Why use a fancy ashtray when a cut PBR can or Quahog shell does the same thing? The ashtray inhances the whole exprierence, just like the lighter.

It's not about what is the most value for your money. Sure $800 buys a lot of cigars, but you have cigars, who cares? Buy those too. It's not "buy this or that". Maybe for him he can buy both? That being said, even very wealthy people do not want to spend more than they have to whether it's a gallon milk or an ST Dupont.

ST Dupont is one of the most highest luxury brands there is. True class that needs no introduction and just holding and using the lighter it is immediate that this is something special. Even if you hate cigars and never heard of ST Dupont, you will be impressed.

:tpd: well said

Adding to that is that 800.00 for a Limited Edition ST Dupont is a steal. You should see what many of the Dupont Habanero Collection is going for.
(IF you can find any)

We raffeled off one of these La Casa del Habanos Duponts at SoCal 2 years ago (someone of this board actually won it with 1 ticket bought!).
Limited to 500 pieces. You would hate to know what these are going for now. :r

I was sitting next to James when he won that. Wow, that is one nice lighter. From holding it I now know why people pay the extra money for one of these (ST Dupont).

For me, I am not coordinated enough to use the lighting mechanism. :r

Even though I use my Blazer the most, my Dupont X-Tend is definitely the best lighter I own. The only one I can trust to light outside in the wind.

Another thing to consider when it comes to something like this. Several of us here own Aristocrat humidors, if it was all about space, I am pretty sure most of us could have spent less than 10% of the price on coolers that hold the same number of cigars.

If I had to do it over again, I would order the same exact Aristocrat without hesitation. :D

A friend of mine has the lacquer one where it 3 dimensional strips in horizontal sections. Really nice looking, but she has the cigarette tip. The ST Dupont’s just beg for the cigar tip!

Not only are the lighters expensive, but they need servicing every 5-6 years at $50 a service.

I have had a few ST Dupont’s in my day. Their belts, shirts, ties, and cuff links are awesome too.

You can find them used quite regularly and if you want to spend $50-100 on service you can own a nice lighter for under $200 with some poking around. Lacquer ones will be more expensive.

I could never imagine spending $800 on a lighter but if you saw what I spent on some of my motorcycle racing and scuba equipment you would probably think I was crazy.

Things are worth whatever people are willing to pay.

I can't imagine spending more than $5 tops on a lighter, man... I lose em like sunglasses

$5 lighters are disposable, an $800 lighter is not. You wouldn't lose an $800 lighter.

I say go for it, but I have no idea (other than what I've read on these posts), if it truly is a good deal or not. Judging by this thread it seems to be though.

There is nothing wrong with wanting the "Finer" things in life as long as you can afford it. Let us know when you get the artwork ;)
