Re: Looking for Memory Foam Mattress Info

I'm reading this with interest. My wife and I are in the market for a new one and have been thinking of memory/latex foam as well.

I used to have a memory foam pillow and didn't like the sensation of my head slapping into soft clay... then melting into it after 5-10 seconds. Once you settled in, it was great... but the foam morph when you first got in or changed positions was a bit of a PITA. I'm nervous about how it would be on a whole mattress vs. just the pillow.

Thanks Scott. Right now I'm just in the info gathering stage. Not in a position to buy tomorrow. Looking for the best bang for the buck in a queen size that will hold up over time to my 235 pounds. :D

3 inch steel plate.:fu

I spoke to my buddy, he said go to a Sleepy's and check out the Temperpedic 10 inch. He says it's a winner. PS, he is a mattress salesman.

We have a 2 inch memory foam topper on top of our mattress. I've noticed it's much easier for me to fall asleep on my back, as opposed to my stomach which I usually sleep on. I'd probably go for something thicker though if it's in the budget.

We got ours as Boscovs, and it includes "aeration holes" for circulation and activated charcoal to destink it. I noticed a smell when I first unpacked it, but I don't notice any odor now.

I will recommend the tempur-pedic. Helps that I sell them but I also sell latex beds and prefer the tempur-pedics.

I got the bed from Costco. Much cheaper than Tempurpedic. Had it for a couple years and still really like it. I think it was the Nova Form or something like that. It was their higher end model but still only cost about $800 bucks or so.

Tried the Tempurpedic and the memory foam feeling just creeped me out. We went with a Sleep Number bed and absolutely love it. Chris' orthopedic surgeon recommended it. We've had it for about 7 years and would highly recommend it. Not cheap, but worth every penny in our book.

Way way out of my price bracket. :(

Do you know the model? Was it Novaform Pure Comfort?

Is it getting "dents" where you sleep after two years?

Check out a model called the advantage. Only a couple hundred more than a regular Mattress. I have been selling them like hotcakes.

I think it was the "Full Fresh Dreams" model, not sure if it's still available. I got it because they said it was their firmest model. It's just me in the bed and I'm not always in the same spot so I haven't noticed any dents.

I had a good friend who tried both the Temperpedic and Select Comfort. Based on his experience, I went with a King Select Comfort. There's a big advantage in that my wife can select her mattress hardness and I can select mine. After 10 years and some back problems, I found that I was selecting a softer setting and my back problems went away.

I do use a temperfoam pillow and like it but, man, is it heavy. I used a Temperfoam 3 laminate cushion in my airplane seats and they were wonderful. I had to take them home in the winter, though, because they got harder than a concrete park bench! I have a two layer Temperfoam seat cushion for my office chair that I take with me when I drive long distances. That is truly a blessing with the hard Honda or the crappy Tacoma seats.

We went with the Select Comfort bed here.

The wife likes to sink into the bed and I like it set all the way up at 100.
