Honestly best thing for Mets fans is the Yankees winning the series. The Wilpons will want to get those fence sitting NY baseball fans back in their court, so a decent spending spree could plug a few of the holes.

Sox pick up Mark Teahen. Still don't know if Im happy or upset about getting him. His numbers were not great in the 2009 season. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseb...-sox07.article

Honestly, I don't see them going anywhere as long as they keep Minaya as the GM. He sucks. And I wonder how much the Mets would be able to spend anyways as the Wilpons lost a significant amount of money in the Madoff scheme.

The main thing the Mets need to plug some holes is to get a few guys off IR.

Actually I think it was recently reported that they made money during that time and all the reports of them losing millions were false.

Jeff Wilpon came right out and said they lost a a whole lot of money but said they wouldn't let that effect team operations. So I don't think it it was false. How they react this off season should show how true that statement is as i'm sure they want to make some of that money back.

They made money in the scam but will most likely have those gains taken away in court.

I hear Mickey Lolich is looking to make a comeback. :r
(Boy does that give away my age that I remember that ridiculous signing by the Mets)

If not Lolich, I hear "say hey" is interested in a pinch hitter role.:r

Shhhhhh...Minaya , might hear you. While we're at it, why not give Manuel a 5 year extension (since he's done a bang up job...NOT). :r :r

Some Red Sox moves:
Declined option's on Alex Gonzalez & Jason Varitek (he will probably use his $3M player option though).
Picked up option on Victor Martinez and signed Tim Wakefield for 2 more years.

I still can't believe Boston took A-Gon off our hands (Reds). What did they see in him?

A-Gon brings with him a horrible offense and a spotty defense. He can make some stellar plays, but he's very error prone too.

Not sure who the Red Sox are going to be looking at for SS in 2010. That is one of their big holes.

Sox passed on the 6 mill option, if he don't get offers the sox will try to get him back on the cheep?
Gonzo had a lot of big hits for the sox last season batting 284, and played very well.
The sox are getting cheep Henerys hedge fund had to lay off 25% of it's employees:td

OK, explain this one to me: Jerry Hairston Jr. declared his free-agency yesterday. He spent most of this last season languishing on the Reds bench, gets picked up by the Yankees as a utility player, gets a few key hits here and there, and ends up with a WS ring plus the bonus money. Now he exercises an option which is unlikely to be picked up by the champs. WTF is he thinking?

Awesome! We get to give him an official send-off this year. At least he said earlier that if he plays in '10, it will be his final year. An awesome player in his prime!:banger

He was on national television during the WS and thinks that someone is gonna look at that and pick him up for more money.

What option did he use? As far as I could tell he was a free agent at the end of the season. I did not see anything about him having a player or team options for 2010. All he did was file for free agency like every other free agent does.

As expected the Red Sox Jason Varitek excersized his option for 2010 for $3M and will return as the back-up catcher for the Red Sox. My prediction is that the Red Sox will release him by the end of Spring Training.

I freakin hope so, he has been dead weight and an automatic out for the last five years.
I guess you keep hanging around as long as people want to give away millions of dollars?

He's been kept around because he calls a great game. He called Bucholz and Lester's no-hitters. He is slow throwing to catch runners, which is one reason why everyone was stealing on them this year. His bat was carried on the basis of his game, IMO.
