I doubt that... I believe what Andyman was alluding to is that Paul may be contractually obligated to stick around for a bit.

You'll have to pardon me, but it seems that this thread appears to be 53 pages long, much too long for an old gentleman as myself to lull away hours reading through the chronological banter of this conversation. If you would, kind sirs, point me as what ever became of the prestigeous club stogie? (Your supposed to read that while keeping an old-style aristocratic English accent in mind).

Ya, so...I am kind of interested in knowing what ever did happen over at clubstogie. It apparently started into motion before I ever got into the cigar scene. That being said, it was where I got started while searching for an intersection between cigars and internet, days after coming back from Cuba with Cohibas in hand. Within days someone kindly tapped me on the shoulder and pointed me towards the asylum. But, for weeks to months I would bounce back and forth. CA was just had so much more personality that I eventually stopped going to CS at all. But there is some naustalgia there, so it would be nice to know how things played out that eventually lead to this smearing of such an otherwise worthy place.

Cheers

I'll give you the cliff notes version from my perspective. CS is/was home to MANY of us for many years. During the fall of last year it was purchased by a guy named Jon Caputo. He purchased that and other sites as well at the same time. He informed the then MOD staff of his plans for the site in the near future. I was part of that MOD staff. The entire staff was not comfortable with the direction he wanted to take CS. So we, 100% of the CS MOD team, created a place for our friends and family on CS so the spirit of community that ClubStogie created could be kept intact. Thus was born the "Team of 11". 11 members who made up the entire staff of ClubStogie. We formed CigarAsylum in order to give cigar smokers an Asylum of sorts away from the commercial exploits of the newly formed Puff.

Most of the membership of CS migrated here when they saw what had happened to their home. We saw the writing on the wall and were able to act before all the changes went down.

Believe me my friend, no one was more sad than us as CS was our true home for many many years. Some had been members since its inception.

That in a nutshell is what happened.

There will always be people who don't know the true story. Its just sad that new members will never know the true beginnings of CS and how it was morphed into a comercial site and any hints at the greatness of the previous site will soon be removed.

That's a shame. Anybody talk to Paul about this? Will he be over here eventually, when that contract is up? I never met him personally, but the interaction I have had w/ him proves to me that he is a stand up guy.

I initially sent a PM off to members of our elite group of 11 to perhaps gently guide this thread into the abyss. Then I realized that you should never ask of someone something that you are not willing to do yourself.

While I fully agree that there is an onslaught of emotional waste that has occured as a result of one mans actions over at the jungle formerly known as CS I think maybe it is time to enjoy the Asylum for what it is and bury all this negativity.

It is clear that we have something better than what we left behind, I respectfully ask my fellow inmates to let this issue fall aside and die, we are better than that, that is why we came here.

Thank you,

Shawn

Well said my foxy friend.

I know I let my baser instincts take over when I saw how unjustly Tom, Dave, Peter and other elder members were being treated. However now that most of our brethren have entered the Asylum I will do my best to help continue to cultivate the type of community here at the Asylum that we've always had.

So from here on, I'll try to stay classy San Diego :tu

I agree with you Shawn, about enjoying what we have and all.

I am really glad that this thread was here. It was a place to blow off some steam and commiserate with people that were/are going though the same things, same emotions. Without it I personally would have let my emotions get the better of me and done or said things over there that I would have regretted at some point. Nothing bad or illegal but I would have been disappointed in myself for sinking to as low a level as those that upset me.

That being said I think that it will eventually fall into the abyss on it's own.

Great post Shawn. But I must admit, it is difficult for me. I was actually well behaved there for awhile, waited to see how things would turn, gave Jon the benefit of the doubt. But after seeing how my friends were treated so badly there, a place we all helped build into the splendid forum it was, and his attitude I just can't help myself. We have had some back and forth, and at this point I know i'm pissing him off but good. And that's very gratifying to me :D

Anyone else notice how many "newbs" are signing up there? Seems like everyone for a couple of days has the same story: in college, trying some sticks, have to be 21 to order online, I like vanilla dog rockets.... Saw one newb get asked about his most/least favorite stick without much of a reply.

Could these be dummy accounts to replace all the surfacing gorillas/inmates? It would sure make the topics/post count look better....

Just food for thought from an insane former Gorilla.

I've thought the same about this thread too, Fox. That was until yesterday's actions and the banning (scrambling) of some of our leaders. That was a new low, and I think it will all die shortly now that all of the CS mods have resigned.

I understand everyone's feelings.... CS was my first home in the slide down hill. Yesterday I deleted the link in favorites. I felt it was time to leave the old behind and look toward the future, herfing with my fellow inmates. I encourage everyone to do the same. CS is gone and I don't wish to visit there anymore and help JC's online hit rating.

Funny that on Cigar Live a lot of the posters seem to look forward to the change.

I've stopped doing anything there but checking the newbie forums for other Bay Area people, but I think that's even gonna stop. First I was angry, then sad, now just don't care.

But again, CS lives on here pretty much in reality as well as spirit. This is where my friends are and this is where I'll be happy to call home. Thanks to the 11 for putting up this site. Now I just need to figure out how to become a site supporter here. :ss
