Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Had a few Elmer T Lee's last night. Very good bourbon, wish they sold it here in Ohio.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I don't shop at bevmo much these days, but I had a gift card, so I figured I would see what they had. I walked by the bourbon case and there was a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year sitting there. I was suprised to see a bottle on the shelf this long after the release. I grabbed it and ran.:noon

I am no aficianado of the Bourbon but have had many of the ones mentioned here. Woodford, Eagle Rare, knob creek, makers mark etc and none were bad and I enjoyed them all but my goto is the Evan William Single barrel. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_sctUupuw_Zk/S4...0/IMG_0281.JPG

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Picked up a bottle of it on my last haul due to various statements made here.
All I need to do is finish about three open bottles of various'es and I can find out what the fuss is about. :) I have some Rare Breed open and some Basil Hayden. I think I mostly finished that B.H. at the kart races over Thanksgiving, so it shant be long. |

Not a bourbon, but I also picked up a bottle of Talisker Distiller's Edition from 1992 that was sitting high up on a shelve (above the current 2002 version). Got it for the same price as the 2002!! Also picked up two handles of the real Irish Cream (not that malt beverage crap they pass off at the grocery stores!), plus a 1.75 l bottle of Andrews Long Island Tea mix (for my wife). It was a very successful trip. And the good news, that was just the first week of my wife's 13-week contract, so I'll be back in Knoxville several times over the next 3 months (or more, if her contract is extended). So I'll have several opportunities to refill my cabinet! |

Pretty good selection at McScrooges, prices are decent to a bit high. Better selection and prices in Nashville if you get that chance to drive a few hours away.
Nice score though, the Barrel Strength is good stuff :tu |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Always been a fan of the small batch and in order:
Booker's Baker's Knob Creek I do have a sealed bottle of Pappy Van Winkles 23year that I'm kind of afraid to open. What if I like it...what if I LOVE it! At around $300/bottle and diminishing supplies it'd suck to get hooked on. lol |

It's hard for me to think of McScrooges as on the high price, for no other reason than they are significantly lower than Alabama prices! I'm not disputing your assessment AT ALL! It's just the relative difference that makes it seem cheap to me!! I generally check out Thunder Road (a block from my wife's hotel) for competitiveness. But they have more wine, less beer and liquor than McScrooges. As to Nashville, I've got a sister that works part time at a store near Lebanon. That gets me a 25% discount, but she is limited on how much she can buy at that discount, so I only tap that source a couple times a year, and then, usually for the higher priced goodies! |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Some nights its Blantons and other it's $10 JTS Brown. And this is one of those nights.

BOOKERS, Baby ...!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Found this tucked away in a locked case in the corner of a shop covered in dust. I never even saw it, the gf pointed it out to me knowing i like the pappy stuffs and she had never seen one of these. I think there was a whopping 45 seconds from the time I saw it until the time i paid for it. I still get butterflies thinking i finally got one, and at MSRP.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Bourbon FTW!!! I like bourbon overall in general, but my favorite would have to be Blanton's. A good Maker's Mark is a classic go-to and then when i'm feeling cheap, Evan Williams green or black.... hahaha

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I'm working my way through a bottle of Conecuh Creek Bourbon. Have a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel, Barrel Strength that is pulling hard at me, wanting to be cracked open! Must resist.

Great thread. I just dusted off a bottle of Blantons single barrel. Very enjoyable. Like the knob creek single barrel. Black maple hill was also good. Drooling over the pics of the old Rip Van Winkle 23 yrs!!! :jd

I assume by "blend", you meant "recipe". This one is QESQ (20% Rye mashbill/floral yeast. Bottled 10/15/2010. The shop is McScrooge's, in the south part of Knoxville. Great selection of bourbons. BUT... Even better selection of Scotch (for those so inclined!) |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
been starting to get into bourbons/scotch. Picked up some Maker's Mark and Elijah Craig 12 year old to start. On my hit list is Blanton's, buffalo trace, Woodford, Evan Williams single barrel
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
My girlfriend got me a fifth of Baysil Hayden's for Valentines Day! I currently have Buffalo Trace, Bulleitt, Wild Turkey 101, Baysil Haydens, and a little Blanton's left.
I LOVVEEEE me some bourbon! |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Bought some new bourbons
Old Charter - very light but smooth and at $9.99 the price is right Breckenridge - a little hot but really good, glad I picked it up |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've got several options tomorrow at Knoxville store. I noticed on my recon run yesterday that they have Clear Creek. However, they want $33.95 for a 750 ml bottle! Way more than Peter is able to get this for! They have Old Forester Birthday Bourbon for about the same price. Several nicer other brands that are single barrel for $49 and $59.
Will have to make some hard choices tomorrow (on way back to Bama). But, WILL be leaving with at least two bottles of something (one each of two different bourbons) |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
What a great find.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
picked up some eagle's rare 10 to try tonight. So far, so good.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Does anyone know where I can get a bottle of Parkers Heritage Golden Anniversary? I can only find it one place online and their price is a little high.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
So Bulleit was my first and I must say I liked it. Based on reading this thread I picked these up just now.

Hudson Baby from NY; best bourbon I've had in some time. My favorite has always been Booker's, but this may actually be better. And their rye is even better; not even a hint of a bite, just pure enjoyment. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...HUD0040204.jpg |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I had the Hudson baby bourbon and rye as well, I agree with Joe the Rye was definitely better. I really want to grab a bottle of Woodford Reserve, had some while out with some buddies a couple weeks ago, really great stuff.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Just picked up the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. I will probably crack it open this weekend. I really enjoy the regular Woodford, so I have been looking forward to this one.
