The Double Oaked just came out this month so if you can't find it locally it should still be making its way around the US.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've been a fan of three of the five Woodford Reserve Master's Collection. I never saw 2011's offerings, which I now find out were not bourbon's at all, but were two different Rye whiskeys. I'll have to check around for them next time I'm in Georgia or Tennessee (Alabama's ABC board does not have them on their "allow" list, so they never make it to us cheap, Jack D swilling rednecks!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Picked up a bottle of elijah craig 18 yr. It is fantastic! Its smoth, round, bold, and complex. Very good stuff.

Scored two (three, actually) that I've been looking for. These came into McScrooged in Knoxville today. Glad I was in town to grab one of each.
The Woodford Reserve Double Oak and the two-bottle Woodford Master's Collection from 2011; two different Rye whiskeys in one package. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Damn Cliff, Nice score :tu
I saw those ryes a few months back, was tempting but I didn't have any reviews or feedback on them at the time. Let me know what you think on both of those, the Double Oak is on the buylist for sure. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I had to charge the Rye, won't really have the money for them til next week. But I was afraid if I passed up on them, I would not find them again! Neither of these are (and probably will never be) available in Bama, so I pretty much have to grab these special items any time I find them! It will probably be a month before I finish the two bourbons I have open, so it will be a while til I try these to give a review! That doesn't mean I wont' buy seconds if I find them and have the money! Not many Woodfords I've tried that I didn't love!!
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
That is very true, you make an excellent point. Perhaps if I see the Ryes again they will get Purchased.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Is anyone going to the Bourbon Sampler at the end of this month in Bardstown, Kentucky? All of the major distilleries are represented. It is a great opportunity to taste samples of currently available bourbon and meet some of the Master Distillers. It is also a great opportunity to meet other bourbon enthusiasts.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
This year, the private group of which I am a member will be visiting Buffalo Trace Distillery, Four Roses Distillery, Heaven Hill Distillery, and Kentucky Bourbon Distillers to taste and select our own barrels of bourbon. Last year we selected 4 barrels. The selection process is quite interesting and fun.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Sounds awesome. Have a fun and safe trip.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I will be visiting a distillery in Nantucket this summer that makes a bourbon. Called Nor'Easter Bourbon. Being from KY, I think bourbon made outside of KY is blasphemy :r
Going to see whats its like though. Edit: Some quick research says its might be distilled at heaven hill and aged two years in KY, then aged two more years on Nantucket. Hmmm |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I finished the bottle of bourbon I've been working down. I decided tonight to open the Woodford Reserve Double Oak I picked up last week.
People, this is NOT your everyday Woodford!!!! I'm drinking it straight-up, which is my normal method of sippin bourbon. Initial taste on my lips and front of tonge was much sweeter than I would have guessed. Then, as the whiskey flows back, it developed a sting and bite on the back of my mouth like it is 100+ proof (90 proof). The double oak finish on this bourbon manifest itself with an expected smoky taste that is much closer to the smoky peat taste of good scotch! This bourbon goes through half a dozen changes on each sip. While I don't usually use ice or water, I'd think this bourbon would be even more complex if a single cube of ice was added. I'd buy this one again, if I run across it. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Thanks for the review. Will look for it when I am back in KY in May.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I ran across this in a Vermont liquor store and am a big fan.
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/2665/cabinfever.jpg It is sweet, but not overly so. Over ice it has a VERY smooth, very drinkable quality that just seems to beg for one more sip. Their web site is http://www.cabinfeverspirits.com/ |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Just picked up a 1.75L of Eagle Rare 10 year old for $37.99.
I feel like I stole it. :lv |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Poured myself 2 fingers of Corner Creek Bourbon tonight and floated a nice size ice cube in it. I think that added a bit more sweetness and smoothness to this brand. Drinking it neet, the bourbon has more depth and density. Really enjoying this bourbon. Thanks again to Peter (Pnoon) for turning me on to this brand:tu

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've worked the Woodford Reserve Double Oak down to maybe 3 sittings. I'll probably finish it off this weekend. I'd finish it on the 4th, but I won't be at home, and the friends we will be spending the holiday with will have lots of family over that do not drink, so I'll hold the finish over for a few days.
This leaves the question of what to open next. I'm leaning towards the Woodford Reserve Master's collection Rye from this year. That way, if I really like it, I can look for some more before it disappears for good off the shelves! |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
found a bottle of Woodford Reserve Sanoma Cutler buried on a shelf today. Super Stocked. Only missing the original masters now.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Hey,
I was out in the field today in Glendale, CA and decided to stop by this fairly nice looking liquor store after completing my last inspection. Checking out the bourbon section of their good stuff located behind the cash register, I noticed there was two bottles of George T. Stagg, 71.5% abv/143 proof. The price per bottle is $124.99. I know there was some interest in this brand and some of you where a wishing. If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll give you the local telephone number and name for this liquor store located in Glendale, CA... :tu |

There was a small store in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee that was off River Road (vs Main Street). The owner had half a dozen bottles at home in his personal stash. I'd tried to talk him out of one a couple years ago, but no luck. Then, last year, the property owner sold out, they tore down the small retail center and the fronting property on Main Street, and were in process of some big project. I have no idea where the store went, or even if it re-opened anywhere. Which is a shame, cause I feel sure I could have talked him out of one bottle (with a decent high offer). I paid right at $100 per bottle on the three I originally purchased. Wish I'd put one back, now! But, seriously, if you run across several bottles, and don't want them all, I'd be very interested in acquiring one or more of the Four Grain!! |

There is a new stop on the Bourbon Trail. Town Creek Bourbon. Small batch distiller. Haven't seen it anywhere, Better keep my eyes open!! Anyone here had Town Breek?
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Do you mean Town Branch? I haven't heard of Town Creek.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Has anyone tried the Breaking and Entering bourbon? I am not much of a bourbon fan.. but I liked it better than the woodford. The B&E Bourbon is made here in California in Alameda with, supposedly, vintage casks acquired from Kentucky.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
My bourbon collection disappeared last night. By "collection" I mean the last part of a bottle of Bulleit Rye. LOVE this stuff. Weird thing was, I did not feel the least bit intoxicated, and I probably drank a little under a quarter of a bottle. :sh
