Blackened on the grill!

I'd like to try deep frying them one day.

Place kraut in a sauce pan, sprinkle with some celery seed, place a couple of dogs on top, and heat until dogs are heated through.
Eat on soft dog rolls with mustard.

That is a good way. I like to add garlic, gin, fresh thyme, carraway seeds to my kraut before cooking the dog.

I've been thinking about making and marketing a hot dog electric chair!

A small resin chair with a probe sticking up out of the seat, the head cap also has a probe, stick the dog on the seat probe, slide the crown down until the probe is in the top of the dog then throw the switch until the dog is hot.

My favorite dogs are those cooked on a Hot Dog Roller. I eat em plain or with a little brown mustard.

The only time I actually enjoy eating a hot dog is when I am at a baseball or hockey game.

To me, nothing replaces the taste cooked over an open fire on a stick.

From ages 8-21: Sliced then mixed with a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese, then cover with Tabasco.

From the age of 22+ I would say blackened over open flame with a stick then covered with so much sauerkraut/whole grain mustard that you have to hurry and eat it before the kraut juice breaks the bun apart.

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

Cooked me up a Hebrew National dog in the micro-wave (wrapped in several wet paper towels) just until it started to bust - on the bun with hot chili sauce, shredded cheese and mustard - back into the micro-wave to melt it all together.

Man was that good - damn near had to eat it with a fork!

Kraut with mustard & ketchup, mustard & ketchup w/chili, cheese & onions , mustard & ketchup w/ onions & relish.

It's all good with me. :dr

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

Stuck on a stick, dipped in corn batter and deep fried.
But if you can't get a corn dog then over an open fire can't be beat.

I can't believe no one said:

Have your woman cook them for you!

(she uses the George Foreman grill - it works well)

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

slow steamed in beer is always good.

Grilled ultra-well done, always good, too.

Cut up, pan fried and dropped into Kraft Mac N' Cheese...... Hey, if the budget demands it.... Rock on!

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

I buy only Nathan's franks. I fry them in bacon grease in an ancient cast iron pan until they're suffering from 3rd degree burns. Then I toast the buns in the same pan.

I slather the bun halves with Trader Joe's green olive tapenade, toss in the dog, then dump on raw (or fried) onions and diced fresh garlic.

If I don't have the tapenade, I use homemade guacamole in its place.

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

Hot Dogs, Boiled in Beer, Grilled, Steamed, Or try deep Fried. Till they burst.
might add liquefied butter on the toasting bun.
Might top it with a good spicy mustard, Hot Chillier, Sharp Cheddar, Fresh Sour Kraut,
Onions sautéed in hot pepper sauce.
In mustard choices I like Horseradish mustard, My Preference is A Bauer's German Mustard.
For those who like Garlic,
Try cooking Knobble Wurst.
Hearty Appetites to all,

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

Electrocute them.

Stick a stripped and split 120v cord into each end and watch it swell.

1 1/2 to 2 minutes its done.

For the retro crowd, theres the presto hotdogger, which does the same thing:

Re: best way to cook a hot dog?

Drop them in the deep fryer. Top with chili and mustard. One gets kraut the other onions.
