You can throw all the money you want at players but if they aren't healthy it doesn't make a difference. We still have Holmstrom and Franzen out. With players in and out of the lineup there isn't much chemistry there.

I agree injuries hurt the wings. The reason it took such a toll this year is that you are not neaRly as deep a team this year as in past years. The wings can't absorb the injuries and keep rolling anymore like in past Years. Sorry but there is no way the wings are as deep as past years. Combine that with injuries and no one to fill the void equals average season.

As to stick u may want to look at 2 piece. Being u are getting back in a 2 piece will allow u to try different curves as u explore how like to shoot. Look at eastons or the warrior AK47.

Thanks for the recommendation on the stick, Tom. I'll have to check them out. Is there such thing as a cheaper composite stick? Or are they worth the investment?

I found both my composites on sale for less than $100 each. They have lasted several months and and rockin'. The PMPs might last me 25 games before the blade would be too worn to use. so for me the composites have been worth it...both in performance and durability.

Mike's suggestion is a good one too....took me a few years of trying different patterns (heel curve, toe curve, etc) before settling on the "Coffey" pattern.

I do worry about the 'Canes game though....play last night Thursday is what should be a high-tempo game against the Sharks, then fly across the country for the last stop on their 8 game road trip. If they beat the Sharks, I fear a let down in Carolina.

Saw a good game tonight from my Hurricanes... they have won four of the last five.

Re: NHL '09 - '10 Thread

I could not have been happier with the Sharks tonight even though the lost in OT. This game to me was much more important than when the Sharks beat the Hawks at the United Center. They retained sole control of first by virtue of the hated OT point, but more importantly the following occurred.

As opposed to the last meeting at the Tank when the Hawks took the lead and never looked back the Sharks scored 3 unanswered goals after spotting the Hawks 3 goals early in the 1st period forcing the game to overtime. At the end of the third and into OT the Sharks killed of a Penalty part of which on the 4 on 3 one Shark had no stick. The Sharks were able to do this without their number one D man Boyle who is injured and losing there number 2 D man Vlassic in the first period. The Sharks played majority of the game with only 5 Dman which were not there shutdown D men and clawed back into the game.

In the end the Hawks showed why they are a powerhouse team though. The Hawks are very deep and very fast. In the end with a short bench they were to much for the Sharks to handle. I was very impressed with the play of the Hawks and both teams got amazing and sub standard goal tending during the game. Huey made some great saves on key plays as did Nabby, but both also had a few WTF? moments.

Hats off to the Hawks tonight. Both teams played hard and it was refreshing to see a game that didnt resort to fights after every good hit :r No cheap crap, just good hard hockey.

Both teams played great. The Thorntton/Heatly/Marleau line is scary good even though they did not score, and Pavelski is a stud. Clowe didn't show up though, and the Sharks missed Boyle on the blue line.

Gonna make for an awesome Western Conference Finals series. ;)

Re: NHL '09 - '10 Thread

Couldnt agree more. One of the two will play for the cup and no way I see either getting upset before the final. This will be a monster series though if it happens and the emerging team will likely be exhausted which may make them a mark for the cup. The Hawks bring speed and skill the Sharks bring size and skill.

I just wonder how different the teams will look next year. The Hawks are going to lose a player or two because of the cap next year and I think the Sharks may lose Patty. He is having a monster year and you have to wonder if losing the C will make him seek another team.

Clowe seemed way to intrested in the Buff tonight. Seemed like he wanted to fight him in the third and Buff was clearly affecting his game.

icehog3 01-29-2010 12:26 AM

Re: NHL '09 - '10 Thread

I think taking the "C' from him was the best thing that could have happened for Marleau...leading the NHL in goals. Good for him, I have always liked him.

Hawks will lose a couple guys, but have Kane, Toews, Keith, Hossa, Versteeg, Byfuglein and Seabrook tied up, and likely will make a good offer to Niemi, so I see good things for the future for them with that core.

all in fun brother. Press the button.

Seriously though if the playoffs started today the wings are golfing. That said I think they will get in and win a round, maybe if they are seated in the 5 or 6 spot. 7 or 8 I dont think they have it in a 7 game series against the Hawks or Sharks.

Watched the Isles/Flyers game and I felt they played much better toay than last weekend. More heartand more physical. we still need a real enfoer (not a goon) and someon who will stay in front f the net. I did see some good net crashing in the late second and third period.

Ward was awesome...Congrats to Joe, hope the snow didn't force you to miss the game. I was afraid the Hawks would be in for a letdown after the 8 game trip, but it was more Ward's acrobatics than a letdown by the Hawks.

Thanks, Tom! Just got in from the game... only about 7,000 in attendance - and a bunch of Blackhawk fans - and it was a fantastic contest. :D

I have to agree about the Hawks... I expected a letdown, but I really didn't see it. Cam Ward really was incredible. We are fortunate to have this guy! So glad we locked him up.

Hossa played pretty solid and Kane was just plain scary. Glad to get the two points tonight. Grateful to see the Blackhawks up close. (Got to sit in the lower level tonight. :tu )

As bummed as I was to see my boys lose, I was truly happy for you. Hossa, Kane and Toews are scary good most nights, but Ward was on fire tonight.

Could you tell how crappy the ice was, Joe? They had a basketball game (NC State) 5 hours before the hockey game, it was still covering the ice surface 2 hours before game time. Puck looked like a superball.

I watched for you in the crowd, but didn't see you.

Ice did seem to be a little off... saw several times when skates lost edges. That must be why the 'Canes won. ;)

Like Patrick Sharp commented about the ice condition after the first period, "both teams have to play on the same ice, so it's no excuse".

Re: NHL '09 - '10 Thread

I been biting my tongue all season because the Bruins have been ravaged by injury's.

Enough is enough, two major deals that are hurting the B'S Claude Julien should be fired, he has lost the locker room?

The problem is he singed a contract extension last season and is not even into it yet, so unfortunately his job is safe. The Bruins are still paying the last coach Dave Lewis, the cheap ass Bruins will not pay three coaches.

Next is Tim Thomas they gave him an extension and big money and are stuck with him, he gives up soft goal after soft goal he has to go?

I guess Peter Chiarelli should be looked at to?

The Bruins worked hard to get the fan base back, and could be in danger of losing a lot of fans if the ship is not righted.

We will support a losing team but will not support a team that does not put in an effort, skate hard how a bout a fore check oncne in a while, and drop the darn cloves.

Rant off :D

Son of a BiXh Big trade between the Leafs and Flames.
LoL last week Phanuef said he knew nothing about asking to be traded.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=515662

As a closet Leafs fan and a non Phaneuf fan I am not happy. I know this is Burke's kind of guy, well kind of atleast. He hits but he doesnt answer the bell for the fight. This trade has me scratching my head, I dont think it will bring much.

Looking at the Stats of the Players going back and forth I think Shawn should be happy as I think the Flames will get some immediate firepower. That said the Aulie kid may also be a big factor. Apparently he is big and impressive and may have a great future ahead.

Ugh

Not sure I like this one.

Seems we gave away a lot for some maybes............I think this trade was born of desperation.

The other thing is I am pretty sure that Dion wanted out of Calgary.

Watch him over the years...........I think this is a mistake.

If any of these guys can help it click then maybe the flames make a deep run. Fortunately the flames are deep in defence and that won't hurt the team defensively. His big shot will be missed, and he does provide a highlight reel hit now and again.

Seems I have some crow to eat, I said that Phaneuf will never go.

If this backfires I think Sutter is looking at a limited life span.
