Currently reading "The Law" by Frederik Bastiat. Excellent libertarian treatise written in the mid 1800's. Very prophetic. Warns of the dangers of a government that tries to rule any and all aspects of its citizen's lives.

Also just finished Born to Run by Christopher McDougall - really good book, makes me want to take my shoes off and start running!

Pretty good.
A bit of drama at times. But all in all, it's a good read.

Is that how you get in the Book Club? If so, I'd say don't do it. Might be better off selling your soul to the devil.

The Makioka Sisters, by Junichiro Tanizaki. Very good so far, it's set in wartime Japan and follows four sisters from an old fashioned and once illustrous family as they struggle to find a place in modern Japan. Surprisingly refined and sensitive when compared to his later, more fetish obsessed works.

Norman's a good novelist, but a much better journalist. I met the man once, talked to him and shook his hand . . . lord, what a total flaming @$$hole he was.

As for me, I've gotten through about 270 pages of Finnegan's Wake, or about twice as much as I've ever managed to do before. Hey, I've read some difficult books in my life, but this one . . . sheesh!
