The Angels take a series lead 2-0 over the Red Sox. Score of 4-1 tonight. The Red Sox offense is non-existent scoreing 1 run in 18 innings.

Yeah, I hear that they bought the ump that was 10 feet away from the fair ball that bounced out in left field that Mauer hit as well.

It must feel really great to have the best paid ball players and umps in the whole league.

OH WELL, at least I know that even though the Twins lost, they are actually there to play the game and not try to see how much money they can make.

Not over yet, we'll see what we'll see I guess.

Jeter is really the only yankee I can respect, so you have me there.

Forgot to add... there were as many bad calls at the plate for both sides it wasn't even funny.

How in the hell does he miss that call???? I agree with you on Jeter...he is the only Yankee (IMO) that I would pay to watch.

I also agree that the strike zone was insaine last night.

Just like the Twins bought the ump that was one foot away from Inge? :r

There's a human element to the game, umps miss calls, everything happens super fast, deal with it. It's a part of the game. Maybe if the Twins had produced when they had runners in scoring position, or maybe made less bonehead mistakes in the field it wouldn't have gone to extra innings. But they did, paid for it, and the Yanks played better ball and won.

True, but it makes me feel better blaming the umps. :ss

I suspect the Baseball Gods had more to do with that game last night than the umps did. Mo gives up a weak bleeder that finds a hole, and Twins fans go nuts - a 2-run lead now and only three outs to get. Sic 'em, Nathan - show them what a closer is!

Smack, BOOM, game tied.

I guess Arod's been putting up some numbers so far in the series. I haven't had time to look, but I'm excited to see how he's doing.

In 2 games so far, Alex is hitting .500 and has knocked in 5 of the 11 runs the Yanks have scored. Last night's 2-run homer in the 9th to tie may be that one shining moment fans have been waiting for forever.

Well, I'm disappointed. The Red Sox got swept by the Angels. Was really hoping for a Sox/Yanks ALCS. Papelbon choked hard ;s :mh

I want a Yankees Dodgers World Series. Then I want Torre and the Dodgers to clean up. Don't see that happening though. Yanks look to strong this year.:(

I'm with you on that one. Looks like it's an East Coast battle.

Gonna be a hell of a series.

Werth just homered 9-3

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

If it does end up being the Yankees & Phillies there are a couple things I like about it.

1. The Yankees will be taking on the defending champions. It is always a little nicer to beat the champs.
2. No long airplane flights to deal with.
3. The games will all have the same start time.
4. The Yankees winning in 6 games.

I thought McGwire was just hired to replace Hal MaCrae as the hitting instructor for the Royals??

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Only a short time left for this thread before we move onto 2010. Here are some post WS news.

Bobby Abreu gets a raise from the Angels. 2 years $19M.

The Red Sox traded for outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins for left-handed pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez.

Jermaine Dye informed the White Sox he was going enact his 2010 option for $12M, the White Sox promptly declined the option and gave him the $950,000 buyout.

The Diamondback picked up the 2010 option for Brandon Webb.

J.J. Hardy has been traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Carlos Gomez.

MedicCook 11-06-2009 11:07 PM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Manny made a very smart financial move today when he exercised his $20M option for 2010 with the Dodgers. Hopefully for Joe Torre the pre-roid suspension Manny shows up next year and not the post-suspension Manny.

No surprise here with the Phillies picking up Cliff Lee's option for 2010 at a rather cheap $9M.
