there is a company on ebay that will replace the chip for ~$100 but the a100 is the first DSLR that Sony made and I doubt I will make much off it, I might be better off selling it "as is"

if anyone knows of anyone in the market for a Sony 70-200 G telephoto lens please let me know

(if this is against any rules please let me know TOE)

T-BONE, I think I just named my praying mantis. A T-bone steak, taters, corn and a CC. It was a mighty fine Monday, if I may say so myself.

Ok, so here's a quick shot of a silk knot in the my lightbox. Couldn't really find much interesting to shoot so I just grabbed whatever was nearby.

These are not my shots but she is my granddaughter (15). My Friend Peter Belvin-belvinphotoghraphy.com did this shoot for another friend that is a hair and makeup artist to use in her Portfolio. Cheyenne is inexperienced yet was chosen over many other experienced models for this shoot. Peter sent these today with permission to post. I hope I'm not breaking any rule by posting work that is not mine.

Since the shoot was for the makeup artist I'm sure I did not get the best shots but I was so proud I had to share them.

Thanks, I hope that she takes the advice of the photographer and the makeup artist and take this seriously. Or it may be my fear that she will.

Was it a homemade lightbox? If so how'd you do it?

Just a 12"x12"x12" cardboard box with three sides cut out and tracing paper glued to cover the sides. I lay it down so the box is open at one end and the left, right and top are the open sides. I have a posterboard inside the box curving up the back so I get the seamless background look. Two work lights with CFL's lit this one and that's it. It cost me ~$20 including the posterboards, tracing paper, lights and bulbs and took about an hour to set up.

Re: Photography Thread

Darrell I have the 50mm 1.8 and the 35mm 1.8. At the moment the 35 just stays on the camera becuae it gives that classic 50mm view most of use are indoctrinated with. Moving from ~50mm to ~75mm with your crop sensor isnt worth the hundred bucks IMO. I say go from something like the 80mm F2.8 with a crop around 120mm.

Thats my next route and the 50 1.8 will be deligated to my N80 for film use.
Plus the 50 1.8 wont auto focus on your D40. Unless there you go with the 50mm 1.4G for 4X the price. But it stops down more.

Thanks, my friend.

Why won't it auto focus on my d40?

Re: Photography Thread

It uses a manual screw drive to focus. There is a little slot in the lens where on older film bodies used to have a rotating flat head that would control the auto focus.

It does not have an internal motor. Like most of the (DX series especially) lenses do these days

I agree. You can still go old school and focus manually. :r the 60mm micro (macro) is nice too.

I wouldn't do it. There are compromises when you have zoom lenses of any length and with the super zooms, there is a lot of compromising you'll have to do in terms of image quality in exchange for the convenience of the lens. I shoot primarily primes, my kit contains 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8 and 10-22mm zoom and my next lens will probably be a prime in the 135mm range. The IQ you get from primes is significantly better than most zooms, unless you shell out the dough for more expensive professional quality glass. I like having the wider apertures too which you would lose in the superzoom.

Re: Photography Thread

what everyone else said, especially with the perspective. I NEVER use my 50mm 1.8, but you'll have to pry my 85mm 1.8 out of my cold, dead hands! 50mm on a crop body just doesnt feel right. Although oddly enough, even with my current 5D,s 50mm still doesnt feel right.....

Wolfgang 04-30-2010 08:30 AM

Re: Photography Thread

The 18-200mm is a walk around lens in the way that is covers most focal lengths. You wouldn't have co change lenses while on a hike or walk or something. But there while offering an excellent range you sacrifice details and the distortion of the lens becomes annoying at times. The variable aperture is what kills iit for me. You might as well spend that 700$ on the 85.

We've had this discussion before on this psrticular lens and it is a story of comprimises. It isn't as sharp at the 70-200 but you won't miss any shots changing lenses. Even so IMO you won't notice the unsharpness unless a. You are looking for it or b. You are printing very large. Everyone has their own thoughts.

WARNING! BEWARE OF LOW-QUALITY LIGHTSTANDS! Recently, I purchased a lightstand at a bargain price, but after using it for just one nighttime
shoot, it seized up and could not be used. I tried to return it, but the seller refused; he told me it was a one-night stand. ;-)

Does anyone know how to create a quick watermark?

My logo on the photo would be preferable but Im hoping to at least have it in the meta data. Is there a way to accomplish this quickly?

I have access to Photoshop CS3/4, Bridge CS3/4, Lightroom 2

Thanks all

It's easy in Picasa. If you want to pm me I'd be more than glad to watermark something.
