I'm excited, I read that Perez looked good. He was actually NEAR the strike zone, maybe he'll be opening day pitcher

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
And the saga continues...."As The Wilpons Turn"...
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Hounded by a multimillion dollar lawsuit filed by the trustee trying to recover money for victims of the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme, the New York Mets acknowledged Friday they received a loan in November to help cover expenses. "We said in October that we expected to have a short-term liquidity issue," the team said in a statement. "To address this, we did receive a loan from Major League Baseball in November. Beyond that, we will not discuss the matter any further." The New York Times and Daily News said the loan amount was $25 million. The trustee, Irving H. Picard, sued Mets owner Fred Wilpon, brother-in-law and team President Saul Katz and various family members and entities related to Sterling Equities, seeking at least $300 million. Picard claimed the Mets profited with their Madoff investments and ignored warnings that his high returns might be false. Losses in the Ponzi scheme are estimated at around $20 billion. The Wilpons have said they are victims in the scheme. The Mets announced last month they were looking to sell a non-controlling interest in the team of 20 to 25 percent to raise several hundred million dollars. Wilpon insisted his family would remain in control of the team. Less than two weeks ago, Moody's Investors Service lowered its outlook on the company that operates the ballpark used by the New York Mets because of the litigation. The ratings firm cut the outlook on Queens Ballpark Co. LLC to "Negative," but maintained its "Ba1" rating on the company's bonds. |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
You must have cut and pasted this!
There is no way you typed all that with the erection you got from reading it :noon Looks like your day is off to a good start :tu :r |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
All the talk locally is that this lawsuit will force the Wilpons to sell off the whole team.

It will take a few years to recover from Omar. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/m...=ESPNHeadlines |

5-5 tie in 10 innings with the Braves yesterday.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Oliver Perez's line today...and we paid him $ 18M for 3 years. :tu :tu

And a 7-1 win vs the University of Michigan. Capuano looked good. I am enjoying the wins while I can. :D |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Always liked Cap just hope he holds up. As for Perez......how can you say your going in a different direction with gm, manager etc... And still have this guy on the team, it's a joke. The funny thing is he was saying that the guys that he walked were taking some really good pitches and he didn't want to give them anything to hit. The 3 batters that he walked were back to back to back. GET RID OF HIM NOW.........

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Carlos Beltran has asked that he be moved to right field to benefit the team.
Stand up move by Beltran who has never gotten the respect or credit he deserves from Met fans! http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/m...ory?id=6166534 |

Maybe, if he stays healthy in right field, he'll produce more with his bat (like he's paid to do anyway).

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
He's being paid a ton of money and this is his contract year. He needs to say and do whatever it takes for the possibility of a return to the team next year. Maybe, with his age, he'll only come back as a defensive bench player. I like him and I'd be willing to accept that, but that will only happen if he stays healthy this year and shows what he was hired to do with his bat.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
not much of a defensive bench player with his wheels though....

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Look at the bright side, how much worse can it get. After the last 3 yrs of thinking to myself that this could be the year I have no expectations for this year. So anything besides EVERY player getting injured will be a positive.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
WSJ is reporting that the mets will face additional allegations in the Madoff scandal.
The new allegations are expected to raise the amount of money already being sought by trustee Irving H. Picard. It is reported that he is currently seeking over 1 Billion dollars. |

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
What happens if the Wilpon's have to declare bankruptcy? Does the team go belly-up or do they simply get sold?
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
From what I read Dave the Mets.......I mean Wilpons (sorry Mac :) ) are not broke.
The problem they have is that most of their money is not liquid and is tied up in Real Estate. If they need cash, they have to sell a building, and that takes time. It is possible that creditors will simply seize their real estate holdings. |
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Thanks. I was really hoping they would have to sell the team! The Mets nead some drastic help. New owners would be a good start.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
I just read that trustee Irving H. Picard is seizing Carlos Beltran and Ollie Perez knocking $7.46 off of what the Wilpons owe....you read it on the internet (here) therefore must be true... :r:r

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Great, now Perez pitches two scorless innings. Brass will start thinking he's got his stuff back and that theres hope instead of cutting him.
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Reports are surfacing stating by the start of next season the plan is to cut the Mets $140 million payroll in half. :O
|
Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter
Beltran sits next game after being sore from DHing, and then some people wonder why he gets the criticism.

It's spring training! If he's not right should he push it and miss games that matter? Reyes has milked more injuries than anyone else on that team, yet the majority of Met fans still consider him un-tradeable! Beltran has had more big hits than Wright and Reyes combined :2 |

Beltran out 3 - 4 days with knee tendenitis. Yes, I'm a little disgruntled Met fan today. They're also going to see if Perez can be a $12 mil. situational pitcher.
