I sure freaking hope so, I just might switch back to cable if it doesn't.

Hurricanes have a new Captain!

http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news....id=DL|CAR|home

Brind'Amour relinquishes the "C" to Eric Staal... remains as an Alternate.

Seems amicable. Thanks, Rod, for your leadership. :ss

Rod is a good man, Joe. :tu

Hawks get a big 3-1 win to go half way through their 8 game road trip at 3-1. Looks like we may have a starting goalie controversy as well.

Ugh....hate the shootout, Ryan. I wish it would go back to each team getting 1 point for a tie at the end of the 5 minute OT.

That's why I love the playoffs...play until someone scores, even if it takes 8 periods...nothing like playoff hockey. :)

That I can definately agree with. I remember an Icehawks UHL playoff game I was at that ended in the 3rd OT. The worst part was the ref allowed the other team to actually takeout the Icehawks goalie by diving into him and laying down on him so he could not make an attempt at the save.

Awesome fight by Clowe taking the wood to Parros and his P O R N stache. Also see Nabokov clothesline Perry at the end of the video.

You ever think about the farrell pads tom?
http://www.hockeygiant.com/farl650shpdsr.html
You are braver then I if you will wear them in game. I have been hit by wild shots more than once and after trying them on, I was not excited about the idea of having some plug uncork a wild one and get hit. My son actually liked the farrels, but they dont come in his size. So I went with some Itechs for him.

Suprised you are not rocking the old Bauer Pro defenders.

Thanks Mike...I have seen the Farrells, but they don't make them big enough to fit my shoulders and arms.

Had a set of cloth shoulder pads for about 15 years without a hint of plastic or anything else on them. After all those years, they finally fell apart, and I haven't found anything that will fit me that doesn't seem like a football linebacker's pads. :(

It isnt NHL news but Micah scored his first goal in game today. It was not pretty, but he crashed the net like Dad said and when the puck squirted out he was there. 4 years 3 months old and the youngest kid in the league by about a year.

Dad almost cried. Also he didnt act like a clown falling all over the place celebrating like so many of the kids do.

Kesler called out Blackhawks winger Andrew Ladd after Saturday's 5-1 win by the Canucks at GM Place during which Ladd got the best of Kesler in a first period fight.

Kesler was looking for revenge for what he said was a hit from behind from Ladd in last spring's playoffs and wound up taking a punch to the face that opened a cut under his eye. Instead of trading punches with Ladd, Kesler's only response was to wrestle Ladd to the ice.

"He's a coward, he'll always be a coward," Kesler told reporters after the game. "At least he was man enough to hit me when I was looking this time."

Kesler is a joke...almost as big a joke as the hair-pulling Alex Burrows. :2

Right now the B's are out of a playoff spot. with the loss Sunday 5-1 to the Canes Put them in 9th. the only hope is they are only one point out of 6th place with 54 6-8 place all have 55.

bench Thomas and let Tuukka Get his time between the pipes.
Looks like if they keep Playing Like this they will be using all of the picks they have in the upcoming draft. What's the point of giving up the picks for a rental player that you won't even sign for the long hall and if they do they are salary cap strung up. Just my :2 and that's all it's worth.

What I can't believe about the NHL is that there are only 4 teams with losing records.. That's incredible.

Slowly buying up gear to play hockey again. I played for a season when I was younger but my parents took me out of it because of all the other activities I was involved in. Met up with a few friends last week that play in leagues but meet up on Friday's to play pickup. I think I'm going to get back out there soon :)

Great to hear you will hit the ice again Christos! :tu :D

The reason only 4 teams have "losing" records is the shootout era. Instead of the old days when teams played 65 minutes and each got a point if they were tied, now the shootout guarantees a 3 point total, 2 for the winner and 1 for the "loser". I, for one, am not a fan and wish they would go back to the old way...but it sells tickets to the casual fan, so Bettman ain't gonna ditch it. :2

I don't think they need to go back to the old way. Just change the point structure so that playing for the loser point isn't as appealing.

By the way Tom............I think I might need a Chicago Jersey for the playoffs

You know I have thought about it a few times and short of 3 for the pure win in regular and only 2 for the OT or shoot out win and 1 loser point I am not sure.

Also there is the concern that it would put too much distance for teams that win in regular. But isn't that the point...........seems if the game is tied at the 10 minute mark lots of teams go to a 4-1 and just hold on for the OT.

I hate teams going into conservative mode to get to OT and preserve the point. One of the reasons I don't care for the 3 point system.

I have heard many analysts on NHL on XM discuss the 3-2-1 system for points. I must say, I like that idea better than the current system. And regarding the concern about sitance for teams that win in regulation...well, that's the point...maybe they should be rewarded for doing that. :)

I like the 3-2-1 points.. A little adjustment though, why not in the SO only reward the winning team? So do 3pts to regulation win, 2 pts OT/SO win and only 1 point if they lose in OT not the SO..

Go to a %, Like the scoring in Basketball Do not reward the looser.

Worry not Icee... you get the Hurricanes on Saturday. Should be a great opportunity to build stats and give your back-up goalie some work. :D

Chicago's puck possession is just amazing, Joe. At times they seem like the big kids playing "keep away" with the little ones. Hopefully you will see some good hockey from them.

I do worry about the 'Canes game though....play last night Thursday is what should be a high-tempo game against the Sharks, then fly across the country for the last stop on their 8 game road trip. If they beat the Sharks, I fear a let down in Carolina.

What is going on with the Red Wings. Blew 4 games with 3rd period leads in a row, then get blown out by the Wild.

Vancouver starts a 14....yes, 14...game road trip now. They have the most home wins in the NHL, but the NHL's longest road trip in its history will be a real test for them. Hope they crash and burn. ;)

Salary Cap!
The way they were structured they didnt get hit really till this year. I laugh now because I think it was Boomer last year on NHL Home Ice kept saying they were going to suffer this year.

What the fock. Watching the Caps ducks replay right now did anyone see Green go MMA on Ryan? They were kind of in a tussel as they went to the Ice Ryan ends up on top and green goes into a guard position wrapping legs around Ryans waist and holding onto an arm like he was going to go for a triangle choke. I just spit a little milk out watching it. :r

This one deserves a post. Thorburn keeps Brown from going to the ice 2x during the fight. "I aint done with you yet."

Fighting after a good clean hit needs to stop. Love the Homer comments during the fight.

I don't think the salary cap has anything to do with it.. When you can't field a fully healthy team and we can't get 1 of our goalies to play consistently it's kinda hard to win. You can throw all the money you want at players but if they aren't healthy it doesn't make a difference. We still have Holmstrom and Franzen out. With players in and out of the lineup there isn't much chemistry there.

I know injuries killed the Wings earlier in the season, but I think it is more a matter of inconsistent goaltending, and lack of production beyond Henrik, Pavel and Tomas at this point. I hope they pick it up after the break, wouldn't be the same without them in the playoffs.

Don't worry Tom, the Wings have one of the best coaches inthe league. He'll get through to the team and we'll be in the playoffs. I guarentee it!

What kind of hockey stick do you guys recommend? I don't want to break the bank here. Just want a good budget stick..

Sherwood PMP 9950 if you want to stay away from the high priced composite sticks. I just went to compostite myself a few months ago, but used the PMPs until then.

Be bold, Son....predict how far the Wings will go in the playoffs. :)

I'm holding off on a prediction on how far until they get in the playoffs. I'd like to see how they play after the Olympics first.

Thanks for the recommendation on the stick, Tom. I'll have to check them out. Is there such thing as a cheaper composite stick? Or are they worth the investment?
