Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
I am Jewish and I always wish folks Merry Christmas. Why, because 99% of the time you would be correct! I also hate people who question the PC of it because other might be offended. I dont know one Jew who does not wish people merry Christmas and loves a good christmas party with friends! Merry Christmas all and Happy Hanukah to my JBOTLS!

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
It is ridiculous, but I say 'Happy Holidays' just to avoid the hassle of ticking anyone off.

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
As an atheist, I celebrate Christmas as a time of family, changing of the seasons, reason to be together, etc. I call it Christmas and I wish people a Merry Christmas. I'm not offended when people do the same to me. As stated in an above post Christmas is a time of year for many people, not just a religious holiday.
My Christmas wish: May overt PCness become a thing of the past. |
Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
I'm offended by you not being offended.

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
Political correctness is killing us here in the USA. Europe is already a lost cause, IMO. I recently had a discussion with my pops about this very issue. He said one thing that stuck with me..."If you control the language, you control the debate." Thought police, anyone? :)

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
Happy Festivus!!!
and Merry Christmas! |
Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
Well, Some people think they have the right not to be offended. Somehow I missed that one in the Bill of Rights. Those people make me want to purposefully offensive to them.
So Merry Christmas to all you nuts in the asylum. If I've offended anyone when I say that then all I can say is tough crapola. :D HMMMM! Maybe that's why I like Dennis Leary so much. That I don't give a chit if someone has been offended because I haven't been PC aware enough. |
Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
People should take the greetings as intended. It's a shame that to some people every believe but theirs is being insensitive.
I wish a Merry Christmas to all of you, and a Happy New Year |
Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
Great banter!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat point DBall...........................Kwanza is actually nothing. And as always, Tombstone, is dead on about Kwanza. Thanks for the Merry Christmas greetings everybody. and to all of you.... a Very, Very Merry Christmas!!! - |
Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
When I wish someone a Merry Christmas, or a Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays, or whatever, the thought I'm really conveying is that you're someone I care about, and I sincerely wish you the best life can offer.
I guess maybe I'm fortunate. The people I come in contact with all seem to understand this. Merry Christmas, Asylum |

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
To all my sensitive brothers and sisters of the leaf:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. * To my BotLs and SotLs with a brain: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! |

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
Is it me or is the term 'Politically Correct' an oxymoron? How often is anything political correct? I will frequently use the term Happy Holidays, more often when writing than speaking. It's not because I want to be PC, but more so because I'm too lazy to write Merry Christmas and Happy New Years. If my laziness offends anyone, :fu :r

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
There wouldn't be any Happy Holidays this week if it weren't for the "Merry Christmas". Funny, I don't hear many protests from atheists fighting for their right to work Wednesday and Thursday. :hm
I actually have a buddy who is atheist and he called to thank me for the Christmas card we had sent. Merry Christmas people. |

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
I thought to read this and see what is going on. I could speak about a number of things. But, I only want to right quickly and off the cuff. So, here goes...
I would be offended if a Jew were to wish me - Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. Why? They mean nothing to him. I would expect him to wish me the best of what he believes, and greet me with Happy Chanukah. In the same way, when I expect Christians to wish me a Merry Christmas, it is not a way of pushing religion on them - it is wishing them the very best of what Christians believe to be true. In the same way, I'd never expect a non-Christian to wish me a Merry Christmas or Happy Chanukah, but Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings. Anyway, just some of my thoughts. |

It's really pretty friggin simple....just say MERRY CHRISTMAS. If they have a problem with it, then it's just that....THEIR PROBLEM!
By the way.....MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the inmates and great friends here in the Asylum! |
Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?
what is so "merry" about it?

Re: So Politically Correct we can't talk?

Personally, from a religious aspect, it does give my family and I an oppportunity to reflect upon the significance of what this season represents...which makes it a significant "merry" event. I will acknowledge to those who have studied religion, that the time of year that we celebrate this event is not necessarily the time of year that the events that unfolded occurred....but, it is the time that we do celebrate it in this country. To each his own....but, as far as the topic of this thread....stores and college campus settings, and other locations that have chosen to refrain from the significance of what the Christmas season is about has gotten to the point of ridiculous, based upon Political Correctness and so as not to upset "non-Christians." Have your kwanzas and other events....and I'll respect your events....but, don't take away a time-honored and a Christian-based event because a few knuckleheads in this country want to play silly games where the few will make the decisions for the majority. Those that cave into this PC environment are no better than those that are initiating the issues. Just my :2....nevertheless, MERRY CHRISTMAS! |
