him the rest of the season off...INCLUDING playoffs. :2

Thats a pretty good slap.
Whats funny is the post game yesterday the Pens Coach had this crap what can I say attitude. Yup we were the ones jumping up and down about ending headshots that took out our star. Yup our repeat offender just did it again, will be suspended and cost us the game. Yup we look like huge hypocrites right now. :r That interview is epic talk about yeah we got caught with our pants down. Its going to be interesting if they keep Cooke.

Damn 220k for that hit. Bwahahahhaahhaahahahahahha well done Cooke. Next time just throw the money off a building atleast people will like you more for it.

Everyone is dealing with injuries Mike. Deep teams work through it and keep going.

Hawks lost Sharp and Bolland.

Sharks are down two Dman Huskins and Wallin and one of the best face off men in Nichol for weeks and just got Boyle back.

Canucks lost one of the best faceoff men in the league Malholtra for the year.

Everyone has injuries. Good teams work through it. All teams are dealing with issues.

Dastyuk, Franzen, Hudler, Bertuzzi and Osgood are out. We just got Rafalski back, thank God, and Stuart is just off of the liquid food thanks to a broken jaw. I really hope Babcock is resting at least a couple of them for the playoffs rather than more serious issues.

Did he just. Unreal.

Marleau Bails his team out 2x in a few minutes. Including bailing out the Captain who took a really stupid peanlty that gave the Kings the lead. That was so bad by Thorton. You are the Captain and you take an absolutely brainless penalty like that with a few minutes left after Marleau just ties the game? Wow so bad by Thorton.

Good thing there are no shootouts in the playoffs. Still dont like the idea of the Sharks matching up against the Kings in the playoffs they play them really well. Still Sharks currently tied with the Wings in points, but Wings have a game in hand. Would be interesting if they beat them out by a point.

I have never seen Montreal roll over and play dead like this before in 50+ years of watching the Bruins and the NHL. Marchand might be taking a few days off for his hit at the end of the game though.

Sharks might catch them if we stay on this current losing streak :td If there are no more SO games for either team and they end up tied, Wings have the tiebreaker.

I can't believe the Habs got killed last night. I thought it would be way tighter.

Crosby, Malkin, Orpik, Comrie, Letestu, Jeffery, Tangradi. Large chunks of the year without Staal, and others injured for many games: Asham, Kunitz Martin...

I think that depends on how things end up exactly. If the records are a dead match the sharks won 3 of 4 from the Wings. They have the wins advantage over them and based on that would take the 2nd spot. Wings aren't so much on a losing streak as playing 500 hockey. Sharks were red hot, but have slowed also. Both teams will be playing desperate teams on the bubble. The kings lastnight were a perfect example. Wings playing a desperate Hawks team 3 times could be bad. Its going to be fun, but I think 1-3 are locked up. Sorry Tom I don't think the Hawks will overtake for second or third. 4th.

No need to be sorry, I agree that it's unlikely the Hawks will move that high unless somehow they take 3 of 3 in regulation from the Wings....not bloody likely.

5 teams battling for the last 4 spots in the West now that Calgary looks like toast. Who will be the odd team out?

Re: NHL '10 - '11 Thread

From ESPN.com

Quote:

TIEBREAKER
In the event teams are tied in the standings, the following tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding.

1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won (not including games won in a shootout).
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. Goal differential.
So games won not including SO wins comes before games won between the teams. Sharks have 5 SO wins while the Wings have 4.

Hossa's first goal against the Wings since he left and it is the game winner in OT :td I have mixed feelings on Z's hooking penalty with less than a minute to go to prevent a 2 on 1. Sure it stopped them from winning in regulation but it gave the Hawks a PP to start OT. Which led to the Hossa goal.

That first period was so slow! 6 penalties and Bertuzzi gets tossed. He'll probably get suspended as he led with his elbow. Thought Bertuzzi's size played a part in Ryan Johnson getting hit in the head. Johnson's head is basically at Berts elbow :r Glad to see Johnson didn't get seriously hurt, and returned to the game later.

But like you said, Son, it stopped them from winning in regulation. They can't "not call" a blatant penalty because overtime is looming. :)

I am not so sure Berschmoozi will get suspended, and I won't be angry if he is not. Dumb decision to turn and make the hit skating backward, but I don't think he meant to drill Johnson's head the way he did. I guess we have to leave it to the "experts".
