I am in the market for a new one and I was wondering what everyone else had and if they had anything other than S&W that I should be looking at (I'm sure there is). :D

Considering:
S&W
Browning
Ruger
Walther
?

I had a chance to try out a ruger MKIII and a Browning Buckmark when I was looking a cool little .22. The back of the trigger guard on the Ruger killed the back of my trigger finger,(not recoil), more like a ring that fit too tight. I was always banging into it. Not comfortable at all. Reminded me of getting in and out of a Geo Metro, just darned aggravating.

Now the Buckmark, it's ticks like a sewing machine, and has great ergonomics. Love that little gun. Glad I had a chance to try both before I bought.

If money were no object, the Sig is a fine choice. Wish I could say I had more experience with that one.

How about an old Colt Woodsman? If you can find one.

I have considered it but I think I would like to have a stand a lone .22 that I can grab whenever the mood hits me and not have to go through a conversion. The conversion would be nice for the sake of muscle memory though.

A lot has to be considered here
for competition I have a Dan Wesson 7 shot revolver with a 8 inch barrel open sights, that I shoot from the 25 and 50 yard marks for target competition and for fun I have a Ruger Mark III and an old S&W that I bought just cause it feels good in the hand.
Make sure it fits you and a gun is all personnel preference. I have a fiend that I shoot with that bought a Kimber custom comp gun $$$$$ and it looks cool he shot it like sh** and even sent it back to the gun smith because he thought the gun was bad. Wrong it looked cool but his fingers were to long to hold the gun right. Moral of the story he sold the Kimber and now shots a ruger and scores back in the mid to high 90's for competition. A good gun smith or dealer should be able to help you out. good luck on the purchase

;)

Not to mention that .22s have been a popular close range assassination caliber since around WWII and through the cold war, if memory serves.

Just doing a little research.... because I am slightly in the market also.

It appears, from what I found in a few quick searches, the Sig Mosquito is evidently very picky about what you feed it. I think the tolerances may just be a bit too tight on that fine Swiss product. For a trouble free plinker I can fill with walmart ammo on the go, I want something that doesn't annoy me with FTF, FTL, FTE, bent rounds, stovepiping or any other irritating malfunction.

Personally I've had good luck with Ruger.

I have a MK II with a 10" bull barrel that I mounted a Leupold scope to that's scary accurate. I've owned it over twenty years now and have yet to have a problem with it. Ruger stopped making the MK II a few years ago, but there are lots of used ones on the market with low mileage and for good prices.

I've owned a number of .22 wheel guns, and still have a Huntsman, but in my experience nothing has ever compared to the MK II in terms of accuracy.

I've always thought the Rugers were just super cool looking and fun to shoot (especially w/ suppressor :cool2:) I've always shot a buddy's though, so I've never had to clean one.

Was wondering when it was gonna be mentioned!

Both ZYA_LTR and I have Beretta .22's. Although they aren't as popular as others, I know that it takes whatever I feed it. I've had 2 FTF's in 4 years of owning it.

I really wanted a Sig Trailside, but I just didn't have enough money at the time. It would have went along really well with my other Sigs.

A buddy of mine just picked this little gem up. It's a Sig P220 frame with a Factory made .22lr upper. It will also use the .45 ACP upper. Best of both worlds.

The finest .22 target pistol ever made in the USA is the High Standard, especially the Hamden, Connecticut made models.!!
The only USA made pistol to win Gold in the Olympics.

Well I pulled the trigger on Friday and bought a new 22. I got a Browning Buck Mark 5.5 Field. This is one sweet gun and is it ever accurate. I immediately got it out when I got home and ran 8 clips of rounds through it. I especially like that this model comes with a rail on top to mount a red dot scope to.

Thanks to everyone who posted for all your advise.

I will try to get a pic posted here soon.

I have a 5.5 field barrel in getting cut to 4" and threaded for my suppressor. I can't wait to get it back.

The Buckmark is a great gun.
