Mets Sweep the Marlins at home!! All is still not lost!! On top of that, Dickey has a shot at 20 wins! What an awesome season!

Still not at the bottom. :wo :wo My idea of a successful season was as long we didn't finish in the cellar...and that still holds true. So, we still have a little hope left.

While I believe Dickey should get a lot of consideration for the NL Cy Young award as he is in almost every pitching category top 3, and still has a slight chance for the pitching Triple Crown. I truly believe he will not get the votes because he plays on a losing team, which is total BS...but it is what it is. Just as he was shunned at the All Star game...he should have started that game, PERIOD!!

Dickey should have started the All Star game IMO. Also, not sure he would win Cy even if the Mets were winning, just my thought.

I think you're totally off base here!
If this was a race for the MVP, you might have a point.
The Cy Young, especially of late, usually goes to the best pitcher in the league, regardless of the teams record.
In 2010, King Felix won the AL Cy with a W-L record of 13-12, playing for a Seattle team that went 61-101.
Dickey may lose the Cy Young, but it won't be because he plays for the Mets.
Unlike Verlander last year, he has legitimate competition for the award.

With Cueto, Gonzalez, Kershaw as the primary candidates (all on playoff bound teams) Dickey will not evercome these three (wait til the votes are released). While Chapman, and Kimbrell have been thrown into the conversation, I don't feel the Cy Young should go to the top reliever...they already have an award the Rolaids Relief Man Award. But Chapman and Kimbrell will gather voters for the CY Young...and lots of them according to sports reporters.

I'm with Dom here. Honestly its between Gio Gonzalez and Dickey. They both have been great all year, I think if Dickey gets to 20 wins he has a very good chance of winning it. 3 complete game shutouts, tons of strikeouts, better era, but with Gonzalez having 20 already, I think Dickey has to get to 20 in order to win the award.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

The Mets hit back-to-back homers for the first time this season on Tuesday, when Justin Turner and David Wright took Rodriguez deep in the first inning. It marked Wright's sixth 20-homer season, tying Mike Piazza for second most all time in Mets history. Darryl Strawberry holds the record with eight. Wright also tied Ed Kranepool for most hits in franchise history at 1,418 later in the game.

In half the time it took Kranepool to do it as well. :tu :tu

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

I hope the Mets make the correct decision and offer Wright a really nice contract.

kelmac07 09-26-2012 07:30 PM

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

Wright passes Kranepool as Mets' all-time hits king.

The record-setting knock came in the third inning Wednesday, when Wright dribbled an infield single down the third-base line for his 1,419th career hit. With that, he snapped a tie with Kranepool to become the franchise's all-time hits leader in his ninth big league season. The Mets honored him with a brief video tribute on the center-field video board, as the Citi Field crowd saluted him with a standing ovation.

An inning later, he added hit No. 1,420 to his career total with another single in the fourth.

Congrats David!! :tu :tu

Mets beat the Pirates 6-5 (the bullpen tried to blow it in the 9th)! Wright hits HR number 21 and Dickey gets his 20th win!!

Being six games up on the Marlins with only five games left...we are left with at least a
4th place finish. Dickey won 20 and SHOULD be in contention for the NL Cy Young.

Jeez, I don't want Gonzalez to win, that's why I said I hate to say it. I think Dickey has had a great year and is deserving. I just think the Nats are this year's NL Darlings and may get the vote. Sorry!!

Nothing personal Justin. I'm with you in believing that Gio is gonna get the majority of the votes because he plays on a winner, and Dickey plays on the Mets with a losing record (again). :bh :bh

I absolutely disagree. The Cy has gone to plenty of guys on bad teams, unlike the MVP which typically goes to a guy on a playoff bound team. I think now that he capped off 20 wins, there is no question Dickey is the favorite for the CY.

Re: New York Mets 2012 Banter

NEW YORK -- In perhaps a hint at further hardware to come, Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey took home his first offseason award Monday evening when the MLB Players Association revealed its annual Players Choice Awards.

Dickey took home Outstanding Pitcher honors in the National League, as voted by his peers. It's a promising sign for Dickey leading up to the Nov. 14 announcement of the NL Cy Young Award, considering that four of the NL's last five Outstanding Pitchers went on to win the Cy.

Dickey submitted his best season ever in 2012, going 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA and 230 strikeouts. At age 37, he led the NL in innings, strikeouts, shutouts and complete games, ranking second in both ERA and wins. Following his final start of the season, Dickey revealed that he had been pitching since April with a torn abdominal muscle, which he had surgically repaired last month.

To become the NL's Outstanding Pitcher, Dickey beat out fellow finalists Gio Gonzalez of the Nationals and Johnny Cueto of the Reds, both of whom figure to receive significant Cy Young support. The Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw and the Braves' Craig Kimbrel also should factor into the Cy Young vote, which will be revealed next Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET on MLB Network.

But the odds-on Cy Young favorite for months has been Dickey, whose story includes a decadelong slog through the Minors, a rebirth with the Mets as a knuckleballer in 2010, a book deal and starring role in a documentary, a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, a 20-win season and now this: the first of what certainly will be many awards to come.

"The award would obviously be nice," Dickey said of the Cy in September. "That would be silly to say that it wouldn't be fantastic. But at the same time, you've got to be able to lay your head on your pillow, whether you've won it or not, and know that you've done your best. And I can do that.

"A 20-win season is also very difficult to get, and thankfully we've been able to do that. So at the very least, to be able to say that you were a 20-game winner for the New York Mets? That's pretty significant for me."

Adding to his offseason intrigue, Dickey's future with the Mets is currently in flux, with the two sides attempting to negotiate a long-term contract extension -- and bracing for the potential of a blockbuster trade if they cannot reach an agreement. But if either party needed reminder of the knuckleballer's greatness in 2012, the Players Choice Awards on Monday provided it.

reports are now, Bay will receive the full $21 million he is owed, but he has agreed to defer some of the money.
No details yet on how much he has deferred, or for how long.
I hope this is another Bonillia type deal, that will have the Mets paying Jason Bay until he's 90 years old. :D
