Re: Disc Golf

No ****. Ya gotta start checking around. Ask nicely and discretely about home/private courses in your area. As a fellow local course ownwer says, " Its a little bit of love in someonesback yard." Size and quality will vary just as it does on public courses, but in general private courses are more fun and more challenging. One of our local private courses is on land the guy lives on and rents. He couln't afford to outfit a course with baskets so friends pitched in and "loaned" him 18 baskets to be used on the "temp" course and go back to the donater if/when the course is closed. This course isnamed BorrowedTime.:) My course is Ramcat Ridge. Come see us if your ever in the area.

Re: Disc Golf

I've been known to throw a disc or two in my time...

I only have 1 shot down so far and that is my tomahawk... being left handed I can't get a feel for side arm... I do all my putting frisbee style...

My discs are a mix up of river re-sales and whatever was cheap at the outdoors shop in town... I have some more firm and some more pliable plastics... 2 putters, 3 intermediates, 3 drivers... all banged up and scratched but they throw ok... more or less...

I play at Western's campus course, Davidson College's course when I am back home, and another private course on the land of a very cool guy by the name of Mr. Bracket (Bracket's Bluff

As I mentioned before I am not all that great at it... but for me its more about getting outdoors, smoking a cigar, maybe having a beer, hanging out with friends and throwing stuff... :lr

Dave Brackett and sons are GOOD people. Haven't seen him since their recent property issues but plans are in the works to move part of the course onto his land beyond the house. You're not but an hour from my place when you are at Davidson. Holler and we'll get in a round.-(P

Holy crap!!! How have I missed this thread!!! Disc golf is my other lifestyle. I live for it. Worked at a disc golf store, run clinics for kids at schools, and was the former president of the Minnesota Frisbee Association. LOVE this sport. Love seeing a thread here about it!

If you guys ever come up to the Twins Cities, we have 75 disc golf courses within a 25 mile radius. Definitely a must. Here are some pics from the places I like to play.

Yeah I never heard of this, but it makes perfect sense. Just never ran into it growing up in Jersey. But nothing compares to coming over here to PA and everyone asking me if I wanted to play "corn hole" , which turned out not to be as invasive as the name implies. But I'll save that for another hijack.

These grounds like Twins Cities look gorgeous. Hopefully you are allowed to puff it up over there. .

#4 at blue ribbon pines. The Alley of Death.

BRP is probably one of the coolest places I have played at. It is about 6 miles from my house and they have 27 holes, a beer shack, and they plow the fairways in the winter. I love that place.

Yup, very nice in Minnesota. I went by GGGT a few years ago when I was up there grouse hunting. Only got to play once at a little course near Brainerd(sp?), but had a great time with the grouse and woodcock. And thank god rec planners like the relative cheapness of installing courses.

Mmmmm and a flick rolled Gator on #4 BRP maybe.;-)

:O, those holes look like fun. The thing about private courses and here are, there are so many nice public courses every where. don't get me wrong I would def. want to play one of those course even if was private, but there's so many other options that I would never have thought to seek them out. 27 hole course @ McGiver park on the Clackamas River, 18 hole @ timber park in incesticada thats probably my favorite. Theres so many that I haven't even been to yet. Disc golf is big in OR.

Re: Disc Golf

Played the first time in Alabama,in 1986.
Been years,I built a course for Durham,NC,and was pro of the two in that town.At one time,I had played every course in NC.

Back then we used the Super Puppy,Rubber Putter, and a new disc from Innova, the Aero Eagle. Then came the Stingray,Roc, P-38,and now I do not know how many discs are out there.
Great game, always met the nicest people on the course..........

All the PDGA sanctioned tournaments in the world. None of those played at Bracketts anymore unfortunately.

Which Durham course? Are you still in NC and actively playing? Tom? Alabama? Not Tom Monroe are you?

Man, what a gorgeous day in NC's Brushie Mountains yesterday, low 60's, cobalt blue sky, light wind, just about ideal for disc. Had a big old time at the Little Wing course over in Wilkes County, one of my favorite courses.

I got out today for the first time in weeks. Knee high snow but it was a warm 35 and sunny out. You know it's been a cold winter when you feel like you don't need your jacket and it's 35 degrees out!

Oh yeah. Started at 12:30 throwing horseshoes and EPC New Wave. Been so wet I hadnt thrown shoes in over a month, but was on, at least as muchas I ever am. At 2 the disc bunch showed up, played 4 teams of dubs in a slow relaxing round. Burned a Padilla 48 lancero and JDN Antano consul while us two old farts demonstrated how up shots and putts win rounds in the woods. :banger celebrated the 4 stroke win with a DPG El Picador. -(P was a true dubs round for us with oneofus always picking up the slack. Legitimate par 60 course and we threw a 55.:noon

Sounds like a good day to me my friend... :tu

Now if I could only find someone willing to trade disc swag (lol im looking for a bag) for cigars... I'd be all set...

Know of any cheap/decent disc bags?

Re: Disc Golf

How many are you looking for it to hold Rob?

Robulous78 02-25-2013 04:43 PM

Re: Disc Golf

maybe 10... So far I only have 7 in my set... Don't even use all of those most the time...

I want back hanging rig with room for at least 1 if not 2 water bottles and a decent size storage/stuff pocket...

Re: Disc Golf

Darn, I just bought the new Latitude 64 tourney bag, and just sold my Innova Competition bag. Have a smaller Discraft bag also but a little too small for what you are looking for. Ebay is a good place to look also if none of the brothers here have any.

Re: Disc Golf

Thanks Pete... darn timing... perhaps ya know of a backpack style rig that is cheap? the ones i see on the bay are 35 dollars for the straps alone... let alone the bag...

Re: Disc Golf

I'm not too serious about disc golf but play it two or three times a month in the summer, we have a great course here locally which the "pro circuit" plays normally once each summer. It's pretty tough but a great way to kill some time and get off the couch lol.

Gonna be hard to find a cheap backpackbag Rob. I've got a Revolution backpack that I love and there area buttload of backpack models out there. Just keep your eyes skinned for a used one and it'll turn up. Some folks change bags like they were shirts.

riverdawg 02-25-2013 06:07 PM

Re: Disc Golf

And watch ebay and craigslist ball golf as well. The backpack straps were originally robbed from ball golf bags and can easily be adapted to any disc bag with two rings. I'll keep my eyes out too.

mahtofire14 02-25-2013 06:47 PM

Re: Disc Golf

Rob you can buy backpack straps by themselves and switch them out with bags that have attachments to them fyi

Re: Disc Golf

Great Sunday afternoon club round yesterday. 34 showed up for a "Californication" round at a 22 hole private layout. Big fun!!! I don't know how commonly this is done elsewhere. We've been doing it for four or five years for our Sunday get togethers. Set up "pro" and "am" divisions and everyone plays "cali". Always ends up being our best attended events and just a whole lot of fun.:banger
