Very nice! I saw one of these on c-bid this week and was trying hard not to put in a bid (the $300+ shipping charged helped me resist ;) ).

Really? I checked cbid for comparison's sake and saw shipping at $185...

Err, nevermind.

Re: My xmas present to myself - Cabinet Humidor!

I got mine just like that off cbid, shipping was $185.

Sweet humidor, I really like mine. I have the moistenaire and about 4lbs of beads in it.

Gotta be careful with the moistnaire and make sure to change the water at least once a month. Plus mine went nuts on me and just turned itself on for a whole day without me noticing. Humidity was 97% and I had water dripping down the glass. So just keep an eye on it to make sure the humidity control is working. ;) Nice score. :ss

I may be thinking of the larger 5,000 cigar capacity cabinet. I was looking at that too. :ss

Either one of those would probably get me divorced though. :D

Yeah, I'm going to have to swing by and check it out... you know, to make sure it's all well and good.

Re: My xmas present to myself - Cabinet Humidor!

Wow! That's a gorgeous cabinet! :dr I'd love to have something like that, but considering the condition of my wallet after Christmas, I wouldn't be able to afford to fill it up after I got it! :(

I guess it's cool-a-dors for me in the forseeable future... ;)

Kudo's to your lovely wife!! :tu

Yeah, mine doesn't seem to know when to shut off... I need to salt test my hydrometers to make sure I'm not crazy. I just changed the batteries in all of them so they may be wrong.

The hydrostats on moistnaires aren't at all accurate. They aren't really meant to be. We use the same kind in manufacturing applications cause they're "good enough".
If you take the little cover off and clean all the dust and spooge off the bimetal with alcohol and qtips they're a lot more reactive, even if not all that accurate.
That means the "swing" may only be 10% from start to stop rather than 20%. That'd get you more in the ballpark, at least.
We're used to beads and as such, we expect the RH to be rock solid at whatever%.
Moistnaires don't work like that. At all. :)
If that doesn't make sense I can explain it a little better. :tu

Unfortunately the ones I've seen are just too $$ :(

Hey there Dan
sorry to say, but that cab is too small!

seriously, it looks beautiful, I love the way a glass front displays the boxes. It is very elegant, and I take away a sense pride and tradition.

very , very nice

I'd like to find some kind of 'refrigeration unit' or something in order to keep the cabinet at a specific temp. Any suggestions?

You will need to perform some surgery on your cabinet but your only real option is to install some form of ThermoElectric cooler...

A local guy built a custom cigar cabinet and he ripped apart a Coleman cool/warm cooler to scavenge the THC out of it... it works well but his cabinet is about 1/2 size of yours...

I'm looking at modding my compressor-based wine-cooler with a THC from a Coleman cooler... I would like to minimize the humidity swings...

She just shook her head and sighed (good-naturedly). I think it was (is) more of a shock to me. I've never seen all my boxes in one place before... it's awesome, but I keep catching myself just standing in front of it and staring... :r

Get some Super Absorbant Polymers (www.watersorb.com) and you'll have no problems with water spillage. A dash of grain alcohol and you'll never have mold.
