I looked at the DRIOD bionic and it's a beast with a 4.3" display (iphone is 3.5"). I think the iphone is almost too big as is.....plus I never had good luck with motorola.

just the phone? no, but my experience is that the att network is comparable to at least verizon in everywhere in this country i have been as witnesed by a personal att phone and work verizon carried and used coast to coast.

this what i dont get. i have been with; alltel, gci, att alaska(seperate from lower 48 version), cellone, att(mothership lower 48 version) for personal phones. verizon, sprint, and back to att for work phones. cellone was the best in cs and servive imo, then alltel, att alaska, att, verizon, sprint, gci. att has always been very responsive to problems i have had, something verizon never was whether it was the gov phone or not. service and coverage are above average but not much. of all the people i know the only ones who oobjectively have issues with att are iphone users and i have personally seen those issues too. i wont go to verizon because i need gsm for overseas but even then i wouldnt consider them.

I'm getting myself and my dad one asap. The LTE iPhone is probably not going to be released until june 2012, so I think I can hold on to this one for 18 months, and by then I'll have another upgrade ready for an LTE iPhone then.

But I've been waiting for this day for a while. Finally!

My guess is the area you are in? Back about 5 years ago ATT sucked in my area and VZ was the best. Now reception is the same, but our neighbor needs ATT for international travel and he complaisn about dropped calls from his home. For domestic usage I will keep VZ, but if I needed a phone for use internationally I would look at ATT.

Also, I used to go to my grandparents beach house in the summer and Sprint was the only thing that worked there. Then up at my uncle's house in Maine VZ was the only one that worked. Today, the issue at the beach is no longer, but in Maine VZ is still the better choice. :2

I understand travelling with a VZW phone will be less of an issue in the future. The 4G technology they are using is going to be the international standard.

Interesting press conference about the new VZW iPhone. They confirmed the phone will be the same price as at AT&T, but not much in the way of details beyond that. It sounds like the vPhone won't be 100% the same as the AT&T version. Also, no info yet on the data plans either. I signed up on Apple.com to get further info as it becomes available.

My AT&T contract is up next month so this is good timing. I might go with a Droid phone though to get the 4G service.

The rumor mill says the voice + data price plan pricing will be VERY similar.

No, allegedly it will still be running on 3G which means no browsing while on a call. Additionally it would be a bad move for someone to buy now as traditionally apple releases a new model each June and I don't forsee this being any different if the verizon phone is going to be the same platform as the current iPhone 4

Nothing alleged about it, it's plain old 3g cdma.

I completely agree with everything else Andrew. WWDC is going to be June. If the past is any indication there will be a new iPhone unveiled. If I were in the market for a Verizon iPhone I would wait a few more months.

Eh, there is a new phone every six months that makes your current one out of date no matter what you do. And if I'm not mistaken generally CDMA versions release later so who knows if they will be same date release or not.

I agree whole heartedly, but this is MID-product cycle. I buy a brand new to the market phone I expect it to be overtaken by something new. With this you are already half-way there.

They are going to see a metric a$s-load - it's freaking brilliant.

I get what you mean, I just have my doubts the cdma version of the next iphone will release at the same time. Given how fast phones advance already, I'm fine with taking the risk. Especially since I'm eligible for an upgrade already

I don't doubt for a second it will be a great device. And you very well may be correct and the CDMA iPhone 5 is going to be next winter... The only thing really sticking in my craw is that you CANT get these on a 1-year contract. It seems like it's 2 years or full retail. I also heard (pure speculation) that Verizon is going to be changing it's early upgrade eligibility from 1 year to 20 months. 20 months is a LONG time.

I believe they just changed their contracts around, and as far as I know you can do a 1 year or a 2 year, instead of the "new every two" they used to stick with. Not sure if maybe the iPhone won't offer the 1 year option

Re: Verizon Finally Lands iPhone!

I am far from a techie, but saw an article saying Verizon's Iphone won't allow multitasking. You won't be able to send email or surf the net while on the phone they were saying.

Not important to me, but I'm sure it is for some.

I'm eligible for an upgrade with ATT, but am waiting for Iphone5.

Re: Verizon Finally Lands iPhone!

There was an interesting article in the paper here today about the new Verizon Iphone. Like Pete and several others mentioned it is 3G only so there is no surfing/talking concurrently. I don't see that as a huge deal for me anyway. However, they were saying the big catch is that Apple will probably release a new Iphone 5 this summer. Again that is widely expected and not huge news. What really caught my eye though was they said that Verizon will not be able to offer the Iphone 5 to its customers until the one year anniversary of their contract. It would really tick me off if a new model was released and I could only get the old one!!!

Re: Verizon Finally Lands iPhone!

I think there are going to be a lot of ticked off people if Apple doesn't plan this correctly.

I suspect they will come out with a "new and improved" model for the Verizon release to avoid new customers feeling like they got "leftover phones with antennae issues." (not that that is the case, just perception for some)

I'm kinda excited for my upgrade as I am still in the dark ages with my Iphone 3.

My guess is you've never purchased a smartphone before....unfortuntately most smart phones are in the $200 range with a 2 year contract.

I wouldn't be surprised if they release the 4g phone next month and the 5g in the summer....how else can Apple expect their stock price/revenue to continue to climb ;)

I would be surprised to see two new releases from Apple that close to each other

Finally, where there's smoke there's fire. :) Now, it'd be nice to have more clarity into when the iPhone 5 will be released on VZ. I've been due for an upgrade for almost 2 years and I'd don't mind waiting for the iPhone 5, but I don't think I could hold out for another year.

I understand not being able to use data while on the phone, but what happens if you are using data and receive a phone call? Will that go straight to voicemail? (It's been years since I've been on a CDMA network).

Bump, would love to knwo an answer to this. Im currently an AT&T user, but they dont have service at my house, and well i work from home now so I am going to swap to verizon when the iphone comes out. I didnt think about this but what does happen if your using data? I would have thought it would shut your data off and go to phone.. maybe im wrong.

It doesn't on my blackberry. Phone calls will interrupt whatever I am doing and most of the time if a page is downloading it will automatically resume as soon as the call is over
